Cecchetti-based terminology, stretching, conditioning and choreography will be taught during class lessons. Appropriate dance clothing and ballet shoes are required.

Water Babies

This parent-assisted program helps small children become accustomed to the water while in the familiar hands of a parent. Ages 6 months-2 years old.

Tiny Tots

Certified American Red Cross instruction begins with basic physical and mental adjustment to the water. Participants are taught basic safety and water skills using play as the primary form of teaching. This class does not teach children to be accomplished swimmers, but develops a comfort in the water. Ages 3-5 years old.

Learn to Swim

Students will be introduced to the fundamentals and techniques of basic swimming. Advanced students will refine the skills presented in previous lessons.

This course is broken out into six levels of progressive instruction. Ages six years and up with an eight student-to-instructor ratio.

Water Fitness

Buoyancy takes the impact off leg joints allowing exercises to improve muscular strength, balance and fitness levels. Get high-impact results from a low-impact water workout. No swimming skills are required.

Adult Swim Clinic

Participants must be 15 years of age or older.

Instructors work with participants to identify goals for success and design the course for goal completion.

Open Swim

Bring the kids and splash around in the pool at Open Swim.

Tot Swim

The training pool (tot pool) is now available for children 8 and under to come enjoy. Open several days a week, bring your younger children out for a swim. Tot Swim is for children with an accompanying adult and in the tot pool only.

Lifeguard Classes

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding trains lifeguards to act with speed and confidence in emergency situations both in and out of the water. Core content includes: Water rescue skills, surveillance and recognition, First Aid, CPR and AED, and breathing and cardiac emergencies. Participants are required to pass a pre-course swimming test and in order to earn a certification, must attend all courses, pass a written exam with an 80% or better, and pass a practical skills test. An e-book or printed version is available.

Private Swim Lessons

Private Lessons taught by Red Cross Certified WSI Instructors are available. Whether you need to improve your stroke or are completely afraid of the water, we can help you. Private lessons are 30 minutes and cost $30 for one student. Semi-private lessons available for 2-3 students at $55. Call Northwest Pool to schedule a lesson at 334-2203.

Adaptive Equipment Rental Program

Our adaptive recreation equipment is available to rent (sport wheelchairs, beach wheelchairs, hand cycles, etc.). Renting makes it affordable for participants to try before they buy. Be a weekend warrior, gain skills and be involved in more than one sport.

Access for All

Providing accommodations to those with disabilities to participate in leisure and recreation programs, classes, and services.

To participate in a program, contact Inclusion Services with a minimum of five business days prior to the program. Hearing impaired individuals can use Nevada Relay by dialing 711 for assistance.

Out and About

The Out and About community program is geared for young adults 15 years and up with disabilities and their caregivers/companions.

Paralympic Sport Reno is a community-based sports club developed to involve youth and adults with a physical and/or visual disabilities.

Wheelchair Rugby Practices EMNECC

Wheelchair or quad rugby is a fast-paced and competitive sport for people with physical disabilities that affect all four extremities.

Players use special “rugby wheelchairs” to play the sport that are very maneuverable.

Rugby players must be able to push their own wheelchairs.

Veteran Programs

R4 Alliance R4 Alliance is a membership of nationally recognized programs of excellence that provide therapeutic and community-based recreation services to veterans and their family members. The City of Reno is honored to be recognized for providing the first municipal program to be invited into their membership.

Project HERO City of Reno Project HERO (Healing Exercise Rehabilitation Opportunity) provides training and supports cycling programs at military hospitals, Army Transition Units, Marine Wounded Warrior Units and Veterans Affairs locations to help healing heroes overcome obstacles they face. Project HERO has proven the effectiveness of group riding in the rehabilitation of injured servicemen and women. Find us on Facebook - Project HERO City of Reno.

Fit But Not Forgotten The Fit But Not Forgotten program offers weekly fitness classes in our facility weight room. Classes will cover orientation to equipment, fitness level assessment, strength development techniques, endurance and flexibility and fitness goal discussion. Upon completion of four classes participants will be eligible for a free all-inclusive one year facility membership. This program is funded from a grant provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Adaptive Sports Grant.

The Spanish-style architecture, reminiscent of the early California missions, distinguishes this popular facility which hosts numerous cultural and special events. Includes use of entire facility, kitchen, restrooms, twenty 6’ rectangular tables, twenty 5’ round tables, 250 folding metal chairs, alcohol permit and patio.

This 1910 historic building provides arts and craft workshops for local nonprofit art organizations. Part of the Truckee River Arts and Culture district, rooms are available for rent by tenants and outside culture groups. Includes use of auditorium, stage, restrooms, foyer, twenty 6’ rectangular tables, twenty 5’ round tables, 160 chairs, kitchen and courtyard.

Sports rental only. Hardwood court for basketball (six hoops) or volleyball with bleacher seating.

Tables and chairs are not available. Food and drinks are not allowed in the gym.

The Arts, Culture and Events office works to market the City’s cultural assets to a worldwide audience and to promote highquality, free and affordable cultural programs for residents and visitors.

A special event permit is required for the following: (1) Any planned gathering of 75 or more people for purposes of assembling or traveling in an organized manner on any street, park or other public property; or (2) Any planned activity conducted by a person for a common or collective use, purpose or benefit which directly or indirectly involves the use of, and has an impact on, city street(s), park(s) or other public property or facilities which reasonably requires city management, regulation or resources to protect the health, safety, welfare or property of the city or its residents, coordinate multiple uses of public property, control traffic or address other substantial governmental interests at or around the activity.

Examples of special events include, but are not limited to: (a) Parades; (b) Street fairs and festivals; (c) Live commercial music events; (d) Athletic or sporting events (e.g., races, runs); (e) Circuses and carnivals; (f) Community celebrations and observances; (g) Commercial shows, trade shows, and business promotions; (h) Commercial, promotional or fundraising activities.
