Registration Deadlines Each program has a minimum number of required participants. If that minimum is not reached by the registration deadline, the course will be cancelled. The deadline for monthly courses is 5 days prior to the start of the course. All athletic leagues have listed registration deadlines.

Inclement Weather Policy During inclement weather that creates dangerous or hazardous conditions, the Lancaster Parks & Recreation Department will post updates on the activity hotline. Temporary field closures due to weather will only be listed on this hotline. Multi-day facility closures due to ongoing weather conditions will also be posted on the electronic marquees and the city website. The department will work with rental groups on a caseby-case basis, but reserves the right to cancel a rental reservation if the facility cannot be safely accessed per the terms of the rental contract. In all cases, course participants are requested not to participate in any recreation activity that they consider dangerous or unsafe for any reason, including weather. Activity Hotline: 972-218-5559

Throughout the program guide you will notice that many items have different fees for City of Lancaster residents and non-residents. The Parks and Recreation Department is an agency of the City of Lancaster and receives municipal tax revenue paid by residents living inside the corporate limits of the city. Those who live outside the city are charged a higher rate because they do not pay City of Lancaster taxes. You must live inside the corporate limits of Lancaster at the time of the Recreation ID Card purchase or facility reservation in order to be charged the resident rate. All others will be charged the non-resident rate. You may show proof of residency with a government-issued photo ID, or any other photo ID with water bill.

Refund Policy For all programs, classes and athletic leagues, a 100% refund will be issued if the program is cancelled by the Parks & Recreation Department. Courses may be cancelled if they do not meet minimum registration by the deadline. All refund requests received prior to the start of the course are entitled to a full refund. No refunds will be issued for requests received after the start of the course; however, the funds may be credited to your account if no more than 25% of the course has been completed. Requests for refunds based on family emergency or medical hardship will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. If the original payment was made by debit/credit card, the refund will be placed on the same card. If the original payment was made by cash or money order, the refund will be issued by check and may take up to 14 days.

About the Park Bear Creek Nature Park is a great place to bring the family, relax and enjoy the beauty Lancaster has to offer! The park includes 189 acres of rolling, wooded terrain, graced with ponds, creeks and natural trails. It provides the opportunity for fishing, hiking, horseback riding, nature photography and wildlife viewing. The creek is fed by a natural spring, as well as two ponds. Water remains in one of these ponds year-round, where a healthy fish population has been established through catch and release fishing policies. A crushed granite trail encircles the main pond. This trail is handicapped accessible and features several benches and shade trees. Bear Creek Nature Park offers area riders a rare treat via two miles of equestrian trails. The trails cross through grassland prairies, cedar groves and woodlands. All riders are required to purchase a permit to ride the trails. Permits may be obtained at the Recreation Center from 8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday. A negative coggins is required at the time of permit purchase. Additional amenities at the park include a large pavilion and outdoor classroom. The pavilion is available for rent and holds up to 90 people. It features multiple picnic tables and is next to a shaded area ideal for outdoor games. The outdoor classroom is available at no charge when classes are not being held. The benches were crafted from trees on the property, and the large area shade trees provide an excellent area for lectures and interactive nature experiences.
