City Hosts ARC Civic Dinner

Sponsored through the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), Civic Dinners are conversations initiated to center on meaningful discussions about issues that matter to our future. The ARC is the regional planning agency for the 10-county Atlanta area. ARC helps to focus the region’s attention and resources on critical topics. On November 8, the City of Jonesboro hosted a Civic Dinner conversation on Arts and Culture efforts. The Atlanta region is home to theaters, musicians, symphonies and dance groups. Public art is showing up on walls, plazas, and beyond. Georgia is the most popular filming location in the U.S. By supporting the arts and applying the creative skills of the arts community to issues facing our region, we can insure success and celebrate the people and cultures that make our region unique. Dinner conversation centered on the role of Arts and Culture in the future of Jonesboro as well as in the Atlanta region. The dinner was held at the Greenhouse on College Street. Special thanks to Richard Bell and Ricky Clark who hosted.

SCARECROW WINNERS Thanks to all entrants!

Visit today! (Special Holiday prices) What is Happening with the Broad Street Project? The Broad Street Project, located between West Mill and Church Streets just behind “lawyer’s row” is moving steadily along. Two construction companies pre-qualified to bid on the project and preliminary bids were received. The City’s plan is to repurpose the Firehouse building, add a City Green, place utilities underground, and effect a redesigned streetscape. The firehouse is slated to become a three-restaurant concept with a micro-brewery; a tenant has already committed, and plans for the commercial kitchen have been finalized. The building will have outside sitting areas on both the front and the back, overlooking the City Green. Groundbreaking on the 8-9 month project is slated for early 2019.
