Winter Reading Challenge [VIRTUAL] Date: January 1 - 31 Ages: All Ages Cost: Free Location: SPL Website Registration on Beanstack required to complete reading log and be entered for prizes. Join the Library in reading during the month of January! Grab a new book, favorite book, or new to you book and spend some time reading. Be sure to check on your progress in the campaign on Beanstack to gain badges and be entered into a drawing for a prize!
Date: Tuesday, February 9 Time: 2:00 - 3:00 PM Ages: Family Cost: Free Location: SPL YouTube & Facebook Registration required. Not every hero wears a cape; some wear lab coats! Learn about some African American scientists and their amazing contributions that changed the world! We will be celebrating Dr. Willie Hobbs Moore, the first African American woman to get a Ph.D. in physics, by performing a psychics experiment with paint. Registrants will be able to pick up their materials at their chosen location prior to the air date.
Black and Super: How to Make Comics & History of Black Creators [VIRTUAL + KIT] Date: Wednesday, February 10 Time: 6:00 - 7:00 PM Ages: Family Cost: Free Location: SPL YouTube & Facebook Registration required. Interested in the history of African American comics? Join us to learn about comic creators and their impact on the comic industry. Also, grab a kit with additional information on comic creators and materials to start making your own comic! Registrants will be able to pick up their materials at their chosen location prior to the airing.
Black and Super Live Talks: Artists and Creators [LIVE] Date: Friday, February 12 Time: 6:00 - 7:00 PM Ages: 12+ Cost: Free Location: SPL Online Registration required. Bring your questions and join us for a live talk with local African American artists and creators. Registrants will receive an e-mail prior to start time with the live meetup link.
