Spring to Queens Wharf Village The Queens Wharf Village is getting a spring in its step with live music every Friday from 3pm-7pm in September, the return of ping-pong tables and a new basketball court.
Alex Tong from Wolf Coffee says an increasing number of people are experiencing the village now the sun’s out, and he’s expanding his menu to include fresh bagels filled while you wait.
The dining and services container hub offers a varied menu line-up from New Zealand’s oldest and longest running mobile food provider The White Lady, fresh produce and salad bar Kapai, kiwi favourite St Pierre’s sushi, authentic Cinta Malaysian, and fresh Ugly Bagels and Three Beans Coffee from Wolf Coffee. The Grab ‘More convenience store and Fexco currency exchange complete the picture.
Queens Wharf Manager Connie Clarkson says Queens Wharf Village is funky, fresh and a little bit different.
Wellington-based fresh produce salad, wrap and more bar, Kapai, has made its Auckland debut at Queens Wharf Village. “Kapai stemmed from wanting to create a healthy food option, using only New Zealand’s freshest home-grown produce,” says Auckland Kapai Manager Rebecca Woolfall. “We love being based in the village and it’s a perfect fit for us. It has a real ‘kiwiana’ feel to it, is unique, collaborative and a celebration of being a New Zealander.” website AT.govt.nz/CRL email CRLproject@AT.govt.nz
“With summer just around the corner, Queens Wharf Village is a convenient spot for the downtown crowd to stop by for lunch, dinner, burn off some steam on the basketball court or just chill out on the water’s edge with an eclectic music line-up,” she says. www.queens-wharf.co.nz Japanese

Tricky manoeuvres
Sixty-four glass louvres have been removed from the southeastern corner of the Britomart Transport Centre Glasshouse to prepare for the temporary removal of basalt stone benches, and the Michael Parakowhai steel tree sculptures. Following this, the works will be repeated on the northeast corner of the Glasshouse. The items weigh between two and four tonnes and each will be lifted from the interior of the building by crane, through the open Glasshouse corners. At all other times a tarpaulin is securely fixed to the
Glasshouse to protect the interior of the station from the elements. “It’s an interesting logistical exercise,” says Nick Craig, Site Engineer. “The sculptures and seats were installed before the roof was added during the original Britomart works in 2002/2003. They sit in the direct path of the new CRL twin tunnels so need to be removed before underground works can begin.” The benches and tree sculptures are being stored safely for reuse at a later date.

Nine-storey piling giant comes to town One of the world’s biggest piling machines has landed in Auckland and will be moved in to position in lower Albert St this month. The Soilmec SR 100 has been shipped to New Zealand from Italy by Connectus, the Hawkins McConnell Dowell joint venture contracted to construct the City Rail Link cut and cover tunnels along Albert St. When folded in transport configuration, the Soilmec SR 100 is about 19 metres long by 3.5 metres wide, and 4m high. The sheer scale of the machine means moving it from portside to its initial Auckland CBD position will take three hours
and take place during the night to facilitate safe movement and minimise traffic effects. Quay St will be down to one lane and lower Albert St will be closed for this work. When fully unfurled with attachments the Soilmec SR 100 will be 5.5m wide and 11 metres long. The mast is about 29 metres high (nine storeys high). The piling machine weighs 150 tonnes and contains a 480 KW powered engine. It will be used to drill 362 piles to about 20 metres deep, starting mid October.
CRL construction team jump for joy The hardworking CRL construction team led by Scott Elwarth (in the pink) took some time out of the office when the giant size H&M promotion handbag was in Lower Queen St. Usually more comfortable in hard hats, steel caps and orange hi vis , they broke out with bow ties, braces and hats for this photo. H&M will be an anchor tenant in Commercial Bay when it opens.
