It’s easy to see why with our diverse and innovative restaurants and cafes offering everything from street food to five-star menus. If it’s retail therapy you’re after, you have also come to the right place. Melbourne’s shopping scene is thriving with the opening of H&M at the GPO, The Strand and Emporium, which offers the largest cluster of Australian designer stores under one roof on level 2. Melbourne boasts an exciting events calendar in the colder months. There’s the Melbourne International Film Festival, Friday fireworks at Docklands and our successful Melbourne Winter Masterpieces, including the David Bowie is exhibition at ACMI. For sporting fans, AFL and NRL matches are played every weekend during winter in our city.

CR BEVERLEY PINDER-MORTIMER The Docklands waterfront precinct is bursting with events, roving performances and games this winter. Get tempted by the Melt Away Chocolate Festival, as well as a range of cool activities for families, including ice skating at Medibank Icehouse, and spectacular fireworks displays every Friday night in July and August. With its peaceful waterfront, parks, restaurants and shops, Docklands has everything for a family outing. So throw on a scarf and enjoy our waterfront winter wonderland.

Parking The city has more than 70,000 car spaces. MAJOR EVENTS David Bowie is 16 July–1 November ACMI, Federation Square, city Celebrate the 50-year career of one of pop culture’s most enduring icons in this exclusive Melbourne event. An immersive, multimedia exhibition from London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, David Bowie is traces the artist’s influence across fashion, music, art and performance through costumes, original stage set designs, album artwork, rare film, video and photographs and more.
