The Build is On campaign asking Aucklanders to think smart about their city commuting has begun. Extensive traffic modelling last year determined that peak hour motorist trips into the city needed to reduce by 10%, about 6000 vehicles, if congestion is to remain at current levels. The early works are already slowing traffic flows on Victoria Steet West where moving underground utilities is underway. Traffic flows will slow even further when cut and cover trenching starts in Albert Street in May. AT has created new priority 24/7 bus lanes to encourage commuters to shift from cars to buses, and there are other options. Consider carpooling, catching the train or ferry, walking or cycling. You could even think about changing the hours you work, or work from home some days. For more information visit: AT.govt.nz/thebuildison

State-of-the-art construction monitoring
Cyclops monitoring system
Keeping construction workers, the public and private property safe is of prime importance to the CRL, which has stringent health and safety conditions to meet. CRL has engaged Soldata Oceanea (Soldata), an international company that specialises in the monitoring of ground and building movements and the surrounding environment. Soldata will employ an innovative instrumentation system to monitor even tiny ground and building movement throughout construction. Its state-of-the-art “Cyclops” monitoring system performs laser measurements on targets and has an accuracy of +/- 1mm with the ability to scan more than 80 locations per cycle. Targets are monitored in real time and data automatically fed into Soldata’s monitoring
system “Geoscope” allowing any issues to be addressed immediately. AT has changed the traffic crossing to a Barnes Dance at the Albert and Victoria Street West intersections where pipejack works are being established. This allows pedestrians to cross diagonally, creating safer pedestrian flows and longer crossing times.

Britomart Station underpass closing On Tuesday 29th March the underpass between Britomart Station and QE Square will be closed in preparation for the CRL early works.
Underpass entries from Britomart Station and QE Square.
Early works information days The CRL early works will become more visible in May when cut and cover trenching for the CRL tunnels starts in Albert Street. To help Aucklanders understand what the works will mean for the CBD, we are running information days in March in QE Square. A sleek shipping container retrofitted for just such occasions, the AT Metro Lounge will be staffed by CRL and construction staff delivering the early works. There will also be information on changes to bus locations when they are moved from Lower Queen, Tyler and Galway Streets on 17th April. We look forward to
seeing you at the AT Metro Lounge, by No. 1 CafĂŠ in QE Square 10am to 4pm daily from Thursday 17th to Saturday 19th March.
