Past Present JERSEY
Into
Dating back over 250,000 years, Jersey has an eclectic and extensive selection of historical landmarks waiting to be discovered. From a Neolithic passage grave older than Egypt’s pyramids, to Medieval fortresses and the numerous imposing concrete bunkers that have peppered the coastline since the German occupation, tangible reminders of the human history of Jersey can be found at every turn. The Jersey War Tunnels, the island’s most visited attraction, is well worth a morning of any visitor’s time. It tells the complete story of life under enemy occupation, from the horror of life as island captives, to heartwarming tales of triumph over adversity. World War II was far from the first time that Jersey suffered invasion by enemy forces, and for centuries the island was at the centre of a tug of war for ownership between England and Normandy. Towering castles, iconic round towers and 18th century military barracks carry echoes of an island accustomed to defending itself, and many are available to be explored by today’s much more welcome visitors.

JERSEY
Jersey Heritage Pass Make the most of your time and money with a Jersey Heritage Pass. Available to purchase at all Jersey Heritage sites, each pass gives unlimited access to any 4 of Jersey Heritage’s fascinating visitor sites and is valid for 7 days. Take the amphibious ferry or a low tide stroll to Elizabeth Castle and walk in the footsteps of Sir Walter Raleigh, before learning the brutal story of Saint Helier, for whom the island’s capital is named. One of the finest examples of a medieval castle, Mont Orgueil has towered over the harbour of Gorey for over 800 years. Climb to the top and be rewarded with spectacular views of Jersey’s east coast. Journey through centuries of rural life at Hamptonne Country Life Museum, from the challenges of occupation farming, to the simple 15th century way of life. Stroll through gardens & meet the friendly resident animals. Positioned in the heart of St. Helier, Jersey Museum & Art Gallery paints a picture of island life from the very earliest settlers right through until to the modern day. Highlights include the Victorian merchant’s house. Jersey is shaped by the sea, and The Maritime Museum on New North Quay tells the story of the island’s seafaring past, from tidal ranges and fishing fleets to swashbuckling stories of pirates. Boasting a passage grave among the oldest manmade structures in the world, along with a medieval chapel and German bunker, La Hougue Bie is a must visit to experience 6000 years of history in one place. jerseyheritage.org La Hougue Bie

of
Jersey Life
Indulge in the very best of island produce, the perfect accompaniment for a tasty island break
BLACK BUTTER
ICE CREAM
JERSEY ROYALS
Butter in name but entirely dairy free, Black Butter has been made in Jersey since medieval times. An age-old blend of apples, lemon, spices, liquorice and lashings of Jersey cider, this tasty preserve is as versatile as it is unique and can be paired with a plethora of meals, both sweet and savoury.
Honey coloured and doe-eyed Jersey cows are famous the world over for their rich and creamy milk, and this is never so apparent as in real Jersey ice-cream, produced locally by Jersey Dairy and available widely across the island. Best enjoyed in a sunny spot with sand between your toes.
A uniquely nutty new potato, with a firm texture that makes it ideal for salads; make sure you grab a bag of them in the only place they’re grown! The Jersey Royal Potato is a native treasure with an unrivalled salty taste and quintessentially British heritage.
FANCY A TIPPLE?
Q&A
Jon Hackett from Me and the Farmer
STINKY BAY IPA, JERSEY Named after a small bay that marks the very northwest tip of Jersey and created by two local boys, this was the first independent brewery in Jersey and their biscuity malt with a citrus finish can be found island-wide. Enjoy beach-side.
What’s the best part of the job? What started out as a hobby became a full time job when I ‘retired’ from the mortgage and investments world more than a decade ago. It doesn’t matter how long I’ve been doing it, I still love supplying our products around the Island and hearing the wonderful positive feedback we get.
Where can we find you?
Brooklands Farm is tucked away from sight, however, the tell-tale signs of farm life are clearly visible from the main road on La Route Des Genets, St Brelades, where pigs and piglets, cattle, poultry, ducks and geese contentedly graze and forage on our land. You can also find our shop here where you can buy our produce directly from us. 12
Tell us an interesting pig related fact?
It might be hard to imagine but the Mummy pigs sing to their babies and all pigs love having their bellies rubbed.
What’s your favourite product to bring to a picnic?
