New Facilities

As our community grows, so do our recreation facilities. We have three exciting projects in Coquitlam!

• The new Maillardville Community Centre (MCC), located at 1200 Cartier Ave., is now open and offering programs for residents of all ages. The facility features the City's first dedicated gymnasium, children’s program area with large covered outdoor space, multipurpose rooms, a sprung-floor active studio, a teaching kitchen and much more. Sports drop-ins, fitness classes, cooking classes, social activities, birthday parties and other educational programs are all available at MCC. Visit coquitlam.ca/MCC to learn more.

• Planning is underway for a new multi-use community centre in the Burke Mountain Village neighbourhood, which is targeted to open in 2026. The proposed concept for the community centre includes an aquatics centre, gymnasiums, indoor and outdoor walking tracks, a fitness centre, public art and much more. Go to coquitlam.ca/NECC to find out more.

• Coquitlam's Bettie Allard YMCA Community Centre for Cottonwood Park in Burquitlam is set to open to the public toward the end of 2022 with full operation beginning in January 2023. It will include a 55,000-square-foot facility with an indoor pool, gym, fitness studio, multi-purpose space and other amenities. Visit coquitlam.ca/ymca for full details.

Bad Seed Weed Out Invasive Plants

Invasive plants kill native plants and destroy Coquitlam’s beautiful natural habitat. They spread aggressively and destroy the habitat of fish, birds and other wildlife.

We need your help to keep Coquitlam free of Bad Seeds:

• Learn how to identify invasive plants and avoid buying or planting them

• Never dump garden waste or hanging baskets into natural areas

• Volunteer for a local weed pull event to help remove invasive plants from local parks

• Dispose of invasive plant material in your Green Cart

For more information or to volunteer, visit coquitlam.ca/badseed or email parks@coquitlam.ca

Group Fitness Class Rules

How to have a positive class experience:

• Obtain a drop-in fitness ticket from the front desk and bring it to your instructor.

• Leave those heeled or open-toed shoes behind —athletic shoes are best or bare feet for yoga!

• Enjoy being unplugged! Please turn off cell-phones and other devices.

• Be air aware and avoid the use of scented products whenever possible.

• Encouraging words are the best words!

• Respectful language is the only option in our classes.

• Please stay home if you're sick or experiencing any symptoms.

• Avoid leaving water bottles or other items to save spots for yourself or friends.

Be On Time

Remember to be on time for class. Arriving late may disrupt those around you and may not allow for a sufficient warm up and class introduction.*

Wristbands

Wear your wristband as proof of admission. The band must be sealed to be valid and must be worn on your wrist or shoe.

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please direct them to the trainer on duty

*Please note instructors may deny late entry based  on class design.

The Theologian's Cafe at

Glen Pine Pavilion

You will have a chance to air your views and to listen to those of others on religious, spiritual and related topics.

Participants from all religious affiliations (and those without one) are welcome to this nondenominational café.

Climate Change and the Church (or temple, synagogue, etc.)

Climate change is nearly everyone’s favorite (or near favorite) topic these days. But is it the Church’s? Does the Church have a role to play in addressing this topic? And if so, how far should this extend?

M Mar 20  1:30 – 3:30 p.m.  1/ 106465

Prayer

There are at least three types of prayers: prayers of request, prayers of thanksgiving and prayers of adoration. (Check out the Book of Psalms in the Bible for lots of examples of each of these.) Does prayer have a place in your life? If so is it regular, sporadic or purely ritualistic? But does prayer actually work? And does prayer necessarily imply the existence of a god to pray to?

M Feb 27  1:30 – 3:30 p.m.  1/ 106460

The Nones—Who are they and what do they believe?

Do you check “None: or “none or the above” when asked for your religious affiliation on census forms? Then you are a “None”. But despite their nonaffiliation with a listed religious group, many still regard themselves as being “spiritual.” Let us look at this rather eclectic group and the wide range spiritual beliefs and practices they do ascribe to.
