Adaptive Cycling Center Interest Survey

City of Reno Adaptive plans to pilot an Adaptive Cycling Center this Summer at the Rosewood Nature Study Area (formerly Rosewood Golf Course). This membership based program will allow persons with disabilities to

access our many adaptive bikes and jump directly on the trail, no bike transport needed! We are looking for the communities feedback regarding interest in this type of adaptive cycling program and best hours of operation. Please complete the survey on Reno.Gov/Adaptive

Volunteers are a vital part of the City of Reno Inclusion/Adaptive Recreation program. Volunteers will gain rewarding experiences through assisting Parks and Recreation staff with a variety of programs or providing additional support for participants. We are currently seeking volunteers for our upcoming programs!

Wheelchair Rugby

Thursdays 3-6pm $50

Wheelchair or Quad Rugby is a fast paced and competitive sport for individuals with physical disabilities that affect all four extremities. Players use special “Rugby Wheelchairs” to play the sport. These chairs are very maneuverable and can take a hit or two. Rugby players must be able to push their own wheelchairs.

Wheelchair Basketball

Saturdays 1-3pm $50

Are you interested in the extreme challenge of wheelchair basketball?

Wheelchair basketball is a sport for everyone - people who use wheelchairs for mobility and people who don’t.

Wheelchair Sports Skills & Drills

Saturdays 10am-12pm $50

Whether you’re just getting started or looking to develop your skills to get to the next level, this program will help you along your journey through sport. Coached by Paralympic Gold Medalist, Three-Time Gold Medalist in Alpine Skiing & Basketball Alana Nichols, practices will focus on conditioning and sport specific drills.

Sky Tavern Adaptive Ski Program

Ages 4+

Sky Tavern offers an adaptive ski school for children with physical and mental disabilities. Specially trained staff is

available to help these kids experience the thrill of winter sports. Participation in a safe environment empowers those who in turn gain confidence for outdoor recreation. “There has never been a kid that they could not get out on the snow.”

Sled Hockey

Fridays 4:15-5:15pm $50

Reno Ice - 15500 Wedge Parkway, Reno

Participants with physical disabilities will get a chance to learn about sled hockey and get on the ice. All equipment and on-ice instruction provided. Please wear long pants and closed toed shoes. No prior experience necessary.

Note-able Music Therapy Services

Note-Able Music Therapy Services is a nonprofit organization with a primary purpose of providing inclusive music programs and music therapy services for children and adults of all ages and disabilities. Veterans Art Classes in Reno

Monday afternoons

The City of Reno is offering our disabled veterans weekly fitness classes in our facility weight room. Classes will cover orientation to equipment, assessment of fitness level, proper technique to develop strength, endurance and flexibility, and discuss fitness goals. Upon completion of our four classes participants will be eligible for a FREE all inclusive facility membership good for one year. The Fit but not Forgotten pass is valid for 1 year from the time of issue. It will be renewed under

the following circumstances: pass usage (must be active in the last 30 days) and continued grant funding from the VA. If there is a lapse in the pass, then the Veteran is required to complete a one hour refresher.

Accepting Applications for Winter Sports Clinic

Calling all RENO Veterans, the Sierra Nevada Healthcare System is now accepting applications for the 37th Annual National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic.

A world leader in rehabilitation, the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic provides nearly 400 profoundly disabled Veterans with training and rehabilitation every year. Veterans with TBIs, spinal cord injuries, visual impairments, amputations and other severe disabilities are challenged to overcome perceived limitations through adaptive skiing, sled hockey, scuba diving, rock wall climbing, education and other activities.

VA Awards $16 Million in Grants Supporting Adaptive Sports

VA awarded nearly $16 million in grants to qualifying organizations to help more than 13,000 disabled Veterans and members of the Armed Forces participate in adaptive sports.

Adaptive sports are competitive

hands-on experiences with horses allowing heroes to explore their struggles, discover their strengths, and apply new behaviors. Equine Assisted Services are conducted in a non-threatening, experiential learning environment. Through the human-horse bond, equine services provide emotional, cognitive, social, and physical benefits. Contact the Center for Adaptive Riding for more info.