You can’t beat one of our homemade Brooklands Farm pork pies and a scotch egg, both made to the traditional method by us. We make a full range of pasties, pies and sausage rolls too, so we could easily stock your picnic baskets.
JERSEY
LOBSTER
JERSEY WONDERS
OYSTERS
A true ‘must-taste’ whilst on Jersey. This delicate and delicious shell fish is best enjoyed simply, with a baguette and some delicious Jersey butter. Caught fresh most days, almost every restaurant worth their salt will have a wonderful Lobster dish on their menu for you to try!
Traditionally cooked on an outgoing tide, Jersey Wonders are a sweet doughy treat made from flour, sugar, Jersey butter and eggs. Once made exclusively at Easter, they’re too good to be restricted to just once a year and can be purchased from local bakeries and honesty boxes.
With a daily influx of some of the freshest seawater in Europe, the Royal Bay of Grouville plays host to Jersey’s Oyster farms. There are plenty of seafront restaurants and local fisheries for all you oyster lovers to relish the distinctive flavour of the freshest Jersey Oyster!
INDICA RUM Created by the Channel Islands Liquor Co, Indica Rum arrived on the scene in 2019 and promptly swept up at the World Rum Awards. A blend of 5 rums, distilled with locally grown flowers of the Indica cannabis plant, the complex yet smooth flavour sets the bar for rum higher than it’s ever been. Best enjoyed simply over ice.
Eat Like a Local Our Managing Director Robert loves The Oyster Box, St. Brelade
Why the Oyster Box?
The view across St. Brelades Bay on a summer’s day is simply unbeatable.
What is your favourite dish? It has to be fresh local shellfish and a chilled glass of white wine.
Who is your Dream Dinner Guest?
The Hungry Man, Rozel is where Reservations Administrator Annie stops for lunch What’s so special?
The colourful kiosk right on the harbourside cheers up even the greyest day.
Tell us your regular order. Hungry Man burgers are legendary.
And to wash it down?
A big mug of hot chocolate with all the trimmings.
My wife and children, of course.

GUERNSEY
St Peter Port from Mignot Plateau
The Bailiwick of Guernsey is a beautiful archipelago of five islands, situated in the English Channel but within sight of the Normandy coast and offering fresh air, wide open spaces and a relaxing atmosphere. The Bailiwick is made up of Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, Herm and Lihou. Guernsey is the largest island and the most popular base for holidaymakers, offering a range of accommodation from self-catering cottages and seaside B&Bs to elegant boutique hotels, along with uncrowded beaches, tranquil countryside and spectacular cliff path walks.
34
Quintessentially British but with a distinctly French twist, Guernsey’s capital St. Peter Port is a charming seafront town where bunting flutters above cobbled shopping streets and music fills the air. Home to unique shops as well as tempting cafes and stylish restaurants, St. Peter Port is the starting point for many island-hopping adventures. Sark and Herm can both be reached via regular boat services departing St. Peter Port harbour and each has its own unique character and charm. Book a hotel or campsite and stay for the night, visit for a day, or if time is tight book a speedboat trip and explore the beautiful coastline of these islands from the water.
Alderney is the second largest island in the Bailiwick and accessible by air or seasonal ferry from Guernsey. For a small island, Alderney packs in plenty to see and do; visit for the day or stay for a night or two and explore all there is to offer. Last but certainly not least, Lihou island is situated off the west coast of Guernsey and is accessible on foot at low tide. A tranquil haven that is packed with marine wildlife, a visit here is not to be missed.

GUERNSEY
The Islands of Guernsey
History & Heritage Guernsey has been inhabited since pre-recorded history, but didn’t become the islands we recognise today until around 6000BC when rising sea levels created the English Channel. This was the point when Neolithic farmers began to settle along the coastline, building dolmens and menhirs that still stand today, and sowing the seeds of what would become a rich tapestry of human history, waiting to be explored.
THE VICTORIAN SHOP & PARLOUR
CASTLE CORNET Castle Cornet has stood guard over the harbour mouth in St. Peter Port for over 800 years. Built to protect the island and its people from invasion, the castle is now home to five museums, four period gardens and the refectory. Time your visit to include the daily guided tour at 10:30am and firing of the noon-day gun by scarlet clad gunners. 38
Cross the threshold of No. 26 Cornet Street and step back in time. The Victorian Shop and Parlour is owned by the National Trust of Guernsey and is an exquisitely restored 18th century property where visitors can surround themselves in nostalgia, and perhaps even pick up an ounce of sugar mice or lemon sherbets from the traditional sweet counter.
