Construction Multi Trades Certificate Level 1

Awarded by Pearson/Edexcel Advanced Construction Skills Centre One year, full-time

This course is an entry-level introduction to the world of construction. You will complete a series of carpentry, brickwork and wet trade assignments, as well as studying English and Maths at the right level for you and developing your employability.

Construction (Electrical Installation) Certificate Level 1

Awarded by City & Guilds Ashley Down Centre One year, full-time

This course teaches students fundamental electrical installation skills, including making a circuit, costing a small repair and drawing a plan of a room. You will also undertake work experience to develop your practical skills. The construction industry accounts for 40% of the UK’s total emissions, and the sector is changing rapidly to reduce its impact on our environment. With key priorities including retrofitting existing housing, using sustainable materials and switching to greener energy, there has never been a more exciting time to enter the construction industry and be a part of the journey to net zero.

Electrical Installation Diploma Level 2

This course is an introduction to working as an electrician, and combines theoretical and practical elements. You will learn basic electrical installation, science, communication, calculation of components and safe working practices, as well as English and Maths at the right level for you.

Electrical Installation Diploma Level 3

Awarded by EAL Ashley Down Centre One year, full-time

This course is for students progressing from the Electrical Installation Diploma Level 2. You will learn the advanced skills needed to qualify as an electrician, and progress into a higher-level apprenticeship or employment.

Electrical Installation Apprenticeship Level 3

Awarded by EAL Ashley Down Centre Four years, full-time

This course will teach you all the skills you need to become a qualified electrician. For the first three years you will attend College one day a week to support your workplace learning and work on your NVQ portfolio. The final year is entirely in the workplace, where you will complete your portfolio and prepare for your endpoint assessment.

Construction (Plumbing) Certificate Level 1

This course teaches students fundamental plumbing skills, including fixing water pipes, making minor repairs in a house and costing repair jobs. You will also undertake work experience to develop your practical skills.

Plumbing Studies Diploma Level 2

Awarded by City & Guilds Ashley Down Centre One year, full-time

This course introduces the skills you will need to become a plumber. Topics covered include domestic water systems, sanitation and drainage, electrical and science principles, heating systems, detailed calculation of quantities and safe working practices, as well as English and Maths at the right level for you.

Plumbing Apprenticeship Level 3

Awarded by City & Guilds Ashley Down Centre Four years, full-time

This course will teach you all the skills you need to become a plumbing and heating technician, including planning, selecting, installing and maintaining all aspects of plumbing and heating systems. You will attend College one day a week to supplement your workplace learning with off-the-job knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Construction (Bricklaying) Level 1

This course teaches students fundamental bricklaying skills, including costing repair jobs, making minor repairs, drawing a plan of a room and building walls. You will also undertake work experience to develop your practical skills.

Bricklaying Diploma Level 2

This course is an introduction to brickwork skills, including how to build solid brick and block walls and brick piers, and how to interpret working drawings to set out masonry structures. You will also gain practical experience of thin joint masonry and masonry cladding, and study English and Maths at the right level for you.

Brickwork Apprenticeship Level 2

Awarded by City & Guilds Advanced Construction Skills Centre or Ashley Down Centre Three years, full-time

This course will teach you all the skills you need to become a bricklayer. You will learn through a combination of workplace learning and training at College to pass your endpoint assessment and complete your qualification.

Construction (Carpentry and Joinery) Level 1

Awarded by City & Guilds Advanced Construction Skills Centre One year, full-time

This course teaches students fundamental carpentry and joinery skills, including making carpentry joints, making minor repairs to a house, drawing a plan of a room and costing small carpentry jobs. You will also undertake work experience to develop your practical skills.

Site Carpentry Diploma Level 2

Awarded by City & Guilds Advanced Construction Skills Centre or Ashley Down Centre One year, full-time

This course is for students who want to learn carpentry skills beyond basic woodworking. You will learn quantities and communicating with others, understanding construction technology, carrying out fixing operations and carrying out structural carcassing operations.

I am a very practical learner and once I found out I could obtain on-site experience while gaining qualifications and being paid, I couldn’t say no! I have found the whole experience very enjoyable and I have learned an extraordinary amount about the construction industry since starting as an apprentice.

Bench Joinery Diploma Level 2

This course teaches students the skills needed for a career as a joiner. You will gain hands-on experience of setting and marking out for joinery components such as doors, windows and stairs, and learn how to set up and operate a circular saw.

Bench Joinery Apprenticeship Level 2

This course is for students who have already secured employment in a bench joinery role. You will learn job-specific skills from your employer, supplemented by training at College, to obtain a work-based NVQ, College certificate and Functional Skills qualification if necessary.

Bench Joinery Apprenticeship Level 3

Plastering Diploma Level 2

This course teaches students the skills needed for a career as a plasterer. You will gain hands-on experience of applying plaster and plaster products to internal and external surfaces, forming cement sand screeds, communication and detailed building quantities calculations.

Interior Systems Installer (Dry Lining) Apprenticeship Level 2

This course teaches the skills required to begin a career as an interior systems installer. You will learn the methods to install different drylining systems that form the walls and rooms within a building, often used to hide wires and pipes whilst improving acoustics and create space for insulation.

Maintenance Operations Diploma Level 2

This course teaches the skills needed for a career as a maintenance operative. You will learn how to carry out small-scale plastering, plumbing, painting, building decorating and carpentry repairs. You will also learn about health, safety and welfare in construction.

Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship Level 2

This course is for students already working in a maintenance role, such as in housing or commercial properties. You will use your existing knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing and decorating to carry out repairs and reactive maintenance.
