Our trails are part of what makes Tyler such a special place to visit, and we encourage people to take this opportunity to explore outside of our core garden area,â€? said Amy Mawby, Director of Public Programs. This is also the first time Tyler is partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters Southeastern Pennsylvania to offer a special opportunity for “Bigsâ€? to introduce their “Littlesâ€? to the world of hiking. Participants of BBBS will receive free admission for a child with paid discounted admission ($10) for the adult, with valid voucher provided by BBBS. This partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters is important because we believe all children should have the chance to explore and appreciate the natural world, regardless of what circumstances they come from,â€? said Mawby. National Trails Day encourages all Americans to connect with local outdoor clubs, businesses, community groups, and parks and recreation departments as well as federal land managing agencies to experience, appreciate, and share the natural places we cherish. “Twenty years ago, American Hiking built National Trails Day around the idea that for one day each year we should come together outdoors and give back to our favorite trails. Since then, people from all walks of life have been coming out in increasing numbers on NTD to celebrate our trails and the great outdoors,â€? said Gregory Miller, American Hiking Society president. Since 1993, National Trails Day has inspired millions of individuals and community groups to take part in activities that promote healthy living and mental well-being, protect green space, educate youth and adults on the importance of trails and instill excitement for the outdoors. ed on metal or canvas. His work is often marked by hyperreal or surreal coloration that prods the viewer to reconsider some of what the artist calls “cityscapes” — vistas that many people may see every day. Jack Dugan’s expressive cityscape photography will be featured in the exhibit, “Scaping Philly.” Shown is “Good Morning South Philly” by Photographer Jack Dugan. “Benjamin Franklin Bridge” is actually three separate shots taken with three different exposures. The city skyline becomes almost otherworldly. This work, Dugan explained, came about after he had heard of a certain alcove one could climb to. He “wanted to see what the world looked like from that point of view.” Dugan merged the tones and exposures to produce a stunningly ominous sky and a city below that nearly glows. “These sites are all around us,” Dugan asserts, “and it is my job to find them and show them to myself and to others.” Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. “Scaping Philly” runs through Sunday, June 29. tom-made suits for their clients in New York City, Philadelphia and Penne, Italy. Now in the twilight of their career, they fear that their Old-World knowledge will vanish with them. Enter Joe Genuardi, a tailoring apprentice who reflects the resurgence of popular interest in artisanal craftsmanship as an alternative to corporate mass production, providing hope for the future of this craft. The late Joe Centofanti was profiled in The Philadelphia Inquirer and was the tailor to former ambassador Walter Annenberg. Vicki Vasilopoulos says, “I truly admire artisans like Joe Centofanti, who lived a life of meaning and purpose—and created clothing as beautiful inside as it was outside. Joe’s skills were honed over the course of a lifetime—and my film honors his legacy for a younger generation.” “Men of the Cloth” is structured like a triptych: each character’s story gives us an insight into the past, present and future of their craft. We see the intimate connection with their tools and the tactile nature of their trade as they work in studied concentration: sewing, pressing, cutting, marking, and pinning. The whir of the sewing machine, the clank of the steam iron, and the sharp slicing of the tailor’s scissors create an aural symphony. These artisans cherish their interactions with their clients. And as they go about their daily tasks, they share obser- “Men of the Cloth” Director, Vicki Vasilopoulos. vations that are, by turns, nostalgic, poignant and humorous. “Men of the Cloth” unravels the mystery of the tailor’s artistry, and how he fashions a garment in such a way that it moves with the person who’s wearing it. Director/producer Vicki Vasilopoulos was a Senior Fashion Editor at DNR, the men’s news magazine (now a part of Women’s Wear Daily). Vasilopoulos was also a contributor to Fashion Wire Daily and has had features published in The New York Times, Esquire, Time Out New York and New Jersey Monthly. She has served as a film series programmer for New York Women in Film and Television. She is also a member of the Independent Filmmaker Project and the American Society of Journalists and Authors. Vasilopoulos graduated from NYU with a B.A. in Journalism and has studied at the Paris Fashion Institute in France and at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.

Four teams of Neumann University students finished in the top 1% of an international Business Strategy Game. our teams of Neumann University business students cracked the top 100 in an international Business Strategy Game that involved more than 9,400 teams from more than 400 colleges. The performance of the teams, based on Return on Equity (ROE) of fictitious footwear companies that they operated, placed them in the top one percent of all teams that entered the competition. The Business Strategy Game (BSG) casts students in the role of company managers, who are responsible for decisions regarding production operations, shipping and inventory management, corporate social responsibility, pricing and marketing, financing, worker compensation, and other aspect of business management. Teams from Canada, Europe, Mexico and the United States entered the 2014 competition. “Having students run a company in head-to-head competition with companies managed by other students provides a truly powerful learning experience that places students in active, hands-on managerial roles,” explained Dr. Robert Till, associate professor of business, whose Strategic Management class produced all four top-100 teams. The four Neumann teams achieved Return on Equity results that ranged from 41.5% to 48.3% According to the BSG website, the contest is “a competition-based strategy simulation where the outcomes are always unique to the competitive interplay among the specific decisions and strategies of each group of competing companies.” There is no secret set of strategic moves that works every time. Only two universities in the global competition placed more teams in the top 100 than Neumann University: Universidad Technologica de Mexico (10) and the University of Alabama (7). Neumann and four other colleges placed four teams in the top group. The Neumann teams, with final rankings, are: Fun Footwear (41st) – Rich Harrington, Alex Lacko, Tim McCrane, and Corey Smith. Best Footwear (tied for 48th) – Justin Brydges, Shaunagh Devlin, Kimberly Hyland, and Matt Mazzarolo. Global Athletics (51st) – John Clifford, Danielle Donahue, Kenny Hall, and Eric Meshirer. A Company (95th) – Rosie Kays, Briana King, and Rene Springer. Dr. Till, a resident of Wayne, PA, holds degrees from St. Bonaventure University (BBA), the University of Notre Dame (MBA) and the University of Massachusetts (Ph.D.). Prior to receiving his Ph.D., he was a managing director in the Investment Banking Division of JP Morgan Chase where he was employed for more than 20 years. His research interests include organizational justice, pay satisfaction, fairness theory, and ethics.

Sabrina Tamburino Thorne and Carol Tamburino. Katie Couric and Laurie David, the film by Stephanie Schoetig upends the conventional wisdom of why we gain weight and how to lose it; and unearths the dirty little secret the food industry doesn’t want you to know—far more of us are sick from what we are eating than anyone has ever realized. The special advance screening brought together more than 150 VIPs, including friends and supporters of the film’s executive producers and of the Vetri Foundation for Children, a non-profit organization established to help kids experience the connection between healthy eating and healthy living.
