Information Refunds

Full refunds may be requested three business days prior to the start of a program/season. Refunds requested within three business days prior to the start of a program/season may offer the potential for proration or a full refund. Registrations paid in cash or check will be refunded in the form of an WebTrac credit or city check; city check may take up to 30 days. Registrations paid with credit will be refunded via a personal credit refund or an RecTrac credit. Scholarships will remain non-refundable. Satisfaction Policy: Patrons may request a refund at any time after the start of a program if they are unhappy with it. These must be submitted in writing or email and sent directly to the appropriate supervisor. The type of program will determine the amount of refund provided (this may be adjusted due to pre-advertised supplies purchased, etc.).

Accessibility The Leisure Services Department believes that all individuals should be provided with accessible recreation opportunities. Upon request during registration, individuals with disabilities will be provided accommodations and/or one-on-one support to better assist in program participation. There is no additional cost to the registrant for this service. For more information contact Janna Beau at 563.589.4315.

Volunteering

The Leisure Services Department is always seeking help in providing improved services to the community. If you have a desire to volunteer time to assist with a program or clean a park, or would like to donate a tree or provide materials or money to improve a certain facility, please contact the office at 563.589.4263.

Public Transportation

The Jule provides public transportation to bus stops near many parks and recreation facilities including Flora and Sutton Pools, Carnegie-Stout Public Library, the Multicultural Family Center, Comiskey Park, and many others. Youth ages 6-18 ride for FREE if they are able to show a school ID card. If not, it’s only $1 per year to purchase a swipe card! Kids under 5 should be accompanied by an adult or guardian. Passes can be picked up at The Jule Intermodal Center (950 Elm St.) and City Hall (50 West 13th St.) during regular business hours. Everyone is required to create a new account! Creating your account in advance will save you time when you register for classes, programs, activities, swim lessons, etc. Get started now and create your account today!

$150 Family Scholarship The Leisure Services Family Scholarship is a $150 household credit for income-qualified families (two or more related people from the same address). We are converting Allison-Henderson Center into an all-inclusive play environment! Parents/ caregivers and their children will enjoy games, activities, and centers. Themes include exercise, fine and gross motor skills, arts, manipulatives, and more. Children will build important social and developmental skills and heighten their sense of wonder and discovery in this free form, fun-filled unstructured setting! Parent/Caregiver & Child Class!

Capoeira (pronounced cap-oh-air-uh) finds its roots deep in the culture of slavery in Brazil. Capoeira was a way for them to blend their past culture with their newfound culture in Brazil. Library Adult Programs Adult Winter Reading Challenge

Upcycled Memory Boxes with DMASWA

This challenge can be completed through the Beanstack app (dubuque.beanstack.org) or with a physical bingo card available at the first-floor Recommendations Desk. Start the challenge by reading “Where We Come From,” a picture book for all ages available to read on hoopla. Earn squares on your virtual or physical bingo cards by logging your reading minutes from books that explore themes of family, history, or identity. Completing one regular bingo will give you an entry into a prize drawing at the end of the challenge. Limit of one entry per person. Physical bingo cards must be submitted to the Recommendations Desk by Feb. 2. Virtual bingo cards will be automatically submitted through the Beanstack app.

Make a resolution to reduce waste in the new year! Join the Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency to learn how to keep items out of the landfill and use upcycled materials to create a darling memory box for your most precious keepsakes. Participants may bring their own shoebox or other small box to upcycle for this project. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Learn to Line Dance

Want to learn how to play the ukulele? Join librarian Ben every other week on Tuesday nights, to work on chords, exercises, and songs all geared toward beginners. If you are brand new to the instrument consider arriving early for help with tuning your uke. Participants are encouraged to bring their own instrument or check one out from the library if available. There will be a limited number of ukuleles at the lesson to use for those who don’t come with one, but they are first come first served.

A StoryWalk® is an outdoor reading experience that displays pages of a book along a path or trail; it combines the joy of reading with all the benefits of being active outside!

Dubuque Winter Fun Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing is allowed in any of Dubuque’s parks or along the City’s trail systems when areas are completely covered with snow. Popular locations include Eagle Point Park and Bunker Hill Golf Course. Bunker Hill Golf Course requires a minimum of three inches of snow cover and it is requested that tees and greens not be used. Tees are level, rectangular areas with wooden posts nearby, and greens are level, circular areas which are susceptible to snow compaction damage. Specific trails are not groomed, so come be the first to create a new trek! Crosscountry skiing and snowshoeing is available from sunrise to sunset.

Ice Skating

Dubuque’s outdoor ice skating rink is located at the corner of N. Grandview Ave. and Loras Blvd. It is equipped with two goals for hockey games, but can also be enjoyed for free skating. This rink is unsupervised and available to groups or individuals on a first-come, first-served basis. The rink is open daily when temperatures permit from 9 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. and lights are available from 4 - 9:30 p.m. The light switch is located on a gray electrical utility box along Nowata St. No restroom facilities are available. Public skating is available at the indoor rink at ImOn Arena. Admission is $9 for adults and $5 for 12 and under and $3 for skate rental. For more information, visit imonarena.com.
