Parks are at the core of Reno’s outdoor recreational activities. The City strives for everyone to have easy access to parks and recreation opportunities in sustainable communities. In Reno, parks and recreation enhance the quality of life for all people and we are dedicated to providing the services you’ll find in this brochure.

July is recognized as Parks and Recreation Month. We would challenge everyone in Reno to spend time at one of our facilities or parks. Whether at a summer camp, an adult sports league, swimming at Idlewild Pool, Zumba class, enjoying a family picnic, or discovering nature — parks and play go hand in hand. This parent-assisted program helps small children become accustomed to the water while in the familiar hands of a parent. Ages 6 months-2 years old.

Lap Swim offers individual lap lanes intended for exercise inclusive to any age and all skill levels. Lap swimmers are welcome to use any available equipment offered at each aquatics facility. Lap lanes may be limited; participants are encouraged to practice proper lane etiquette.

TINY TOTS Idlewild Pool | Northwest Pool Certified American Red Cross instruction begins with basic physical and mental adjustment, basic safety and water skills using play as the primary form of teaching.

This class does not teach children to be accomplished swimmers, but develops a comfort in the water. Ages 3-5 years old.

LEARN TO SWIM Idlewild Pool | Northwest Pool Students will be introduced to the fundamentals and techniques of basic swimming. Advanced students will refine the skills presented in previous lessons.

This course is broken out into six levels of progressive instruction. Ages six years and up with an eight student-to-instructor ratio.

WATER FITNESS Northwest Pool Buoyancy takes the impact off leg joints allowing exercises to improve muscular strength, balance and fitness levels. Get high-impact results from a low-impact water workout. No swimming skills are required.

MCKINLEY ARTS AND CULTURE CENTER | MACC 925 Riverside Dr. | 334-2417 This 1910 historic building provides arts and craft workshops for local nonprofit art organizations. Part of the Truckee River Arts and Culture district, rooms are available for rent by tenants and outside culture groups.

Options include use of auditorium, stage, restrooms, foyer, twenty 6’ rectangular tables, twenty 5’ round tables, 160 chairs, kitchen and courtyard. Tables and chairs are indoor use only.

Rental Fees: • Auditorium-rehearsal: $50/hr • Auditorium-performance: $75/hr • Auditorium-other use: $100/hr • Boardroom: $50/hr Wedding/Party Package: $800 for eight hours, includes auditorium, stage, restrooms, foyer, kitchen and courtyard. Requirement: $1,000 refundable security deposit.

NEIL ROAD RECREATION CENTER | NRRC 3925 Neil Rd. | 689-8484 The center is located in a campus-like setting with a rentable shelter at Miguel Ribera Park and can be rented in conjunction with the building for an additional fee. Includes 6’ rectangular tables and folding chairs for indoor use.

PLUMAS GYM 475 Monroe St. | 334-2262 Sports rental only. Hardwood court for basketball (six hoops) or volleyball with bleacher seating. Tables and chairs are not available. Food and drinks are not allowed in the gym.

SOUTHSIDE CULTURAL CENTER 190 E. Liberty St. | 334-2417 Former Southside School includes an auditorium for rehearsals, performances, lectures, concerts and special events. Options include ten 6’ regtangular tables, ten 5’ round tables and 80 chairs for indoor use.

TEGLIA’S PARADISE PARK ACTIVITY CENTER | TPPAC 2745 Elementary Dr. | 356-3176 Situated near the Paradise Park pond, this facility has acres of open space, a community garden, play areas and walking trails. Includes a kitchen, large multi-purpose room, 5’ round tables, 6’ rectangular tables and 100 folding chairs for indoor use.

The Arts, Culture and Events office works to market the City’s cultural assets to a worldwide audience and to promote high-quality, free and affordable cultural programs for residents and visitors.

A special event permit is required for the following: (1) Any planned gathering of 75 or more people for purposes of assembling or traveling in an organized manner on any street, park or other public property; or (2) Any planned activity conducted by a person for a common or collective use, purpose or benefit which directly or indirectly involves the use of, and has an impact on, city street(s), park(s) or other public property or facilities which reasonably requires city management, regulation or resources to protect the health, safety, welfare or property of the city or its residents, coordinate multiple uses of public property, control traffic or address other substantial governmental interests at or around the activity.

Examples of special events include, but are not limited to: (a) Parades (b) Street fairs and festivals (c) Live commercial music events (d) Athletic or sporting events (e.g., races, runs) (e) Circuses and carnivals (f) Community celebrations and observances (g) Commercial shows, trade shows, and business promotions (h) Commercial, promotional or fundraising activities.
