8th Annual Breakfast with Santa Celebration of Lights Saturday, December 13, 2014 8:00am - 11:00am at the Lathrop Community Center Celebrate the Christmas Holiday Season with Santa and his Elves! Enjoy a hot breakfast of pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage with fresh orange juice or hot chocolate! This fantastic breakfast will also include a picture of Santa with your kids. KinderCamp KinderCamp is designed for children enrolled in morning kindergarten. This program will consist of age appropriate activities and games and offer a healthy snack. Hours are 1:00pm - 3:00pm. Come Join “Chip” (Children Helping In Program) Kid Club presents a unique program for children in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. This program is designed for the participant to work with staff and learn the job duties related to Kid Club. The objective of this program is to offer children job skills that will last throughout their lives. This program is offered at all three sites. Fees: $2.50 per hour

Youth Scholarship Program

Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be a Lathrop resident. Families receiving a Public Assistance Grant (ADFC or General Assistance) will automatically qualify for financial assistance. Current income verification from your case worker must accompany the application. Families not receiving public assistance must show proof that the family income is at or below the current HUD guidelines. Proof of yearly income can be verified in one or a combination of the following methods: 3 current paycheck stubs, 3 unemployment check stubs, workers compensation payment verification, social security income verification, last year’s Form 1040 tax return, or state disability verification. Free Snack Program

A free snack program is offered at the Lathrop Community Center each weekday throughout the year. Any child ages two (2) to eighteen (18) may eat free at this state funded snack program. Snack is served from 3:15pm until 3:45pm. You do not have to be part of any Lathrop Parks & Recreation Program to participate in this program. It is open to the whole community. Snacks are not served on weekends or holidays. September - December 2014

MMA For Kids

MMA for Kids (Mixed Martial Arts) Long before “UFC Style Competition” a man named Bruce Lee dedicated his life to the concept of Mixed Martial Arts for self defense. Our Mixed Martial Arts program teaches effective self defense along with important life skills. Students learn to handle conflict responsibly and meet challenges with confidence and focus. Run, jump, roll, kick, punch, and more in this exciting high energy workout. Classes held on Tuesday at the Scott Brooks Gym. Classes are based on a calendar month. Teen Open Gym The Lathrop Community Center Teen Open Gym is the 1st & 3rd Fridays of each month. The schedule includes open gym and other teen activities. Hot food and cold drinks may be sold at teen programs to raise funds for teen activities. Teen Open Gym events are directed by Parks & Recreation staff. Pee Wee Football Lathrop Tennis Program with Future Stars 2000’s Tiny Tot & Youth Tennis Classes Our tennis program is managed by Lance Turner and Future Stars 2000’s. Future Stars 2000’s began as a small tennis program founded by Lance Turner in just three cities: Stockton, Lodi, and Manteca. In 1995, Future Stars incorporated as a non-profit public service 501c3 organization. The mission of Futures Stars 2000’s is to promote and grow the game of tennis in Northern California. Future Stars 2000’s has Junior Wilson tennis racquets for sale - $20 each.

Tiny Tots Tennis Open to children ages 4 - 7. Tiny Tots Tennis class is a great introduction into the game of tennis. This class will introduce the basics of tennis to children, including tennis swing footwork, and serve. Students are expected to provide their own tennis racquet, and also to wear appropriate footwear and clothing. Tennis balls will be provided. Junior Excellence/Adult Tennis

This class is open to participants between 12 to adult. Students must have knowledge of tennis strokes and the ability to execute them. High school students are encouraged to participate. Students are accepted at the discretion of the instructor. Students are expected to provide their own tennis racquet, and also to wear appropriate footwear and clothing. Tennis balls will be provided. Youth Football Registration: Taking registrations until September 5. Designed for 3rd through 8th grades, this league will determine teams by age and skill evaluation. Volunteer coaches will be used. All participants will receive a T-shirt and a trophy. Start Smart Football Start Smart Football is a parent-child participation program for young children, ages 3 - 5. This program teaches children the necessary football skills to prepare them for organized football. Each week the child will work on throwing, catching, kicking/punting, and running/agility, that becomes increasingly more difficult as the class progresses and children show improvement. Each participant receives: 1 football, 1 red or yellow flag belt, 4 cones, 1 kicking tee and 1 participant manual (included in the $36 fee). Start Smart Basketball Start Smart Basketball teaches children (ages 3 - 5) the basic motor skills necessary to play organized basketball while they work one-on one and spend quality time with their parents. Lathrop Generations Center – Teen Membership The City of Lathrop Parks & Recreation Department invites teens ages 12-17 to visit the Lathrop Generations Center at 450 Spartan Way in Lathrop (across from Lathrop High School). Teen Center Membership applications are now available! Membership to the Teen Center is only $24 a year (prorated $2 ever month for those who join after July of each year). The Lathrop Generations Center offers a variety of amenities for teens including flat screen t.v.s, PS4, Nintendo Wii U, a pool table, ping pong table and more to come! There is plenty of space to work on homework as well as computers to help with research. The facility also has free WiFi! Don’t forget the awesome snack bar filled with tons of treats to keep you energized throughout the day. Outside amenities include a 12,000 square foot custom state-of-the-art concrete skate park. The design includes a street plaza section, an original design flow-bowl, a grom-bowl and numerous elements such as railings, stairs, ledges, curbs and ramps. Free Self Defense & Anti-Bullying Workshop

