CLG Agenda
Key milestones Jonathan Hill, Karangahape Project Manager • This year we reached many milestones even with the COVID delays. They included: • The Mercury Lane Station box reached grade level (its deepest point) and most recently Beresford Square reached B4. • The mined tunnel breakthrough - now all of the tunnels connect through Mercury Lane. • The TBM Dame Whina Cooper arrived and has already moved on towards Aotea Station where she is expected to arrive early in the new year • We also said farewell to our two road headers - Jean Batten and Dame Valerie Adams – which excavated the mined tunnels, together removing approximately 84,000 tonnes of sandstone.

The station crew are working on drainage and the start of the slab construction with a concrete pour completed midDecember.
Once the slab is poured, the team can start the bottom-up wall construction in the western section of the station.
The excavation of B3 was completed in mid-November and this completes the excavation in the western half of the station.
Excavation to B4
To date we have poured over 3100m3 of structural concrete, fixed over 900t of reinforcing steel and excavated 25000m3 of soil / rock

Now that the bottom of the bulk excavation has been reached, we have started to installed the drainage 11
Another big milestone for Karangahape Station was the mined tunnel breakthrough, which has now joined all the tunnels back to Mercury Lane
12
Mined Tunnel
Mined tunnel has excavated 50,000m3. Temporary supports within the platform caverns and connecting adits has involved the installation of 7,000 rockbolts and spraying 6,000 m3 of shotcrete.

A total length of 534 metres of tunnel have been mined at Karangahape Station.14
The TBM, Dame Whina Cooper passed through Karangahape Station and started the journey to Aotea Station where she is
15
TBM progress – nearly halfway to Aotea from Karangahape and anticipated to arrive there early in the new year

Noise and Vibration Receiver Type
•
We monitor noise and vibration 24/7 at Beresford Square and Mercury Lane to comply with the standards – Attended monitoring by Aecom
•
Noisy activities such as hydrovac trucks, rock breaking, vibration rollers, concrete saw cutting are planned in advance, notified and occur during construction hours
•
Controls and mitigation measures for noise include:
Occupied commercial and industrial buildings (including offices
Sensitive Noise and Vibration Receivers (excluding offices) Early childhood Education Centres (whilst occupied during normal opening hours)
Monday to Saturday 0700 - 2200
Sundays and Pub lic Holidays 0700-2200

Construction noise limits
– Noise mats – Eliminating unnecessary noise such as shouting, engines, dropping/banging and scraping digger buckets, tonal reversing alarms choosing quieter machinery – Late weekend start times on/off instead of continuous noise

Anna Guise, Sustainability Advisor
Sustainability
Sustainability in 2021 • Materials • Reduced carbon footprint of concrete used at KRD by 19% • Couplers to reduce steel used
• Recycling and reuse • Construction and demolition at KRD – 88% diversion, 3% of this is reused • Glove recycling
• Construction energy
Click to add text
• Using mains power where possible to power plant and equipment e.g. Roadheader, tower crane, gantry crane
• Water use • Recycled water used during hydro-excavation by subcontractor - Southeys • Water treatment plants installed at the sites to treat water prior to discharge
20
Spoil So far at KRD we have excavated over 204,000 tonnes of spoil. That is the same weight as 10 Sky Towers! Final destination of spoil 80,000

Mined Tunnels - What’s coming next year
What is the focus for 2022 • Next year will be a very busy year for the Mined Tunnel Team. • Now that the excavation is completed the focus will go on the Permanente structures for the platform tunnels and intersections. • Steel formwork that has been procured from China, Italy and Turkey will make its way to New Zealand in the new year. It will be fabricated inside the excavated tunnel, and a concrete lining will be poured up to 600mm thick. • Work will also continue with the tunnel waterproofing and reinforced bar instillation. Every junction inside the station requires reinforced steel to strengthen the intersection of the Adits and station entrances. • The TBM will once again pass through the station on its second trip towards Aotea Station. This will be the last time we see the TBM. The tunnel team will come in behind the TBM and build the 4 cross passages that will link the two tunnels together.

The End Results
January 2022 – December 2022 Next year will be an exciting year for Karangahape Station • We will be building each of the levels for the station in Mercury Lane and Beresford Square • This will be done bottom up – Starting at B7 and heading upwards to street level • We will also start the construction of the superstructures above ground • This will set us up for 2023 when we start the fit out works for the superstructures • We are still on track for a completion date of 2024.