LA VARDE PASSAGE GRAVE Located on Lancresse Common, La Varde is the largest and most impressive megalithic structure surviving on Guernsey, measuring 18 metres in diameter and with a capstone weighing over ten tons. Discovered in 1811, it is thought to date back to 4000BC and initial exploration revealed human bones, stone tools and complete pots.

ROMAN FORT
SEIGNEURIE GARDENS
Originally built in the 4th century to defend the anchorage in Longis Bay and nearby Roman settlement, the Nunnery Heritage Site is the best preserved small Roman fort in Britain, and has since provided a base for Tudor, British and German soldiers. A recent make over has added story boards and information and the site is open to visitors.
The Seigneur of Sark is a hereditary post that has been occupied since 1560 when Jersey’s Hellier de Carteret cultivated what had been a deserted island. Since the 17th century the Seigneur and his family have occupied a picturesque granite manor house, which is now surrounded by spectacular landscaped gardens, open year-round for the public to explore.

GERMAN UNDERGROUND HOSPITAL The largest structural reminder of German occupation in the Channel Islands, the Underground Hospital is made up of a maze of tunnels and rooms covering almost 7000 square metres, and was entirely hewn from rock by forced workers. Intended for use as a military hospital, it now serves as a stark reminder of the bleakest time in Guernsey’s history.

TOMATOES
GUERNSEY GÂCHE
GUERNSEY DAIRY
Once Guernsey’s largest export with half a billion tomatoes per year making their way to English shores in the late 1960s, the ‘Guernsey Tom’ was a recognisable brand name in many homes. Now more likely to be found on local plates, Guernsey still produces plump and juicy tomatoes thanks to the mild climate.
Guernsey Gâche (pronounced ‘Gosh’) is a traditional fruit loaf and an island delicacy. Made with sultanas, raisins and mixed peel, it is most often served sliced and toasted, with a generous serving of rich Guernsey butter. No visitor to Guernsey should miss trying a slice or two with a pot of tea.
Famous for the Guernsey cow breed which produces some of the best milk in the world; high in fat and rich in Omega 3 and calcium. Creamy delights are never far away for those favouring sweet or savoury from artisan cheeses to luscious ice-creams and, of course, cream teas.
FANCY A TIPPLE?
Q&A
With Julia from Hudge local fudge producer
WHEADONS GIN, GUERNSEY Brainchild of Luke Wheadon, whose family has been involved in the production of alcohol on Guernsey for over a hundred years, this Gin comes in several varieties, each complimenting the flavours that it will sit with in a G&T, martini or negroni. Serve with sun!
Where does the name ‘Hudge’ come from?
Hudge started life being sold from a hedge veg box... so fudge, sold in the hedge... obviously meant Hudge! Hedge veg is a wonderful Channel Islands tradition that was originally for growers to sell spare fruit, veg and flowers on the principle of an honesty box.
Where is your favourite beach / place to have a picnic?
Petit Bôt on the south coast... just down the road from Hudge HQ. 40
What makes Guernsey fudge so special?
The Guernsey dairy produces amazing whole milk and butter which are two of the main ingredients of fudge. Many of the flavour ingredients are also sourced locally, such as the sea-salt, coffee, rum, beer and even sloe gin that we foraged from the south cliffs of Guernsey 9 years ago!
Tell us something interesting we didn’t know about fudge? It needs to be heated to exactly 115°C.
GUERNSEY
BEAN JAR
ORMERS
HEDGE VEG
Gracing Guernsey dinner tables for centuries, Bean Jar is a hearty and warming stew often made with pork on the bone, onion, carrot and of course plenty of beans. Many Guernsey families have their own secret recipe, but one thing they all have in common is that simplicity is key.
Not to everyone’s taste, but considered a delicacy in Guernsey, the Ormer is a native shellfish, similar to a sea snail but a little smaller in size. Declining numbers mean that harvesting is now strictly limited to just 24 days a year between January and April.
