Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are a vital part of the City of Reno Inclusion/ Adaptive Recreation program. Volunteers will gain rewarding experiences through assisting Parks and Recreation staff with a variety of programs or providing additional support for participants. We are currently seeking volunteers for our upcoming programs!
ADAPTIVE CYCLING CENTER OPENS FOR THE SEASON
The City of Reno is excited to kick off the Adaptive Cycling Center season May 4th!
The center offers a membership-based program that allows persons with disabilities to access our many adaptive bikes and jump directly on the trail, no bike transport needed.
Join us for our season kickoff with FREE Adaptive Bike Use, Vendors, Bike Rodeo, and a Nature Hike with Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation and David’s Chair.

SPORT
WHEELCHAIR RUGBY
Thursdays 2 - 5 p.m. $50

Wheelchair Rugby is a fast paced and competitive sport for individuals with physical disabilities that affect all four extremities. Players use special “Rugby Wheelchairs” to play the sport. These chairs are very maneuverable and can take a hit or two. Rugby players must be able to push their own wheelchairs.
SLED HOCKEY
Fridays 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. $50
Reno Ice - 15500 Wedge Parkway
Participants with physical disabilities will get a chance to learn about sled hockey and get on the ice. All equipment and on-ice instruction provided. Please wear long pants and closed toed shoes. No prior experience necessary.
Reno Rumble Sled Hockey Tournament

Teams from USA Hockey will join the Reno Ice Sled Hockey Club for a fun and competitive weekend of sled hockey!
Game times: Friday, 3 p.m. and 4:15 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., 4pm and 5:30pm

Whether you’re just getting started or looking to develop your skills to get to the next level, this program will help you along your journey through sport. Practices will focus on conditioning and sport specific drills (wheelchair basketball, power soccer, etc.).

Are you interested in the extreme challenge of wheelchair basketball? Wheelchair basketball is a sport for everyone - people who use wheelchairs for mobility and people who don’t.
TENNIS BUDDIES
A fun, interactive, and supportive environment for individuals with developmental disabilities where athletes can improve their fitness levels and learn to play tennis.

ADAPTIVE FITNESS AT UPSTATE NEVADA
Upstate Nevada and Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada are teaming up to offer Adaptive Fitness. A weekly fitness class for DSNNN members, volunteers and families. All fitness levels welcome!

WEEKLY WONDERS - FREE ART PROGRAM
Weekly Wonders is a free, weekly visual arts program provided year-round by Arts for All Nevada for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Currently, Arts for All Nevada offers four Weekly Wonders art workshops a week, in various locations. All Weekly Wonders programs take place from 3:00 to 4:30 pm regardless of location. On Mondays, Weekly Wonders is at the Lake Mansion, at 250 Court Street in Reno. On Wednesdays, Weekly Wonders is at the Douglas County Community Center in Gardnerville. On Thursdays, Weekly Wonders is at Larry D. Johnson Community Center, 1200 12th Street in Sparks, in partnership with the City of Sparks, and on Fridays, Weekly Wonders takes place inside the Reno Public Market, 299 E. Plumb in Reno, at Maker’s Paradise.
Weekly Wonders workshops are designed for adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. At a Weekly Wonders art workshop participants are guided through a variety of art projects, in a safe, social environment.
The Monday and Friday Weekly Wonders is supported, in part, by a grant from the City of Reno’s Access Advisory Committee; the Wednesday Weekly Wonders is made possible by a partnership with Douglas County and the Carson Valley Arts Council; and the Thursday Weekly Wonders enjoys the support of the Sparks City Parks and Recreation Department.

The City of Reno is offering our disabled veterans weekly fitness classes in our facility weight room. Classes will cover orientation to equipment, assessment of fitness level, proper technique to develop strength, endurance and flexibility, and discuss fitness goals. Upon completion of our four classes participants will be eligible for a FREE all inclusive facility membership good for one year.

Nevada PVA offers an active sports and recreation program for our members, and the disabled in our community. The PGA of America and local PGA Professionals are working closely with the VA system across the country to assist Veterans in their tranistion. PGA Professionals Sessions are taught by local with assistance from trained volunteers and include clubs and equipment if needed, training aids, range balls and weekly golf course access.
