Talk About Greater Geraldton COUNCIL NEWS The year is flying past and my, what a start to the year it has been! WoW Fest is already two weeks ago and we’re still reliving the awesomeness of it. A big thank you to all of our sponsors and everyone who went down to the Foreshore to join in on the celebrations!
Some of the findings from the review may mean ward boundaries are adjusted or abolished altogether. We hope at the end of the review we have a system that best represents our community’s interests, physical and topographical features, demographic trends and economic factors.
As most of you would have read by now, the City is undertaking a review of its current ward system and council representation.
Towards the end of June we will be holding a number of community information sessions in both Geraldton and Mullewa. Councillors represent the community so it’s important to come along and have your say!
The purpose of this review is to evaluate the City’s wards and potentially reduce or change the number of elected members.
The City is also kicking into a new gear to increase tourism in the region and put Geraldton on the map.
We have appointed a new Manager of Economic Development in Trish Palmonari, who many know from her time at the Mid West Development Commission. Part of Trish’s portfolio includes the Geraldton Visitor Centre, Corporate Communications and Economic Development. Over the next few months we will be rolling out a number of exciting new tourism elements that will bring more people to our vibrant regional city.

Ward system and Council under review Thought-provoking exhibitions on show Geraldton Regional Art Gallery have welcomed two new exhibitions that are bound to challenge perceptions. ART ON THE MOVE touring exhibition Dead Centre features a collection of photographic and video works that explore and celebrate marginalised identities in a multicultural Australian society. Stations of the Cross returns for another year and showcases various pieces, which offer unique and powerful interpretations on the meaning of Easter. Both exhibitions are on display until Saturday 16 June.
Over the coming months the City will be undertaking a review of its current ward system and council representation.
U-Turn Project makes stamp on Stirlings The City of Greater Geraldton's U-Turn Project has made yet another positive stamp in the CBD, with the latest being on show at Stirlings Central. The vibrant mural was designed by Mulla Mulla Designs and is based on the region's Rainbow Bee Eater, which feasts on bees and nests underground. With the help of participants from the U-Turn Project, the Stirlings Central water tank has been transformed into an uplifting and colourful space that has received lots of praise from the community! A big thank you to Stirlings Central for funding this project. Photo courtesy of Eco Abrolhos
Sunset Yoga changes
Geraldton tourism conference approaches
Winter is coming, which means the ever popular Sunset Yoga will now start at 5pm instead of 5.30pm every Wednesday at the Foreshore!
As a result of an initiative that was borne out of the City of Greater Geraldton’s Growth Plan and the Progress Midwest Tourism Cluster, Geraldton will play host to the region’s first Tourism Investment Summit on Sunday 27 and Monday 28 May at the Queens Park Theatre.
Sunset Yoga is free and is a great way to relax, reduce stress and focus on your physical, emotional and social health.
Growing Greater Geraldton Tourism provides an opportunity for industry, policy makers, regulators and funders to share information, understand the opportunities for success and help align on priorities for future industry development such as the Abrolhos Islands and Pink Lake.

Talk About Greater Geraldton May 2018
According to the Local Government Act 1995, all local governments with wards must carry out reviews of their ward boundaries and the number of Councillors for each ward at least once every eight years. The last time wards and representation were reviewed was prior to the amalgamation of the then City of Geraldton-Greenough with the Shire of Mullewa in 2011. More information about the review of the current ward system and council representation including a submission form is available on the City's website.
Thousands revel in WoW Fest success The City would like to thank everyone involved in the 2018 Wind on Water Festival! It was a massive weekend of celebrations that could not have happened without the support from our community and sponsors. Thank you, Geraldton!