Local growers produce a wide range of fruit, vegetables and herbs that arrive fresh to our restaurants. Keep an eye out for ‘hedge veg’ while exploring the Island, where local farmers leave honesty boxes on side of the roads with the freshest organic produce for sale.
ROCQUETTES CIDER Back in 1998, the Meller family set out to re-establish a long Guernsey tradition of cider making. To date they have planted 5000 trees around their family home in the heart of Fauxquets Valley and now lovingly produce a crisp and traditional apple cider that is best enjoyed on a sunny afternoon.
Eat Like a Local Octopus, St. Peter Port is Marketing Co-Ordinator Gina’s favourite haunt What’s so special?
The stunning nautical interior design reminds me of being on holiday.
Tell us your regular order.
The BBQ belly pork ramen, followed by the selection of 5 baby sweets as it’s too hard to pick just one!
Who is your dream dinner guest?
Aside from friends & family, I’d love to dine with funny man Alan Carr.
Our Marketing Manager Becky never misses a visit to The Mermaid Tavern, Herm Why the Mermaid?
I have many happy memories of sunny afternoons spent here with friends.
What is your favourite dish? Traditional fish & chips, they’re the best in the Channel Islands.
And to wash it down?
A crisp cold pint of Rocquettes Cider. 41

HERM
1 holiday, 5 islands: become the skipper of your own destiny, spoilt for choice on your island hopping adventure! Each of the islands of Guernsey offers something strikingly different. All can be reached from Guernsey in an easy day trip or, on the larger islands, linger longer on an island retreat for a couple of days.
SARK 6 miles east of Guernsey lies Sark, the smallest of the four main Channel Islands. With no cars on the island - except tractors - and a residential population of a mere 600, it is easy to see how the island has earned its reputation as a ‘step back in time’. Explore this pretty island by bike or horse and trap and then by night see the skies come alive as the unpolluted darkness of no cars or street lights reveals millions of bright stars visible with the naked eye.

LIHOU A quarter of a mile off the west coast of Guernsey, Lihou island is a small haven of peace and beauty, only accessible by foot for two weeks a month when the causeway is uncovered. Lihou Island hosts many nesting birds and a rich marine life can be observed on its shores as the tide goes down. Oyster Catchers, Ringed Plovers and Peregrine Falcons are amongst the species you will spot. Lihou remains one of the most extraordinary locations to visit and picnic!
AUGUST
Alderney Week
ALDERNEY Alderney is the third largest Channel Island only a small distance from Guernsey, and at just 3.5 by 1.5 miles, you’ll never be far away from the allure of its pretty town centre, the serenity of its extensive bays or the depth of its history. Small and perfectly formed, Alderney’s capital, St. Anne, is the heart of an island which is home to less than 2,000 inhabitants. With no long queues, you can walk through peaceful countryside, trek along dramatic coastlines and explore the quaint high street, all at your own pace.
HERM Located 3 miles from Guernsey, the only way to arrive in Herm Island is by boat – either aboard a private yacht or on the passenger ferry. Herm Island has no cars, no crowds and definitely no stress. It is ideal for families and anyone else wanting to get away from it all. Enjoy beautiful, unspoilt beaches, sample island life, explore the natural coastline and take in spectacular views of neighbouring islands and the French coast. There’s no place like Herm.

Temperatures from May to September average 21°C (70°F) and can be as high as 25°C (77°F) or more.

