The Blaine Police Department, the Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View Fire Department, and the Blaine Parks and Recreation Department are sponsoring an exciting program to teach kids, through a variety of fun activities, how to be safe in their daily lives. The 20th annual Blaine Safety Camp interactive safety and information sessions may include: fire safety, water safety, internet safety, first aid, personal safety, electrical safety, animal safety, brain injury prevention, a police K9 demonstration and more. LITTLE SCHOOL ages 3 to 5

Educational and recreational activities are designed to enrich and develop your child’s social, intellectual and physical growth. Your child will have a great time in this class. Each class will have an assistant, making the leader to child ratio even better. Children will participate in activities appropriate for their age level, like arts & crafts, story-time, nature study, safety, and creative movement. This class is designed for preschool children; those who have attended kindergarten are not eligible to register even if they fall within the age range. Ages as of 9/1/16. Music Together is an award-winning, internationally acclaimed early childhood music and movement program for children from birth to kindergarten and the grownups who love them. In class, you’ll dance, sing, play rhythm instruments and share 45 minutes of pure fun with your child each week for 8 weeks while supporting your child or children’s cognitive, verbal, physical, emotional, social AND music development. Families receive CDs and songbooks of session’s song collection so the fun and learning continues at home. The cost for these materials is included in the tuition. All classes are mixed-age, so siblings can participate together. Infants under eight months on the first day of the session are free with a paying sibling. The cut off birth date for infant siblings to be free of charge is Oct. 19, 2015. Infants are welcomed in class and when registered as the only child in a family, pay the full tuition. Blast off on an out-of-this-world adventure to Play-Net Blaine. Our playground program is coming to a neighborhood park near you. The Cosmic FUN Van will be landing with our highly trained recreation crew, taking kids on a quest for the best summer on Earth. This supervised and structured program focuses on fun, physical fitness, socialization, and exploring creativity by: offering age-appropriate active games and sportrelated activities; encouraging kids to meet other kids in the neighborhood; and providing planned arts and crafts projects and drama activities based on weekly themes! Friday Field Trips

All field trips include quality supervision (1 to 10 ratio), bus transportation, and admissions. Participants must bring a bag lunch and wear sunscreen for outdoor locations - applied prior to checking in. One field trip t-shirt will be supplied for every participant and must be worn on all field trip days. Transportation departs from and returns to Blaine City Hall. Max 25.

MINNESOTA ZOO ages 7 to 12

Lions! Tiger! Bears and MORE! Join us for fun day at the zoo as we meander along the trails to see exotic and native Minnesotan wildlife. We will have time to play on the playground and run through the splash pad to cool off. The Minnesota Zoo is a classic summer time field trip. Bring a bag lunch. Register by June 10.

You will get the SUPERDAY PASS at Wild Mountain! The pass includes unlimited water rides, alpine rides and go karts! There are several large waterslides, a lazy river, kiddie park, wading pool, tipping bucket, water playground and more to keep you cool on a hot summer day! GROUP GUITAR LESSONS BEGINNER AND INTERMEDIATE ages 7 & up Dust off that guitar and come learn how to play it! Our lessons focus on having fun, learning and building skills. Beginning group lessons are a great way to learn basic chords and instrumentals while having a good time. Intermediate guitar is for those who have already learned the basics of guitar. Just when you think you’ve experienced every possible way to enjoy getting out on the water, here comes stand up paddle boarding! Fun, new, easy, cool, and a great workout! What else is there to say? Picture a beefed up surf board that is stable and a long canoe paddle to propel yourself. Class sizes are very small and the instruction is short and easy, so most of our time will be out on the water. No experience necessary. Max 6. Learn how to grow a bountiful garden earlier in the year, without herbicides or insecticides and without weeding. Learn how to plant vegetables, fruits, and even beautiful flower gardens, directly into your “conditioned” straw bales. Straw bale gardens are perfect for small spaces, limited sun, balconies, patios, rooftops and driveways! An optional handbook is available for purchase from the instructor for $5. Interested in gardening but live in an apartment or townhome? Or maybe your yard is too shady? Consider renting a community garden plot. The Blaine Community Garden is located adjacent to Blaine City Hall’s south parking lot and consists of 48 plots. The city will prepare the soil for planting, mark each plot, and provide water access. Plots are approximately 15’ by 20’; half-plots are 15’ x 10’. Plots will be ready for use in early May. Zentangle

Zentangle is a drawing method that enables people of all abilities (beginner to accomplished artist) to create beautiful images by using repeating patterns. Zentangles are not only exquisitely beautiful, they are fun and relaxing to create. Zentangle is an abstract art that can be adapted to decorate recognizable forms (animals, botanicals). ZENTANGLE BASICS In this workshop the emphasis will be on creating abstract images and the ways in which Zentangle is constructed using basic elements of design (flow, direction, balance, size and value). Using this approach, self-expression has a chance to blossom! You will create 8-10 tangles (patterns) and complete one Zentangle tile and two Bijou tiles. This focused Zentangle session is for those who have taken an introductory workshop (with any teacher) and are ready to learn and practice more advanced techniques. The Senior Dining Program offers noon meals at a suggested donation of $4 for people age 60 and over, and a cost of $7 for those under age 60. PARK SHELTER PERMITS

Some programs and activities may require a minimum number of participants. You will only be notified if the class/ activity is full or canceled. You will not receive a confirmation letter or call.

Large shelters are available to rent for family or group gatherings. See page 3 for more information. All other shelters are first-come, first-served.

REFUNDS

The Blaine Police Department and Park Patrol need your help to prevent vandalism and apprehend those who vandalize parks and recreation facilities. Vandals destroy what tax dollars have created. Costs associated with repairing vandalized property takes money away from recreational programs and facilities. Help stop vandalism. Always call 9-1-1 to report a crime in progress, including vandalism. To report a crime that occurred in a park but does not require immediate police response, call 763-427-1212. Calls are accepted 24 hours a day and you can remain anonymous.

Refunds are given if Blaine Parks and Recreation cancels the program or if registration fails because the activity is full. Participants canceling at least 7 days prior to an activity will be charged a cancellation fee as follows: $5 for programs costing $10-$99; $10 for programs costing $100 or more. Refunds will not be given for programs costing less than $10 or for cancellations made less than 7 days prior to the program start date. Trip refunds are subject to specific policies on a per-trip basis, based on advanced ticket purchases. Participants must contact the Parks and Recreation Department to request a refund.

All participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times while participating, watching, or attending any program or activity conducted or sponsored by the City of Blaine Parks and Recreation Department. Park Board Meetings

Regular meetings of the Blaine Park Board are conducted on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 pm at Blaine City Hall. All residents encouraged to attend. Persons wishing to present a discussion topic should contact Parks and Recreation staff in advance.

Blaine Arts Council

The Blaine Arts Council is a volunteer organization open to all interested individuals. Its mission is to promote, advance, and celebrate the arts in the community for the appreciation and participation of residents. The council sponsors ongoing art exhibitions at Blaine City Hall and organizes special arts events throughout the year. Council meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 PM at Blaine City Hall. Interested individuals are invited to attend a meeting and participate in events. Adopt-a-Park

Want to improve parks and trails? Consider adopting a park as a family, neighborhood group or community service organization. As a partner with the City of Blaine, your group can help accomplish needed park and trail improvements. I also understand that I may cancel this consent by a writing to that effect at any time prior to the information being released. I give my consent to use any photograph or video tape taken of my child (or person I am responsible for as guardian), or myself for future promotional or marketing materials.
