Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum Welcomes New Executive Director, Trevor Allen
In February 2023, the board of the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum approved the appointment of Trevor Allen as the Museum’s new Executive Director. Trevor will be taking over from the prior Executive Director Melinda McCrary who recently vacated the position after a year. She took over the position from long time Executive Director Jim Kern who retired in January of 2022 after 33 years.
“It is a privilege to accept the board’s appointment as Executive Director,” said Allen. “I honor their trust in me and acknowledge the hard work ahead. I am truly excited by this new challenge. I was mentored by Jim Kern, former Executive Director who showed me what it meant to lead by example. I look forward to collaborating with the board, staff, volunteers, and our diverse community on new events, programs, and exhibits that will make the Vallejo Museum a more inviting and inspiring place to visit and explore. It’s an exciting time to be here.”
Mr. Allen holds a bachelor's degree from UCLA, where he studied history and theatre, and also a master's degree from SFSU in English: Creative Writing. He has worked for the San Francisco Zoological Society in their membership and fundraising departments, at the San Francisco Opera in their development department, and for eight years at Theatre Bay Area as the Director of Theatre Company Services.
He is a playwright, Dramatists Guild member and published author (Working for the Mouse and other plays by EXIT Press). He has performed in stage plays in LA, SF, and around the Bay Area. He has also done voiceovers for TV and radio.
Since moving to Vallejo in 2011 with his wife, he has been a founding member of the Vallejo Arts Alliance, a member of the artist advisory board of the Vallejo Community Arts Foundation (now V.C.A.), and has volunteered with Obtainium Works Art Studio since 2013 on events like the Obtainium Cup contraptor’s rally, the Fourth of July Parade, the Mad Hatter Parade, and many of their public events. He is currently serving his fifth year on the City of Vallejo’s Commission for Culture and the Arts, where he has been an advocate for public art, artists, and cultural institutions.