Jersey and the UK have a Reciprocal Health Agreement which means that if you qualify for healthcare in the UK and require emergency treatment whilst in Jersey you will not have to pay certain healthcare charges. C. I. Travel Group Booking Conditions ABTA No. V0300
Your contract is with C. I. TRAVEL GROUP LTD (hereinafter known as C. I. Travel Group), trading as C. I. Travel, jerseytravel.com, guernseytravel.com, Airways Holidays, Travtel, FlyDirect and Bontour, (registered in Jersey no. 23569), a member of ABTA. 1. Your holiday contract When you make a booking you guarantee that you have the authority to accept and do accept on behalf of your party the terms of these booking conditions. A contract will exist as soon as we issue our confirmation invoice or the booking is confirmed on our website. This contract is made on the terms of these booking conditions, which are governed by English Law, and the jurisdiction of the English Courts. You may however, choose the law and jurisdiction of Scotland or Northern Ireland if you live there and wish to do so. If it has not been possible for you to have seen these terms and conditions, or cancellation charges were not made known to you at the time of booking and you are not happy to proceed, please return all documentation to us within seven days. Your booking will be cancelled and your monies will be returned in full, provided you have not commenced your travel. This option does not apply if your booking was made within 10 weeks of travel or where certain airlines and accommodation providers require full payment at the time of booking. 2. Your financial protection a) Flight-only & flight-inclusive holidays booked and departing from the United Kingdom and Isle of Man We provide full financial protection for our package holidays. For flight-based holidays this is through our Air Travel Organiser’s Licence number 1965 issued by the CAA, Gatwick Airport South, West Sussex RH6 0YR (telephone 0333 103 6350). In the unlikely event of our insolvency, the CAA will ensure that you are not stranded abroad and will arrange to refund any money you have paid to us for an advance booking. For further information visit the ATOL website at www.atol.org.uk. When you buy a package holiday that doesn’t include a flight, protection is provided by way of a bond held by ABTA with Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Plc and Travel & General Insurance Company Plc. When you book an ATOL protected flight or flight inclusive holiday from us you will receive an ATOL Certificate. This lists the flight, accommodation, car hire and/or other services that are financially protected, where you can get information on what this means for you and who to contact if things go wrong. We, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL Certificate, will provide you with the services listed on the ATOL Certificate (or a suitable alternative). In some cases, where neither we nor the supplier are able to do so for reasons of insolvency, an alternative ATOL holder may provide you with the services you have bought or a suitable alternative (at no extra cost to you). You agree to accept that in those circumstances the alternative ATOL holder will perform those obligations and you agree to pay any money outstanding to be paid by you under your contract to that alternative ATOL holder. However, you also agree that in some cases it will not be possible to appoint an alternative ATOL holder, in which case you will be entitled to make a claim under the ATOL scheme (or your credit card issuer where applicable). If we, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL certificate, are unable to provide the services listed (or a suitable alternative, through an alternative ATOL holder or otherwise) for reasons of insolvency, the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust may make a payment to (or confer a benefit on) you under the ATOL scheme. You agree that in return for such a payment or benefit you assign absolutely to those Trustees any claims which you have or may have arising out of or relating to the non-provision of the services, including any claim against us, the travel agent (or your credit card issuer where applicable). You also agree that any such claims may be re-assigned to another body, if that other body has paid sums you have claimed under the ATOL scheme. b) Holidays and flights booked and departing from The Channel Islands, accommodation-only and ferry-inclusive holidays booked and departing from the United Kingdom. We provide full financial protection for our package holidays, by way of a bond held by ABTA with Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Plc and Travel & General Insurance Company Plc. You agree to accept that in the event of our insolvency ABTA may arrange for the services you have bought to continue, or for a suitable alternative to be provided at the same cost as your original booking. You also agree to accept that in circumstances where the travel service supplier provides the services you have bought, you agree to pay any outstanding sum under your contract with us to that alternative travel service provider. However, you also agree that in some cases the services will not be provided, in which case you will be entitled to make a claim under ABTA’s Scheme of Protection (or your payment card issuer where applicable) for a refund of the monies you have paid. For your financial protection, £2.50 per person (excluding infants) is added to your confirmation whether travelling by air or sea. Please note this charge is subject to alteration and any increase will be advised at the time of booking. 