From the Mayor

All eyes are on Arizona in February with a major golf tournament, the “big” game and the Buckeye Air Fair Feb. 17 through 19 at the Buckeye Municipal Airport. Every year, the city’s Community Services Department finds ways to make this event better than the year before. They are truly an amazing group of talented and innovate folks.

First off, we have a new partnership with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. The Buckeye Air Fair will be AOPA’s first Fly-In of 2023, so expect to see a wider variety and more private aircraft on display this year. AOPA will provide pilots access to safety seminars, hands-on aircraft displays and lectures from industry experts.

AOPA will also be part of the new Air Fair Aviation Academy. This three-day learning opportunity is designed for students from 5th to 12th grade, giving them the opportunity to experience aviation related science, technology, art, engineering and math activities. There are a ton of free, hands-on activities to participate in, starting off with a behind-the-scenes experience on Field Trip Friday. Plus, flight simulators and demonstrations, remote controlled aircraft flyers and seminars featuring “You Can Be a Pilot”, “Get Started in Flying” and so much more!

We’ve also added performers to this year’s airshow and extended it an additional 30 minutes! You can now enjoy a two-and-half hour airshow featuring fan favorites Jon Melby and Brad Wursten. Plus, the fourship formation Vanguard Squadron returns this year along with newcomers Red Thunder Airshows, the Mini Jet Airshow, Pylon Aviation and Tucker’s Air Patrol.

This will be a performance you will not want to miss! We also adjusted performance times this year, with the airshow starting at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. This gives you plenty of time to check out all the displays, activities, kids zone and great vendors and delicious food before the show begins.

Admission is free, but there is a $10 parking fee if paid in advance online, otherwise it is $15, and multi-day passes are available too. Full details are at buckeyeairfair.com. Your best option to experience the Buckeye Air Fair is becoming a VIP! This gives you an up-close view of the airshow, preferred parking passes, premier seating, light refreshments and access to private restrooms. It’s a great deal you don’t want to pass up, especially since seating is limited. Learn more at buckeyeaz. gov/vip.

Remember to mark your calendars for other great events coming up after the Air Fair. The Veterans Lift Up event on March 4 provides excellent services and resources for our active military and Veterans, including a free breakfast. Our annual Spring Celebration on April 1 provides fun and games for children of all ages.

Plus, Bike Buckeye returns in March. Enjoy a short bike ride with me through several of Buckeye’s wonderful neighborhoods and enjoy a free concert after the ride. Besides all these fantastic events, Buckeye offers you excellent programs, classes and activities for every member of your family. Everything you need to know is at buckeyeaz.gov/rec
