Figure Painting and Drawing

AGES 18 & UP INSTRUC TOR: VOLUNTEER LEADER

Uninstructed artists’ open studio workshop with live models for any skill level. Join this long-established group of artists in drawing or painting directly from the model. Work at your own pace using your choice of medium. Length of poses will vary from a few minutes to an entire session. If new to figure drawing you may want to bring a pad of drawing paper and pencil or charcoal to begin. Class size is limited to 10 students. Vaccinations are strongly encouraged and masks during class will be required for all participants.

Introduction to Nature Painting

NEW! Introduction to Nature Painting in Watercolor introduces students to essential watercolor techniques through the practice of capturing the elegant nature of trees and other landscape elements, rather than focusing on producing botanically correct and precise illustrations, this class shows students how to capture the character of the landscape that they are observing through direct observation and allows for the practice of a variety of watercolor techniques. Through instructor-led demonstrations, small group and one-on-one instruction, students will: learn 4 essential watercolor techniques, basic color mixing, basic landscape composition, drawing skills and how to start an outdoor sketch. Registration fee includes sketch kit (valued at $30).

Sogetsu Ikebana: Creative Flower Arrangement

AGES 18 & UP

Learn and develop creative self-expression of beauty and harmony through flower arrangements using common and unusual plant materials. Imaginative use of enhancing materials and containers adds to arrangements. Students make an arrangement using materials brought to class. Individual assistance and demonstrations available during class time.

Introduction to the Zentangle Method

What is it about making marks on sketchbook, notepads, or those little sample papers in front of the pen displays at the art store? It’s fun, soothing, and beautiful. That same appeal applies to the Zentangle Method, an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. In this introductory class, students will learn the steps of this meditational art form and create their own Zentangle tiles. No artistic experience necessary. Materials included.

Watercolor I - Beginning

AGES 18 & UP INSTRUC TOR: SUSAN MCALLISTER

Explore watercolor painting and learn basic techniques. “Brush up” on your painting skills before tackling more demanding paintings. Students will learn how to use basic wet into wet, wet on dry and wash techniques to paint natural phenomena such as clouds, water, plants and flowers. Individualized instruction will be provided to each participant, helping you to progress to a stronger skill level. The instructor requires participants to wear masks during class.

Watercolor I/II/III Beg/Intermediate/ Advanced

This intensive watercolor class will feature individualized instruction by an experienced watercolorist tailored to your personal choice of watercolor projects. Using available visual prompts or your own reference materials, you will be encouraged to achieve more detailed control of this creative medium while tackling an increasingly wider range of challenges such as clouds, water, flowers, natural environments, and figurative subjects. The instructor requires participants to wear masks during class.
