Heart of Golden - Latest Project Design
Heart of Golden Beats On
The Heart of Golden project kicked off when the City of Golden purchased 7.27 acres of land east of Ford Street along the Clear Creek Corridor in 2019. This land purchase now gives the Golden community the opportunity to address several longstanding community goals: Enhancing civic and cultural community activities, realizing the potential of the creek corridor, and consolidating and improving municipal facilities and service delivery.
When community members were asked what their dream corridor would look like – in surveys, community conversations, and over the period of 2020 and 2021 - the overwhelming main theme was centered around parks, green and open space, and keeping the Clear Creek corridor as the “Heart of Golden” – the center of the community. Other responses focused on a mixed-use of the space to include city buildings, open space, cultural centers and event space. A small handful of respondents mentioned priorities including parking, restaurants, community gardens, and housing.
The number one concern reported in our feedback was cost; both the cost to build new buildings and to repurpose the corridor. Other concerns cited included parking, overdevelopment, and a concern over losing green/open space.
The map you see today is the latest concept that reflects community feedback since 2019 on multiple design options. You can go online to guidinggolden.com/heartofgolden to share your feedback on this latest design, see all materials related to this project, and stay up to date on what’s next. The next meeting about the Heart of Golden project will take place the evening of Monday, April 25 in City Council Chambers.
Following an extensive public engagement process, City Council will consider adoption of a final plan in late Spring 2022, and begin to discuss implementation options.
