2 CITY OF LATHROP WINTER ACTIVITY GUIDE

January - April 2015

A LETTER FROM THE PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR

H

ello my name is Zach Jones! As the newly hired Director of Parks and Recreation I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I have worked in the field of parks and recreation for more than 30 years and have worked for the City of Sacramento

as well as the Elk Grove/Cosumnes Community Services District. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from California State University, Sacramento in Recreation Administration and am looking forward to bringing my experience to serve the people of Lathrop. The City Of Lathrop is a community with a population of just over 19,000. The Parks & Recreation Department offers classes and programs for all ages such as summer day camps, after-school programs, lifelong learning, sports and senior activities. As our community is growing, we anticipate adding additional programming to serve the residents of Lathrop.

2014 has been an exciting year for the City of Lathrop! In June the City opened the Lathrop Generations Center to the public. This facility includes a teen center, library, meeting room, multi-purpose room and computer room for the public. Amenities on the property also include a basketball court, a playground, community garden, outdoor amphitheater, and state of the art skate park and parkour course. In November the City, in partnership with the River Islands Development, LLC., celebrated the opening of Michael W. Vega Park, the first park site within the newly forming River Islands Community and the excitement is building to see what is in store as we enter 2015! As your new Parks and Recreation Director, I look forward to getting to know the people of the City of Lathrop. Hopefully I will see you at one of our upcoming events such as the Teen Art Show in February, the Spring Fun Day & Giant Easter Egg Hunt in March, or as a participant in the Lathrop Beautification & Earth Day Celebration in April. As a lifelong supporter of park and recreation, I truly believe that Parks Make Life Better and challenge you all to get outside and visit a local community park. Parks provide us all the ability to access the serenity and inspiration of nature, a place to play and exercise alone or as part of a group. Parks provide a place for productive and positive activities that facilitate social interaction and build stronger communities. So join me in making our community a stronger, healthier place to live and VISIT A PARK! Zach Jones Director of Parks and Recreation City of Lathrop
