Jonesboro Majestic Marching Cardinals Headed to Chicago Jonesboro High School Band Cardinals, under the direction of Mr. Lynel Goodwin, have been invited and will participate in the 2019 Chicago Thanksgiving Parade on November 29, 2019. The Majestic Marching Cardinals will be marching down State Street on Thanksgiving in front of a record crowd as well as an audience of people watching at home. The Thanksgiving Parade is Chicago's grand holiday tradition, which is produced and presented by the Chicago Festival Association. The parade is held on Thanksgiving Day in Downtown Chicago, and runs from 8 am until 11 am. It is broadcast live on WGN-TV and nationwide on the WGN America cable network. Mr. Goodwin said, “We take seriously our job as ambassadors of the great City of Jonesboro as well as the Clayton County School District.” Felicia Brown is the Principal at Jonesboro High School. After each decades CENSUS state officials redraw the boundaries of the congressional and state legislative districts in their states to account for population shifts. It’s in the Constitution. The U.S. Constitution mandates that everyone in the country be counted every 10 years. The first CENSUS was in 1790.

VETERANS UNITED AFTER 70 YEARS Clover Jones and Choice Stewart (both deceased) entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1941, attended Boot Camp together, and were on the same ship heading into combat during WWII. During the 70 ensuing years, their paths never crossed. Both men were Masons, Mr. Stewart a 50-year member of the Jonesboro Lodge. In 2011, Sam Waldrip, of Jonesboro First Baptist Church, was instrumental in reuniting the two heroes. Jeff Salter, Master at the Lodge, is pictured. God bless our veterans! Sterling is a Cinema & Media Arts Production (CMAP) major with an expected graduation in Spring 2020. He is a lifelong resident of Jonesboro and Clayton County, an alumni of Suder Elementary, M.D. Roberts Middle, and a graduate of Jonesboro High School. His parents are Jerry & Miriam Graham, owners of Final Touch Frame Shop in Historic Jonesboro. Congratulations, Sterling!

-RACHEL EVE HOLMESRachel Eve Holmes, daughter of Jonesboro residents Bryan and Dana Holmes, is an American soprano, recently described as “expressive and subtle, with a stunning instrument.” (Capital Times). A Jonesboro, Georgia native, Ms. Holmes’ performing career has taken her to Belgium, China, Italy, Austria, Canada and the Czech Republic, as well as all over the United States. She has performed over thirty leading operatic roles. A highly decorated soprano, she is the winner of the 2018 Concert Artists International Virtuoso Competition, as well as many other vocal competitions. Ms. Holmes went to Jonesboro High School, earned her Bachelor of Music from New England Conservatory of Music, her Master of Music from Colorado State University, and her Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Georgia. Thank you, Rachel Holmes, for making Jonesboro proud and best wishes on your continuing illustrious operatic career!