3. ABTA We are a member of ABTA, membership number V0300. We are obliged to maintain a high standard of service to you by ABTA’s Code of Conduct. We can also offer you ABTA’s scheme for the resolution of disputes which is approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute. If we can’t resolve your complaint, go to www.abta.com to use ABTA’s simple procedure. Further information on the Code and ABTA’s assistance in resolving disputes can be found on abta.com. 4. Your holiday price a) We reserve the right to increase or decrease published prices of any holiday. You will be advised of the current price of the holiday that you wish to book before your contract is confirmed. Where verbal quotations have been made to you, it is possible for errors to occur. Where quotations made are subsequently found to be incorrect, we reserve the right to amend the price quoted even if the confirmation invoice has been issued. If this occurs, you will have the right to cancel the holiday and receive a full refund of monies paid. b) When you make a booking you must pay a deposit, the amount of which will be advised at the time of booking. The balance of the price of your travel arrangements must be paid at least 8 weeks before your departure date. If you book less than 8 weeks from departure you must pay the total cost of your holiday on booking. All payments due can be made by credit

or debit card or by cheque made payable to C. I. Travel Group. There is no charge for paying by debit card, credit card or cheque. Please note that these charges may be amended at any time without notice. If the balance is not paid in time, we shall cancel your travel arrangements and retain your deposit. In the event of a cheque not being honoured by the bank on which it is drawn we will make a charge of £50 to cover the bank charges and our administration costs. Where accommodation, travel or other arrangements are purchased from suppliers in currencies other than £ sterling, these are priced at the exchange rate applicable at the time of publication and/or quotation. c) Changes in transportation and accommodation costs, including the cost of fuel, dues, taxes or fees chargeable for services such as landing taxes or embarkation or disembarkation fees at ports and airports and exchange rates mean that the price of your holiday arrangements may change after you have booked. However, there will be no change within 20 days of your departure. We will absorb and you will not be charged for any increase equivalent to 2% of the price of your holiday arrangements which excludes any amendment charges. You will be charged the amount over and above that, plus an administration charge of £1 per person together with an amount to cover agents’ commission. If this means you have to pay an increase of more than 8% of the price of your holiday arrangements, you will have the option of accepting a change to another holiday if we are able to offer one, (if this is of equivalent or higher quality you will have to pay more but if it is of lower quality you will be refunded the difference in price), or cancelling and receiving a full refund of all monies paid, except for any amendment charges. (Note: a full refund will not apply in respect of airline tickets that require full payment at the time of booking.) Should you decide to cancel for this reason, you must exercise your right to do so within 14 days from the issue date printed on your final invoice. Should the price of your holiday go down due to the changes mentioned above, by more than 2% of your holiday cost, then any refund due will be paid to you. However, please note that travel arrangements are not always purchased in local currency and some apparent changes have no impact on the price of your travel due to contractual and other protection in place. d) If you book through a travel agent, all monies you pay to the agent are held by him on behalf and for the benefit of the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust at all times. This is subject to the agent’s obligation to pay it to us for as long as we do not fail. If we fail, any money held at the time by the agent, or subsequently accepted from you by him, is and continues to be held on behalf of and for the benefit of the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust without any obligation to pay that money to us. 5. If you change your booking If, after your confirmation invoice has been issued, you wish to change your travel arrangements in any way, for example your chosen departure date or accommodation, we will do our utmost to make these changes but it may not always be possible. Any request for changes to be made must be in writing from the person who made the booking or your travel agent. You will be asked to pay an administration charge of £30 per person and any further cost we incur in making this alteration. If all names change on a booking, then cancellation charges will apply. You should be aware that these costs could increase the closer to departure date that changes are made and you should contact us as soon as possible. A change made within 6 weeks of departure and affecting the UK airport/port, date or holiday duration or the number of passengers will result in the cancellation of the original booking and may be subject to the scale of charges described in clause 7. Note: Different cancellation terms, up to 100%, may apply for bookings that include certain accommodation and travel arrangements. These terms will be advised at the time of booking. 6. If you cancel your holiday You, or any member of your party, may cancel your travel arrangements at any time. Written notification from the person who made the booking or your travel agent on your behalf must be received at our offices. Since we incur costs in cancelling your travel arrangements, you will have to pay the applicable cancellation charges up to the maximum shown in clause 7. Note: No refund will be due in respect of airline tickets (electronic or paper) that either require full payment at the time of booking or have been issued (normally about six weeks from departure). 