Talk About Greater Geraldton COUNCIL NEWS It’s been a big couple of weeks with some very welcome news for the City of Greater Geraldton. Firstly, I would like to congratulate Mr Ross McKim on being appointed as the City’s Chief Executive Officer. Mr McKim has been with the City for two years as our Director of Infrastructure and he has been acting in the position since the departure of former CEO Ken Diehm in June. With over 25 years of local government experience, Mr McKim has previously held leadership positions at Cairns, Redlands and Tablelands Regional Councils, where he was responsible for the delivery of a diverse range of local government services.

I would like to wish Mr McKim all the best and I look forward to working with him as we move forward.

This is just one step forward in bigger plans that we have for the Airport with the whole expansion set to cost $23 million.

In other news, the Geraldton Airport received a much needed financial boost with the announcement of $6.5 million in State Government funding.

With the City contributing a further $6.5 million, we will look to the Federal Government for $10 million in their next round of funding.

The funds will be put towards the renewal of the runway which was announced by Minister for Transport, Planning and Lands, Rita Saffioti. Not only will it continue to maintain our already established services to and from Geraldton but it will foster economic growth in various industries in the Midwest including tourism and export. The runway is well overdue for an upgrade as the last time it was paved was 1998 – nearly 20 years ago.

We're in this together

Get ready for chilled out vibes and an atmosphere like no other, as the popular Sundays by the Sea returns this October.

A fresh and engaging way to make positive change in the community is heading to Geraldton in the form of a workshop this month and will be delivered by lead consultant from the Bank of I.D.E.A.S, Peter Kenyon. As a social entrepreneur and community enthusiast, Peter is known for leading positive change initiatives and will facilitate the We’re in this Together workshop. We’re in this Together is a free event and will take place from 10.30am on Wednesday 6 September at the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre. The workshop will conclude at 4pm and be followed by a Networking Sundowner.

The City is seeking musicians and stallholders who can help make Sundays by the Sea a great success and encourages those who are interested to express their interest with the Arts & Cultural Development Officer via 9956 6968.

Midalia Beach reopens! One of the City’s most popular beaches has reopened to the public following the completion of coastal protection works to extend the groyne and breakwater. Works included an upgrade to the storm water outfall and the planting of more than 60,000 coastal seedlings to stabilise the dune system. Stage two of the project to enhance the area with landscaping and amenities will begin in early 2018.

The first event will be held on Sunday 8 October from 4.30pm to 7.30pm at Stow Gardens on the Geraldton Foreshore.