We believe physical defense is your last resort. Learning physical self defense helps most children become more confident, even if they never have to use these skills in a real-life situation. Just being more confident helps children to avoid being chosen as a victim most of the time. Senior Brown Bag Brown Bag is a food distribution program for seniors 60 years and older. There are some income restrictions and participants may sign-up at the senior center the day of the distribution. Mobile Farmers Market The “Nutrition on the Move Program” is a farmer’s market on wheels. This program distributes healthy nutritional items, particularly fresh fruits and vegetables, and nutrition information. Senior Lunch Program

A nutritious lunch is served daily at the Lathrop Senior Center at 11:30am. You must sign up at least 24 hours in advance by coming in or calling the Senior Center by noon at (209) 941-7380. A calendar with the menu for the month is available at the Senior Center.

Computer Lessons

Come join us at the Senior Center for our one-on-one computer class on our state of the art computers. You can call to arrange an appointment or drop in and get the help that you need. No appointment necessary, just sign-in and wait your turn between the hours of 1:00pm to 2:30pm at the Lathrop Senior Center. The class is geared towards the specific needs of the student. Instructors Wanted!

The City of Lathrop Parks & Recreation Department is looking for people interested in teaching classes and mini-classes to youth, teens and adults. Creative people willing to share their hobbies, interests, skills and talents are encouraged to design either short workshops or 4 to 8 week programs of recreational and educational interest. A class description and outline should be submitted, along with a City volunteer application, to the City of Lathrop Parks and Recreation Department, 15557 Fifth Street, Lathrop, CA. Coaches Wanted

The City of Lathrop, Parks & Recreation is seeking people interested in coaching children ranging in ages 4 - 13 years old. These programs are instructional and teach basic fundamentals. The Pee Wee Leagues (4 - 7 years) consists of Flag Football, Basketball, Soccer and T-Ball. The Youth Leagues (8 - 13 years) are Flag Football, Basketball and Soccer. Teen Volunteers Needed!

We are looking for teens interested in helping to plan teen activities and events at the new Lathrop Generations Center. Here is your opportunity to build great trips, classes and events! Help YAC commissioners and LGC teen staff plan dances, sports, while you earn community service credit.

The City of Lathrop parks may be reserved for picnics. Reservations should be made in advance to insure the date you are requesting. Reservation fees vary depending upon the site capacity of the picnic shelter and/or open space. Payment in full is due on the day the reservation is made. Inflatable bounce houses are only allowed in designated areas and require a generator and liability insurance. You may not have a bounce house at any of our parks without a park reservation. The sports fields are available for reservations. Fields can be used for a variety of sports. You need to have September - December 2014


a permit in order to use the field for any type of organized game or practice. Fees and deposits vary depending on the applicant. For more information, please contact Parks & Recreation staff at (209) 941-7370.

3. All instructors are contractors and not City of Lathrop employees. All contractors have the option to use assistants or sub-contractors to teach the class.

Class Information

5. Please encourage your child to use the restroom before class begins. Instructors cannot leave the class to escort a child to the restroom.

Please review the following guidelines for participation in Parks & Recreation classes: 1. Parents should escort each child to class and remain until the instructor arrives. Parents are responsible for their child until class begins. 2. No childcare is provided prior to, or after class. Please arrive early, to pick up your child.

4. Do not purchase any required supplies or attire until after the first day of class.

6. Instructors have the option of allowing parents to remain in the class or to ask them to leave while class is in session. 7. Please enroll only in classes appropriate for your child’s age. Exceptions based on skill level must be pre-approved by the instructor and the City of Lathrop Parks & Recreation Department.
