DALE CHEATHAM BIDS US FAREWELL

I T H A S B E E N A N H O N O R TO S E R V E Dale Cheatham took over as the city manager of Burleson in 2012 and is officially wrapping up his 30year government career as of February 2019. Under his leadership, the city has seen its credit rating upgraded, joined an elite group of only 270 municipalities in the United States with an Insurance Services Office (ISO) Class 1 rating, opened a new police headquarters and municipal court and experienced year-after-year business growth in the city’s industrial park. Dale took time to reflect on his service with the City of Burleson and sent out the following message to its employees:

CITY OF BURLESON

|

“I want to express my gratitude for the service each of you provide. I’ve worked with some wonderful people throughout my 30 year career serving in several cities, but as a group, you are the best. Our city and I have been blessed to have such talented and good people with high values who really care about each other and our citizens. Collectively, you have made my job much easier. To a large degree we are measured by how we serve and treat others. There have been countless examples during my seven years where you have far exceeded all expectations and truly exhibited a servant’s heart. I am proud to have been able to serve with you and will be forever grateful for the opportunity.”

EMPLOYEE OF THE QUARTER

EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR Tammy James Code Compliance Officer GETTING TO KNOW TAMMY What motivates you in your job? The opportunity to improve the living conditions of a neighborhood. I also love getting to know the citizens. While my job is enforcement, letting them know we all need to work together is important. Our job is very trying and having support and great co-workers means the world. All of this combined is my motivation.

What is your favorite part of your job? When people receive notices from me, they are not sure where to start. Building a rapport with the homeowner lets them know they can call me and that eases their frustration. I often find as a home repair project progresses,

many of the homeowners who were once frustrated with me become very happy with the results and show pride in their work, deservedly so. Getting to know people is a pleasure. There are so many good folks here in Burleson.

What is your best customer service tip? Take the time to listen to and have a conversation with people. Help them whenever you can and be open to the very generous people in our area who offer to volunteer their time and labor. A city employee can be a very good resource of information for them. Be professional but kind when you can, and as my boss always says “Be an ambassador for the City of Burleson.”

My First Job

Breakfast of Champions

My first job was working at an animal clinic off of West 7th Street in Fort Worth. I started there as a kennel tech and when I left two years later I had worked my way up to surgical tech. The clientele was wealthy, to say the least. Several times animals were dropped off by clients’ staff members who were driven to the clinic in a limousine. I remember one time the doctor used the autoclave (sterilizing machine) to cook maple pancakes for us. From then on, any time we sterilized our equipment, the place smelled like someone was cooking breakfast! It was a great first job experience and I’m lucky to still be doing what I love. - Kim Peckler, Animal Control Supervisor
