Teachers’ resource kits and workshops are available at no charge for many of the shows in the 2018 School Shows program. WEDNESDAY 14 MARCH 2018 AUSTRALIAN CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
THE LARK ASCENDING The fun and interactive concert for secondary students provides tools to understand and appreciate music. Specially created for schools, these vibrant performances introduce students to musical concepts by inviting them to explore and discover their own responses to the music. Starring ACO Collective’s Artistic Director, Pekka Kuusisto, the Orchestra will play the poignantly brilliant masterpiece, The Lark Ascending. Also in the program are two other English works: Henry Purcell’s Fantasia upon One Note, containing a middle voice that plays literally one note throughout, and Benjamin Britten’s Second String Quartet which was written to commemorate 250 years since Purcell’s death. To complement these performances, the ACO offers curriculum aligned resources including worksheets to be completed in class, and videos of the musicians discussing the music and specific listening points for students to focus on, these resources will become available shortly.

SATURDAY 12 MAY 2018 CO3 TOGETHER WITH THE FARM
FrankEnstein Frank could be a genius. Just one more ‘i’ and he’d be an Einstein! Frank’s a lonely guy who wants to make his imaginary friends real. Harnessing electricity from a storm he creates his world from nothing but his imagination and the garbage in his lab. Battling a physical impairment, Frank creates monsters to fulfill his desire to be normal and to be accepted by others. Can he control what he creates? And who is the real monster anyway? Frank Enstein is a retelling of the classic tale for children and adults – magical dance-theatre illuminating a path to selfacceptance. The Farm’s wicked sense of humour together with the extreme physicality of Co3 Australia’s dancers combines magic and dance to create a show for the child in all of us. This performance comes with teacher’s resources and workshops.

ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS
A CLOWN’S ODYSSEY An award winning autobiographical solo storytelling performance that mesmerises and packs an emotional punch! ‘Absolutely’ is a giant-hearted, laugh out-loud story of how an extreme introvert overcomes awkwardness to become a performer in Cirque du Soleil. Playful, touching and true! It journeys from loss, to hope, to finding a place to belong. From quirky loner, to teaching in regional WA, to accidentally discovering the joy of acting… The die is cast. Having sold out seasons at Fringe World, winning the WA Theatre Award (2015) and a highly acclaimed tour of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2014) ‘Absolutely’ is a must see performance! This performance comes with one free creative writing high school student workshop at the City Library during the Big Sky Readers & Writers Festival 2018.

THURSDAY 19 JULY 2018 shake & stir theatre co PRESENTS
Roald Dahl
GEORGE’S MARVELLOUS MEDICINE What starts as just another boring day for George quickly turns into a marvellous experiment of epic proportions! Cleverly adapted from the much-loved book by Roald Dahl, George’s Marvellous Medicine bounds off the page in a spectacular live show for the whole family. On a good day, George can’t stand his Grandma. She complains all the time, she’s mean and she smells funny. On this particular day, Grandma is much more annoying than usual and George has had enough. “George – make me a cup of tea! George – rub my feet! George – stop growing!” Ugh. Wanting to put an end to her constant nagging, George creates a special medicine, greater than any medicine in the history of the world. What he doesn’t expect is that this medicine may actually work – just not in the way he thinks... The award-winning team behind the multi-Helpmann Award nominated Australian production of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes & Dirty Beasts brings you this brand-new stage adaptation from the wacky mind of the World’s No. 1 Storyteller. Direct from a sold-out season at the Sydney Opera House, George’s Marvellous Medicine is packed to the rafters with mischief, music, magic and giant laughs. Just remember – do not try this at home! Adapted for the stage by shake & stir theatre co – who brought Animal Farm & Dracula to QPT – this 55 minutes performance comes with teachers’ resources and workshops.

A PRUDENT MAN
JOSEPHINE WANTS TO DANCE A story about dreams, believing in yourself ... and a dancing kangaroo. Josephine is a kangaroo – who loves to dance. Her little brother, Joey, tells her that kangaroos don’t dance, they hop – but Josephine continues to point her toes, and leap through the air. When a ballet troupe comes to the sleepy town of Shaggy Gully Josephine learns that there is another way to dance – ballet. As the ballet company prepares to perform, Josephine sneaks into town to peer through the window as the dancers rehearse, watching for hours and hours as they perfect their routine. Then Josephine goes home and practices all night, all alone, until she knows the dance by heart. She spun, she swirled and pirouetted dreams… and at the end she always curtsied. She desperately wanted to dance like the ballerinas in pink tutus and silk ballet shoes! Perfect for young audiences from 4 to 9 years and their families, brought to you by the team that created the award-winning Pete the Sheep, this hilarious new work by Monkey Baa brings to life a tale about a bush Kangaroo you’ll never forget!
A conservative politician, a leader, a man in a snappy suit, an athlete in a bad tracksuit – meet A Prudent Man. A well-groomed, confident-looking man enters the room and sits on a comfortable and expensive-looking leather chair. A bright light shines on him. There’s water and a glass on the table, but that’s all. Perhaps this is an investigation. What has he done wrong? Written and directed by Katy Warner, A Prudent Man is a darkly comedic political thriller exploring what it means to be right... in more ways than one. In a tour-deforce solo performance, Lyall Brooks embodies all the slogans, mannerisms and headlines of the word’s conservative politicians in a way that is so true to life it is unsettling. What makes the Trumps, the Abbotts and the Hansons of this world tick? What would happen if their world started to shift ever so slightly? This performance comes with a 3 hour Monologue Masterclass that is suitable for ATAR Drama and English students – 30 students max
This performance comes with teachers’ resources and teaching artists workshops.
