PARKS & RECREATION - THERAPEUTIC RECREATION Therapeutic Recreation (TR) is a treatment service designed to meet the needs of individuals with various disabilities and facilitate the development of leisure and recreation skills, socialization, independence, and overall quality of life. The goal of TR is to promote health and wellness through recreation, while reducing restrictions of participation in life situations caused by illness or disabling conditions

TR Spring Break Adventures Camp Date: April 5 - 9 Time: 8:30 AM - 2:00 PM Ages: All Cost: $35 Location: Booker T. Washington Recreation Center Experience a variety of outdoor recreational and stewardship activities during this week long camp. Through the challenges of each activity, participants will increase self-esteem and confidence, gain social skills, and learn coping strategies for various facets of life.

Karaoke Nights Date: February 10 and 24 Time: 5:30 - 6:30 PM Ages: All Location: The Planter’s Club Don’t miss out on this awesome opportunity to showcase all of your musical talents. Come sing your heart out to all of your favorite tunes with family and friends. We provide an encouraging and welcoming environment, where all individuals regardless of their skill level can feel comfortable in the spotlight.

Thera-Paws Date TBD Time: TBD Ages: All Cost: Free Location: East Suffolk Recreation Center Come out to the park and spend time with our wonderful furry, four-legged friends. Complete various obstacle courses, read, and play approved games with them.

DIY’ers Date March 11 and 18 Time: 5:30 - 6:30 PM Ages: All Cost: Free Location: East Suffolk Recreation Center Come out and explore your artistic talents! During this program, participants will have the opportunity to independently create various decorative art pieces.

The Suffolk Office on Youth was started in 2006 to oversee several prevention and outreach programs to assist youth and families in improving their overall quality of life.
