CITY RECEIVES GRANT

TO CHARGE UP ELECTRIC VEHICLES

The Westerville Electric Division is planning to use $105,000 in grant funding from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to install eight public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

Funding for the grant was provided through the Volkswagen Mitigation Trust Fund in support of the installation of Level 2 EV charging stations. In all, the Ohio EPA awarded $3.25 million in grants to support more than 500 public charging stations.

The grant award reinforces the Electric Division’s ongoing support of EVs in the community. As part of an ongoing focus on sustainability, the City created the Power Up Electric Vehicle Supply Rebate Program in 2019. The program offers commercial customers up to a $4,000 rebate to install an approved dual-port ChargePoint Level 2 and DC Fast Charging station.

By the end of 2021, the Electric Division anticipates 34 charging ports will be available in the City.