7. If we change or cancel your holiday It is unlikely that we will have to make any changes to your holiday arrangements, but we do plan the arrangements many months in advance. Occasionally, we may have to make changes and we reserve the right to do so at any time. Most of these changes will be minor and we will advise you of them at the earliest possible date. We also reserve the right in any circumstances to cancel your travel arrangements. For example, if the minimum number of clients required for a particular travel arrangement is not reached, we may have to cancel it. (We will advise you of minimum number together with the time limit for us to tell you if the package is cancelled, at the time of booking). However, we will not cancel your travel arrangements less than 8 weeks before your departure date, except for reasons of of unavoidable or extraordinary circumstances, or failure by you to pay the final balance. If we are unable to provide the booked travel arrangements, you can either have a refund of all monies paid or accept an offer of alternative travel arrangements of comparable standard from us, if available (we will refund any price difference if the alternative is of a lower value). If it is necessary to cancel your travel arrangements, we will pay you compensation as set out in this clause (excluding infants). In accordance with EU regulations 2111/2005 we are required to advise you of the actual carrier operating your flight. This will be shown on your booking confirmation. Any changes to the actual airline after you have received your ticket information will be notified to you as soon as possible and in all cases at check-in or at the boarding gate. Such a change is deemed to be a minor change. Other examples of minor changes include alteration of your outward/ return flights/sea crossing by less than 12 hours, changes to carrier or aircraft type, change of accommodation to another of the same standard. If we are constrained by circumstances beyond our control, to alter significantly any of the main characteristics that make up your holiday, we will inform you or your travel agent as soon as reasonably possible if there is time before your departure. You will have the choice of either accepting the change of arrangements, accepting an offer of alternative travel arrangements of comparable standard from us if available (we will refund any price difference if the alternative is of a lower value), or cancelling your booked holiday and receiving a full refund of all monies paid. In some cases, except where the major change or cancellation arises due to unavoidable
and extraordinary circumstances, we will pay compensation as detailed below (excluding infants):
IF WE MAKE A MAJOR CHANGE TO YOUR HOLIDAY Period before departure within which notice of cancellation or major change is received by us or notified to you
which limit the amount of compensation that you can claim for death, injury, delay to passengers and loss, damage, and delay to luggage. We are to be regarded as having all benefit of any limitation of compensation contained in these or any conventions.

You can ask for copies of the transport companies’ contractual terms, or the international conventions, from our head office at C. I. Travel Group, Heron House, Jersey Airport, Jersey, JE1 1BW. Telephone: 01534 496600. Under EU law (Regulation 261/2004) you have rights in some circumstances to refunds and/or compensation from your airline in cases of denied boarding, cancellation or delay to flights. Full details of these rights will be publicised at EU airports and will also be available from airlines. However reimbursement in such cases will not automatically entitle you to a refund of your holiday cost from us. Your right to a refund and/or compensation from us is set out in clause 6. If any payments to you are due from us, any payment made to you by the airline will be deducted from this amount. If it is impossible to ensure your return as scheduled due to unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances, we will bear the cost of necessary accommodation, if possible of equivalent category, for a maximum of three nights. The limit doesn’t apply to persons with reduced mobility and any person accompanying them, pregnant women and unaccompanied minors, or persons in need of specific medical assistance, provided that you notified us of these needs at least 48 hours before the start of your holiday.

The compensation that we offer does not exclude you from claiming more if you are entitled to do so. Unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances mean a situation beyond our control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken. These include as examples: war, riot, industrial dispute, terrorist activity and its consequences, natural or nuclear disaster, fire, adverse weather conditions, epidemics and pandemic, and unavoidable technical problems with transport. 8. Travel Delays It is our policy that once you have checked in with your airline or ferry operator, that you are their responsibility. In common with many coastal resorts, our destinations occasionally suffer from fog and sea mists and ferry crossings can be affected by rough seas. Adverse weather conditions can result in delays and diversions and even cancellation of some services. Transport may also be cancelled due to technical problems or unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances. Except where this leads to a significant alteration to contracted services, we will not be liable for any loss or expense incurred, or obliged to refund any payment for unused accommodation or services at your destination. Should your travel be delayed or cancelled, we recommend that you have sufficient funds to obtain additional meals and accommodation. These costs may be covered by travel insurance, which is strongly recommended. 9. Accommodation Descriptions C. I. Travel Group cannot accept responsibility for representations as to the accommodation, services or food provided with the accommodation which have been made to you directly by the hotel and not by or through ourselves. In the case of half-board bookings we regret we are unable to compensate you for any meals missed due to late arrival at the hotel for any reason. 10. Disabled Passengers We do everything we can to provide the highest level of service to all our customers. If wheelchairs are required at the airport please advise us well in advance (at least 7 days). Please note we cannot arrange transfers for passengers who need to remain in their wheelchairs. We would point out that there is a possibility that airlines may charge for handling wheelchairs and aircraft lift ons/offs and we must therefore reserve the right to pass on such charges should they arise. 