Golden High School began their year of do m ination over the Centra l Suburban League by winning the football championship. Actua lly , the Demons went down in the re cord books as co-champions v1ith the Westminster Warriors, but Golden proved that they were the sole c rown-wea rers with an impressive 12 -0 play-off victory over the Warriors.
The ne,.;spaper boys, as usua l, rated Golden to finish in the second division. Actually , the preseason prospects of the ball club weren't too bright, as a good deal of the Demon team was made up of boys with very littl e experience. Howeve r, under the excellent coaching of Mark E aton and with much desire and hard work on the part of the players, the team took shape and proved to be the toughest in the league.
MEET the CHAMPIONS
Anothe r season , another championship There was just no s t opping those ha r d-fighting Demons this yea r, and basketba ll was no exception. The r e a r e a few peop l e who wo uld mislead you with the statemen t that Gol den and Lakewood we r e co-champions, and this is t r ue so fa r as the r eco r d books go . But the fact remains that the Golden 'ballhawks ' twisted the Tige r 's tai l in a pl ay-o ff game
The dete r mined Demons wen t into the l eague seaso n with a 5-0 pre-season r ecord The y kept this grue ling pace until thei r st r ing o f victories r eached 12. And then the inevnabl e happened The Tige r s de fea t ed the Demons 4130 co assure Lakewood of at l east a co-championship The Demons smothe r ed Lakewood •s hopes of a c l ear-cu t tit l e with their 66-58 victo r y over Lin l eton
The Demons ente r ed the pos t- season Tournament with the same fighting spi ri t that won them the l eague championship. They f ought thei r way to the fina l s , and then de feated thei r o l d f ootba ll r ivals , Westminste r, to take the fi r st-p l ace tr ophy .
Fo r the second time in two yea r s Gol den was r ep resented in the State Basketba ll Tournament The only diffe r ence was that the Demons pl ayed in the cough 'AA • b r acket rather than the •A• b r acket. The ba llclub •s fi r st tes t came in the form of Engl ewood Gol den s tr eaked through the game with a 64-53 t r iumph On the fo ll owing night the Demons f aced the East High Angl es i n the semifina l s Gol den put up a te r rific batt l e be f o r e fa llin g to the Ange l s by a sco r e o f 62-51
The Gol den Demons comp l e t ed the season with a reco r d o f 17 wins against o nl y 2 losses The credi t f o r the success o f this team must be given to two pa r ties F i r st of a ll to Coach B ill L ewis who led the boys through both victo r y and defeat , neve r l osing his fighting spi r it , neve r admining defeat until the fina l gun And then to the boys themsel ves , wo r king together as one team with only one thought in mind ' Win that game .'

BASKETBALL SCHEDULE ( 54 - 55)
WE ARE S I NCERELY SOR -
TURE THIS YEAR CONGRAT -
The Golden High Sc hool wrestling team finished the wrestling season the holders of two titles • ••• League c hampions and Distri c t champions This great rec ord compiled by these boys should serve as a challenge to Golden' s future wrestling teams . Untold c redit must be given to the ex ce llen t coaching of C oach Darryl Halling
Th e unique examp l e set by him in both his fighting spirit and in hi s sportsmanship was of immea s urable value in pushing his team to vi c tory
The league c hampionship is determined by a League Tournament. Golden immediately built up a c omfortable lea d whi c h they k ep t to the final few matc h es The Demons only se r ious threat came in the form of Arvada , but the fighting Demon team warded off the threat and finished the Tourne y in the no 1 spot
On the following weekend , Golden was represented in the District by the seven boy s who qualified in the League Tournament. They entered the District Tournament, not for on e minute l osing their fighting sp irit or their winning tac ti cs The result was another ch ampionship for Gold e n
Se v e n boys from Golden qualified for the S tate Wrestling Tournament held in Denver. Salvador Ar c hule tta p la ce d se c ond in that Tourney and Jerry Potter ended up with a fourth place Training, p e rsonal pride, sc hool spirit, team sp irit. •• • all of these fa c tor s go into the make-up of a c hampionship tea~ and this year' s wr estling t e am possessed them all. This team and their very success ful sea so n will never be forgotten in Golden High Schoo l .
LETTERING SENIORS
This team , a 1 th o ugh it did not win a ll its games , certain ly shows a lot of promising material.
FOOTBALL
GOLF
Fo r the fi rst time in the history of our school , Spring ,.,ill find many of our Demons toting their golf bags to school. Several boys h a ve answere d the golf call issued by Co ach Darryl HaOing. The team wil l be made up of five boys ,.,rho wi l l be p l ay-
ing Lakewood and Whea tr idge of the Cent r a l Subu rb a n League and a l so schools of both the Denver and Northe r n l eagues. A state golf tournament , in which ,.,e hope to be re p resented , ,.,ri l l be he l d at the e n d of the season .
Track is anothe r of Go lden Hig_h ' s m a ny spring sports. This year ' s team , coached by Coach Bo o ton IS looking forwa r d to having a good season. Golden ' s twelve retu r ning l ette r men will carry a g oo d deal of
the load in trying to fulfill the te arn •s ambi tion to have a championship team. TI1e team IS well eq uipped with the ability t o succeed, and ,.,ith much training and hard ,.,ork they ,.,111 succeed.
CROSS ·-COU~TR Y
Spalding , Orosz, Jaenicke , Archuletta , Puryear , Bender, Schmidt , Swearinger.
Go lden h ad for the fi rst time as a fa ll spo r t a c r oss country r acing team This team , coached by Co a c h Boo t on ha d seve r a l meets with othe r schoo l s,
and did very wel l 1n them all. In a sp o r t such as this it is extremely necessary to t r ain and l<ee p in shape.
BASEBALL
Lewis, Walker, Richey, Peterson, Schu ltz, Pottinger, ~1cCracken , Mayberry, G. Mabb , Eaton, Archuletta, True Williams, Waters, :t-.laurer, l'v1c Ken dry. V. Mabb , Dulaigh, t-.lanchego
The coming of Sprtng spells "Baseball" at Golden High School. Seventeen boys ans,..,ered the call issued by Coach Bill Le,-.ris. Golden has six returning Lettermen , and a league championship is not out of the quesuon. The Demon team \'las one of the seven teams invited to the North High School Baseball Tournament to be he ld before regular season play. The boys are full of spint and drive and are expected to do ,-.rell in representing our great school.
Coach Darryl Hafling has four of his fi rst five Tennis Boys back from l ast year ' s team, These ,-.rell-experienced boys plus the twelve other boys on the team should be very tough in all of their matches. Because most of the Cent ral Suburban Schools do not have Tennis teams Golden will be playing most of their matches against schools of the Northern League. We are counting on these boys to do ,-.rell in representing Golden in both the Jefferson County Tournament and in the State Tournament to be held at Boulder.
