Business Visits The vitality of a local economy depends upon a healthy, growing business community. In recognition of this fact, the City of Blaine offers a business visit program.
Sunrise Elementary School New Construction
In 2016, Anoka-Hennepin School District organized the Anoka-Hennepin Fit for the Future Task Force, including engaged parents, community members, and school district staff. Their charge was to study the needs of school facilities both now and in the future. Based on the input and recommendations from this group, a $249 million bond referendum was placed on the ballot in 2017 and approved by the voters in the Anoka-Hennepin School District. The referendum is to improve and expand facilities, including construction of a new elementary school in Blaine. The new school, named Sunrise Elementary, is located at the corner of Lever Street NE and 125th Avenue NE in a growing part of Blaine. Construction of the new school began in 2018 with completion in time for the start of the 2019 school year. Sunrise will serve approximately 850 students in kindergarten through fifth grade in its first year. The school is also partnering with the district’s early childhood program to offer preschool opportunities. The new school will also provide additional community space including gym areas, large group meeting spaces, before and after school programs, and playground space. Anoka-Hennepin is also making improvements to Blaine High School including additions to eliminate portable classrooms, provide additional cafeteria space, gymnasium upgrades, and expand administrative offices. For more information, visit the district webpage at AHSchools.us.
Centennial High School
The primary purpose of the program is to establish a connection between city government and private businesses and industries in the community. By visiting with and gathering information from companies through this program, the city can become aware of expansion needs and anticipated business growth, address any needs or concerns you may have, and offer city assistance and support where possible. Business visits are scheduled at a time that is convenient for the business owner. Visits are meant to be both productive and helpful to the growth and longevity of businesses here in Blaine. Generally one or two members of city staff and the Blaine City Council attend. If you would like to participate please contact Erik Thorvig at ethorvig@blainemn.gov or by phone at 763-785-6147.
Expansion Project
A referendum was approved by voters of the Centennial School District to improve facilities across the district. The district is planning improvements at their Blaine campus that include construction of a new grounds/storage building, ice arena addition and remodel, an additional link to the west and east high school buildings, reconstruction of the parking/bus drop lot, and additional parking stalls for the campus. These improvements will occur over the summer. For more information, visit the district webpage at ISD12.org.