11. If you have a complaint If you have a problem during your holiday, please inform the relevant supplier (e.g. your hotelier) and our representative or our local office without undue delay who will endeavour to put things right. If your complaint is not resolved locally, please follow this up within 28 days of your return home by writing to our Customer Services Department at the address shown on your confirmation giving your booking reference and all other relevant information. Please keep your letter concise and to the point. This will assist us to quickly identify your concerns and speed up our response to you. It is strongly recommended that you communicate any complaint to the supplier of the services in question as well as our representative or local office without delay whilst in resort. If you fail to follow this simple procedure we will have been deprived of the opportunity to investigate and rectify your complaint whilst you were in resort and this may affect your rights under this contract. Please also see clause 3 above on ABTA. 12. Our liability to you If the contract we have with you is not performed or is improperly performed by us or our suppliers we will pay you appropriate compensation if this has affected the enjoyment of your holiday arrangements. However we will not be liable where any failure in the performance of the contract is due to: you; or a third party unconnected with the provision of the holiday arrangements and where the failure is unforeseeable or unavoidable; or unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all due care had been exercised; or an event which we or our suppliers, even with all due care, could not foresee or forestall. Our liability, except in cases involving death, injury or illness, shall be limited to a maximum of 2 times the cost of your holiday arrangements. Our liability will also be limited in accordance with and/or in an identical manner to (a) The contractual terms of the companies that provide the transportation for your travel arrangements. These terms are incorporated into this contract; and (b) Any relevant international convention, for example the Montreal Convention in respect of travel by air, the Athens Convention in respect of travel by sea, the Berne Convention in respect of travel by rail and the Paris Convention in respect of the provision of accommodation,
NB this clause does not apply to any separate contracts that you may enter into for excursions or activities whilst on holiday. 13. Additional Assistance If the contract we have with you is not performed or is improperly performed as a result of failures attributable to a third party unconnected with the provision of the services, or as a result of failures due to unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all due care had been exercised, or an event which we or our suppliers, even with all due care, could not foresee or forestall, and you suffer an injury or other material loss, we will offer you such prompt assistance as is reasonable in the circumstances. If you’re in difficulty whilst on holiday and ask us to help we will provide appropriate assistance, in particular by providing information on health services, local authorities and consular assistance; and helping you to find alternative arrangements and any necessary phone calls/emails. You must pay any costs we incur, if the difficulty is your fault. 14. Passport, other ID, visa and immigration requirements For security reasons passengers require photographic identification such as a valid passport or a photo card driver’s licence. Your specific passport and visa requirements and any other immigration requirements are your responsibility and you should confirm these with the relevant Embassies and/or Consulates. We do not accept responsibility if you cannot travel because you have not complied with any security, passport, visa or immigration requirements. 15. Excursions Excursions or other tours that you may choose to book or pay for whilst you are on holiday are not part of the package holiday provided by us. For any excursion or other tour that you book, your contract will be with the operator of the excursion or tour and not with us. We are not responsible for the provision of the excursion or tour or for anything that happens during the course of its provision by the operator. 16. Disruptive Behaviour: You must take responsibility for your own behaviour and that of your party. C. I. Travel Group can and will terminate your holiday arrangements if your behaviour is in our reasonable opinion, or in the reasonable opinion of any person in authority, disruptive, upsetting or dangerous to yourself or anyone else. We will not pay any refund, compensation or any costs or expenses incurred by you if we have to terminate the holiday arrangements due to your unacceptable behaviour. In this situation we will have no further responsibility for you (including any return travel arrangements). If your unacceptable behaviour means you’re not allowed to board your outward flight we will treat your booking as cancelled from that moment. You will not be entitled to nor receive a refund for the unused part of your holiday. You will be responsible for paying for all damages occasioned by your behaviour. 17. Data Protection Personal data relating to individuals shall be collected, processed, stored and used securely and in accordance with relevant data protection laws. Data may be collected (but not limited to) via our website, by email, live chat, enquiry form or over the telephone. Calls to C. I. Travel Group may be recorded for quality and training purposes. You consent to the collection, processing, storing and use of your personal data to enable us to perform the holiday. This may include providing your details to Governments, immigration, airlines, ferry operators, accommodation providers and other competent authorities and/or as may be required by law.
