Juneteenth Flag Raising
On June 2, 2023, City Manager Mike Malone joined Vallejo Mayor Robert McConnell along with members of the Vallejo African American Family Reunion Committee to raise the Juneteenth flag in commemoration of Juneteenth, which falls on Monday, June 19, 2023, and marks one of the most important days in our Nation’s History.
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day and Emancipation Day, is a holiday or observance in many U.S. states to celebrate the anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865. The observance commemorates the day on which Union soldiers, led by General Granger, enforced the Emancipation Proclamation and freed all remaining slaves in Texas. The news was delivered two and a half years after the executive order was effective.

California’s Electric Bicycle Incentive Project
The state Legislature allocated $10 million for California Air Resources Board (CARB) to create an Electric Bicycle Incentives Project to help people afford to purchase electric bicycles.
CARB has chosen San Diego-based nonprofit organization, Pedal Ahead, as the administrator to implement California’s statewide Electric Bicycle Incentive Project. The goal of this project is to encourage electric bicycles as a replacement
for in-town car trips by helping low-income Californians afford to purchase e-bikes. Through increased e- bike use, Pedal Ahead is seeing improved air quality and individual health, and low-cost high impact mobility. Possible criteria currently being examined for the program are income eligibility, electric bike types, retail support, educational needs, and other factors.
