Looking for a chance to give back? We’re looking for you, too. Almost all City departments need volunteers, but some of our most popular departments are Parks and Recreation which includes the Museum and the Senior Center; Animal Services; Libraries; and Environmental Services. Community Volunteer Opportunities— People Helping People
The City’s Neighborhood Partnership Office is seeking local businesses that have a desire to help residents in need. Projects could include painting a house, minor exterior repairs, or yard work. Decide what type of project your group would like to work on and the City will match the right project for you. Don’t have the time or staff to volunteer? Donate project supplies so our volunteers can get to work. Help Sick or Injured Animals in Our Local Animal Shelter
The Carrollton Animal Adoption Center is an open intake facility providing refuge to local stray and/or abandoned animals. Many of these animals come in to the shelter with no medical history and some are very sick or injured, requiring expensive care. Help offset these costs via sponsorship opportunities. Purchase a leaf to be displayed on the Animal Services Tree of Life. Sponsorships are also available for cat cages, dog runs, or visiting rooms and come with a dedicated plaque featuring a message of your choice, good for one year. This funding not only supports treating sick or injured animals, but helps provide vaccinations and other services to protect the health of the animals. Annual Rabies Vaccination Clinic
Carrollton Animal Services hosts a low-cost rabies vaccination clinic to support those in the community who may not be able to afford annual vet visits. During this event, City pet registration is also provided at no cost, which allows the return of more pets to their human companions each year. In its third year, the event had significant growth with more than 300 in attendance; 240 rabies vaccinations were given and 250 pets were registered. Help this effort by sponsoring a single rabies vaccination for $5. Based on availability, free rabies vaccinations will be ready or on hand for those in need. Vintage Baseball Games
Vintage baseball is played by many communities across Texas, and Carrollton is proud to have its own team, the Carrollton Elite. Organized by the A. W. Perry Homestead Museum and played using 1860s rules, the name and uniforms come directly from Carrollton’s 1910 team. Admission is free, and everyone is invited to come enjoy the games and learn a little baseball history. Huzzah! Carrollton Trails 5K
This growing event has quickly become a Carrollton favorite. The 5K and 1-mile fun run invites all ages to explore the City’s expanding trails system on this concrete, downhill course. Awards are given for overall male and female runners, and in nine age categories from 10 & under to 70+. Prizes will also be awarded to the top three registered dogs! Youth Fishing Event
Carrollton’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Texas Junior Anglers (TJA) program host the free annual Youth Fishing Event for children 16 and under. The serene Josey Ranch Pond is generously stocked with adult catfish to give fishing enthusiasts a great opportunity to win a slew of prizes and trophies. While it’s recommended children bring their own equipment, TJA provides loaner rods, reels, bait, and tackle to those who need them. The pond is opened to licensed adults at the conclusion of the event. Citizens’ Evening
The City of Carrollton, along with the Neighborhood Advisory Commission, hosts the annual Citizens’ Evening at City Hall each Fall. This event gives residents an opportunity to meet with City officials, staff, and Neighborhood Advisory Board members to learn about upcoming projects, volunteer opportunities, crime prevention techniques, neighborhood programs, and building stronger neighborhood associations. Community organizations and City departments set up information tables for residents to visit upon arrival, before a speaker from the community gives a keynote address. Carrollton’s award-winning Festival at the Switchyard features something for everyone: concerts featuring national headliners, great food, a beer garden, arts and crafts, live children’s entertainment, interactive games, and activities for children. This annual Festival honors the critical role the railroad played in putting Carrollton on the map—and the continuing importance of rail in Carrollton’s present and future. This FREE outdoor Festival is held on the streets of Downtown Carrollton, situated off I-35E between the George Bush Turnpike and LBJ Freeway at Belt Line Road.
