Blaine Celebrates Successful Summer of Major Events

This summer, Blaine emerged as a vibrant hub for sports and community, hosting three major events that not only brought visitors from across the world but also showcased the City’s unique spirit and hospitality. From the renowned Target USA Cup to the thrilling 3M Open, and the National Veterans Tournament, Blaine hosted a diverse range of athletic events that cater to various interests and backgrounds.

Target USA Cup

Kicking off the summer was the Target USA Cup, one of the largest youth soccer tournaments in North America. This year, over 1,150 teams participated, drawing in approximately 20,000 visitors per day to the area. The excitement filled the fields and local venues, creating a buzz that resonated throughout Blaine, with the event generating an impressive economic impact of approximately $36 million.

3M Open

Next on the agenda was the prestigious 3M Open, which attracted golf enthusiasts from near and far. Held at the TPC Twin Cities, the tournament welcomed over 100,000 spectators over its duration. The event not only showcased elite golfing talent but also highlighted Blaine’s natural beauty and recreational offerings. Local businesses saw a significant boost, with the economic impact estimated at around $50 million, showcasing the importance of such events in promoting tourism and supporting the local economy.

National Veterans Tournament

This summer also marked a historic milestone for Blaine with the introduction of the National Veterans Tournament. This tournament celebrated soccer heritage, bringing together former professional and amateur players over the age of 35. With a focus on staying active, fostering camaraderie, and supporting one another, this new event attracted approximately 10,000 players and spectators. The economic impact from this event was estimated at $7 million, adding to the region’s overall summer success.

Overall, the combined economic impact of these three events exceeded $90 million in the region, making a significant contribution to Blaine’s economy. Meet Anoka County’s New Open to Business Advisor

Maria

Maria Thor has been appointed as the new Open to Business Advisor for Anoka County after Carrie Mikkonen left the role. Maria has vast experience in owning, operating, and supporting small businesses around the Twin Cities. She owned her own family childcare business for over 10 years before moving into the non-profit world. She is excited to support Anoka County businesses through their business adventures. In her free time, Maria enjoys the creativity of baking human and dog treats, biking the various trails of Minnesota, and traveling the world.

at the 2024 MN Brewers Cup

Invictus Brewing Company has once again made a mark in the brewing community! Their Flying Ninja Monkeys Black IPA clinched third place in the Double & Specialty IPAs category at the 2024 MN Brewers Cup. This year, Invictus faced tough competition, with over 90 breweries and brewpubs from across Minnesota submitting nearly 450 beers.

Last year, Invictus also showcased their talent, winning gold for Blaine It on The Rain Amber Ale in the American Amber, Blonde, and Pale Ale category.

With over 85 golfers registered to participate, the event was a successful a day filled with networking, friendly competition, and camaraderie.

The Business Appreciation Golf Event serves as a platform for the City to express its gratitude to the businesses that play a vital role in driving economic growth and community development. Participants have the opportunity to connect with fellow entrepreneurs, share ideas, and build valuable partnerships while enjoying a day on the beautiful TPC course.

Unlocking Home Ownership

Introducing Blaine’s Welcome Home Loan Program

The City of Blaine is excited to announce the upcoming Welcome Home Loan Program in partnership with Refined Lending, designed to help first-time homebuyers step into home ownership within the community. This program offers a rate buydown feature, providing significant savings for buyers upfront and throughout the life of their loan.

Program Preview

• Minimum credit score: 620

• First-time homebuyer qualification required

• Household income must not exceed 80% Area Median Income (AMI)

• Maximum purchase price: $450,000

• Loan amounts must meet conforming loan limits and debt-toincome (DTI) guidelines

• Eligible properties: Single-family homes, townhomes, condos (Condo financing subject to loanto-value [LTV] overlays and must be approved by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or FHA)

• Multi-unit properties (2-4 units) available for owner-occupants (rate adjustments apply)

• Financing must be through Refined Lending powered by Luminate Home Loans

The Welcome Home Loan Program can also be paired with the City of Blaine Down Payment Assistance Program, which offers up to $10,000 in down payment or closing cost assistance for first-time homebuyers.
