Construction & The Built Environment (Construction)

Level 4 HNC

Overview

The course is designed specifically for those individuals currently working or wishing to work in the construction industry. It offers detailed understanding and knowledge for a wide variety of technical occupations found in the construction sector.

What you’ll learn

You will be taught a range of industry specific modules which may include: the technologies of construction, construction science and materials, health and safety, construction and the environment, construction management, measurement and quantity surveying.

Delivery method

Through a mixture of presentations, lectures and seminars. You will be supported through individual and group tutorials.

Where it can take you

This HNC is the first stage of working towards professional qualifications and the relevant chartered status. The course aims to give you the flexibility, knowledge, and motivation to progress on to a relevant degree course/specialism or pursue a job in the industry.

Students usually need one or more of the following: 24-48 UCAS points Achievement of the Access to HE

Diploma including at least 30 level 3 credits in maths and science GCSE English, maths and science at grade 6 or above plus another two

Construction and Built Environment Related, relevant work experience at the required level for an acceptable period of time

You’ll need to be prepared for an interview.

Construction & The Built Environment (Civil Engineering)

Level 4 HNC

Overview

Civil engineers play a major role in creating the infrastructure, structures and systems that sustain and improve society. Their responsibilities are wide ranging and include designing, building, maintaining and improving bridges, roads, canals, docks, office buildings, airports, power stations and railways. Taught by professionals from industry, students gain knowledge and skills that meet professional day-to-day needs of civil engineering and construction business across the whole industry. If you are already working in the civil engineering industry or for those who want to progress on from a Level 3 qualification in this field then this could be the course for you.

What you’ll learn

You will study a wide range of modules which could include: Building technology for construction and the built environment Science and materials for construction and the built environment Applied mathematics for construction and the built environment Civil engineering technology Structural analysis and design

Site Management

Level 4 Certificate/Diploma

Overview

This internationally recognised course is designed to meet the needs of those individuals that are employed in, or training for, site management. You will commence on the Certificate in your first year and then those eligible can progress on to the Diploma for a further two years of study.

These qualifications provide underpinning knowledge and skills to those individuals with the drive to develop themselves and improve their career prospects in construction management. All applicants are required to become registered with CIOB and are guided through this process.

What you’ll learn

You will study a range of modules around your current site experience. Modules you may study during the Certificate could include: Managing health, safety and wellbeing in construction works Project planning, control, monitoring & risk for construction Managing people in a professional context

Modules you may study during the Diploma could include:

Contractual and legal responsibilities within a construction environment

Managing the quality of construction works

Managing sustainable construction

Through a mixture of presentations, group work and coursework. You will be supported through individual and group tutorials.

Where it can take you

After completion of the Certificate you can become a CIOB member and after successful completion of the Diploma you can progress on to full chartered membership.
