JONESBORO RECEIVES MAIN STREET AWARD
The City of Jonesboro has been awarded a 2019 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $285,500.00 for use in the Downtown area. The grant, written and submitted by Mayor Joy B. Day, is planned to enlarge the downtown sidewalk fronting businesses in the main corridor. The redesign and expansion of the area will provide additional room for foot traffic as well as sidewalk cafes and other seating in the downtown district. The project will begin in Fall 2019. In 2018, the City also received a grant proposed by Mayor Day in the amount of $594,462.00 for the Broad Street Project, slated to break ground in August 2019. The Broad Street Project will include a new Streetscape, seating areas, a City Green, a small stage area, a three station restaurant and brew pub. Previous CDBG and DOT grants secured by Mayor Day have included the Fayetteville Road Sidewalk Projects (3), Streetscapes I and II, the North Avenue to Tara project, and the Broad Street Demolition. Thank you, CDBG and Clayton County Community Development.
The Georgia Main Street Program has awarded the City of Jonesboro its Main Street of the Month recognition for June 2019. The project’s goal is to provide economic stability for downtown Jonesboro while creating a vibrant streetscape for residents and visitors. Since the Jonesboro Main Street was founded in 2017 and accredited in 2018, the program has raised over $100,000 in memberships and fundraising, with over 160 members. The City estimates public and private investments in Main Street Jonesboro at about $9.91 million thus far. Jonesboro Main Street projects include food truck court, seasonal street banners, planters, festivals, a property purchase for a small business accelerator, and the new Arts & Entertainment District. We appreciate all of our Friends of Main Street. Please consider joining us today. Call City Hall for more information. Special Concert:
