Talk About Greater Geraldton COUNCIL NEWS Council have been busy with last week's bumper agenda producing some positive outcomes. In great news, Geraldton has been selected as the site for one of two specially built Telethon Homes. Council unanimously approved a request by WA Country Builders to waive all applicable City fees associated with the construction of the 2018 Channel 7 Telethon Home. Located in Wandina, the home will be sold by public auction with all proceeds going to Princess Margaret Hospital for Children. The Stretch Reconciliation Plan 2017-2020 and the revised Welcome to Country Guide have also been acknowledged by Council last week. The Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan outlines
programs and projects that the City will undertake and the spelling of the word Yamaji has been amended to Yamatji in the Welcome to Country due to changes in boundaries/claims. The change is to reflect the spelling used by the current Native Title Groups. In other news, 150m of beach at Point Moore will be closed to vehicles to prevent degeneration of sand dunes and vegetation. A strategic review will take place in the 2018/19 financial year to assess the area and when or if it can re-open to vehicles. I am also keeping everyone up to date on council news with a Podcast from Hear Me Out Geraldton. You can check it out after every Council meeting via their website hmopodnetwork.com.au or you can download and listen on your mobile.
