The Return of Events - Is 2021 Our Year?

Westerville lives for its summer events, so going without for a season last year created an even greater sense of anticipation for the return of some of the City’s best celebrations.

POOLS ARE BACK!

The Highlands Park Aquatic Center (HPAC) will open, and celebrates its 10th anniversary missed last year. HPAC will operate under new guidelines for capacity and safety (see page 37). The indoor pools at the Westerville Community Center remain open.

CAMPS AND PROGRAMS

Day camps and programs at the Westerville Community Center are open for registration. Limited capacity is available for each camp. Check pages 43-47 for information on current opportunities.

HOLIDAYS

Memorial Day Weekend will look about the same as last year, particularly with Westerville Sunrise Rotary Field of Heroes. The annual Memorial Day Weekend traditionis promoting socially-distanced visitation for those who wish to walk among the Field. Masks and facial coverings will be required.

The 4th of July is TBD and dependent on the status of guidelines from the state of Ohio. If the state’s large gathering prohibition is lifted by July 4, Rotary Noon Club organizers intend to carry on with the parade and other activities. It is likely fireworks will proceed either way, as individuals may watch from their vehicles and socially distanced open spaces.

EVENTS AND FESTIVALS

Uptown Westerville, Inc. is excited to host 4th Fridays in 2021, and will announce events as soon as they can be state guideline compliant. UWI hopes to offer 4th Friday May-October (with October being Midnight Madness). Watch for announcements at www.uptownwestervilleinc.com.

Westerville Parks and Recreation also hopes to bring the Westerville Jazz Series back, potentially at a reduced schedule later in the summer, with an August or September beginning. The Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce Music & Arts Festival, status will be announced at www.westervillechamber.org.
