Remembering Dean’s Barbecue

Dean’s Barbecue founders Jessie & Essie Dean Dean’s was a family owned business in Jonesboro for almost 70 years! In their heyday, Dean’s would go through 75-80 hams per week. PORK was the only game in town! Dean’s was known for their Brunswick Stew, great hand-chopped BBQ pork sandwiches, BBQ plates and BBQ by the pound for purchase– all cook over an open pit. Dean’s famous sauce (family recipe) was the big draw and one of it’s biggest fans was Truett Cathy of Chick-fil-A fame. Mr. Cathy started frequenting Dean’s in the 1940s! Roger, Chris, Barbara, Jane, and Mike, among other family members worked at Dean’s over the years. Customers came from far and wide to taste Dean’s BBQ. Sadly, Dean’s closed its doors for good in 2017.
