JONESBORO LIBRARY REMAINS CLOSED City residents and others with the 30236 zip code have waited over a year for the Jonesboro Library to reopen. It was closed due to HVAC problems and has remained closed. Do you miss the library and its services? Jonesboro Library has stood at the corner of Lee Street and Smith Street for over 50 years...every other community in Clayton County has a viable library except Jonesboro! For Jonesboro, the Library is a place for students to do research, use the computer, and gather books and other materials after school. Our senior citizens rely on the library for reserved books. The Jonesboro Library is a much used resource in our City. If you miss the library and think EVERY Community needs a library, a source of knowledge, an opportunity for young and old, please voice your concerns to our County Commissioners. Our District Commissioner is Demont Davis (770) 477-3216. Commission Chair is Jeffrey Turner. For a full listing of commissioners, see www.claytoncountyga.gov.

PLEASE AVOID BURNING LEAVES AND TRASH IN THE CITY Burning pollutes the neighborhood and is dangerous for the elderly and those with allergies. We ask that you pile leaves by the curb away from the street, and we will pick

them up. Thanks!

Jonesboro City Manager, Ricky L. Clark, Jr. received the prestigious Certificate of Recognition from the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute during the Georgia Municipal Association’s (GMA) Annual Convention in Savannah on Aug. 9. The Institute is a cooperative effort of GMA and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government. To receive a Certificate of Recognition, a city official must complete a minimum of 42 units of credit, including at least 18 hours from a list of required classes. “This is an outstanding achievement,” said GMA Executive Director Larry Hanson. “We commend City Manager Clark for this accomplishment and for the dedication he’s shown in using this valuable resource to become a more effective city official.” Congratulations, Mr. Clark! GUEST COLUMNIST Tommy Dupuis My first job after returning from the Army (Vietnam)

I worked for a seismograph crew in the swamps of South Louisiana. Dynamite below ground was detoand nated. The seismic waves returning City of Jonesboro, Ga Police to the surface were measured. From Department this a determination of possible oil See you on FACEBOOK! and gas reservoirs was made. Around Shreiver, LA there were so many water moccasins MARK YOUR it was unbelievable. I had about 40 pounds of cable coiled CALENDAR around my neck walking in chest deep water laying it out. NOW… Someone had to walk ahead of me with a big stick to ward Jonesboro off snakes that were literally every 15 to 20 feet away. God Christmas Parade forbid that you stepped off into a hole. After that it was to Saturday, December 4 the marshes out of Grand Chenier. We were working off of Family Christmas Tree a marsh buggy, and crawfish were everywhere. As we Lighting / Music/ Food/ San- rolled along we could see nothing but dollar signs...just a net was all we needed. This is where I got a toenail fungus ta Claus/to follow the in my big toe that persists to this day. I was on the very Parade at Lee Street Park Robert Samples back, and the buggy took off quickly. It had huge tracks on it like tank tracks. I was going off the back directly onto the WELCOME NEW BUSINESSES! tracks. I pushed off with one foot and did a back flip just Main Street Grocery Mart 281 N. Main Street barely missing the tracks. I sunk about two feet in the marsh Total Lifestyle Change, Inc. 177 N. Please pile leaves BESIDE the curb, away from the edge, not too near the street. Leaves in the street fall into catch basins and clog our waterways and drainage systems. We will vacuum them up….Thanks, Public Works.
