'Nebula' Annual Dinner 2023

How time flies! It is the end of the academic year with the beginning of summer break of 2023, it is a great time to make a gathering and review what our residents have achieved during this year.

'Nebula' Annual Dinner 2023

Annual Dinner is the traditional activity of Hall2, residents dressed up in suits or formal to have delicious food and beverages together. On the 15th of May 2023, MET Team hold the 'Nebula' Annual Dinner gathering at HallA from 5:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

As the moon cast an eerie glow on the night of October 31st, Hall2 embraced the Halloween spirit with a bewitching door decoration competition. Residents of the hall unleashed their creativity, transforming ordinary entrances into hauntingly beautiful displays of Halloween-themed artistry. The event brought together a community of spirited individuals, celebrating the spookiest night of the year in style.

The Halloween door decorations displayed a wide range of themes and designs. Some doors transported viewers to spooky graveyards, while others celebrated iconic Halloween characters like vampires, zombies, and skeletons. Clever use of lighting and sound effects added an extra layer of the atmosphere, immersing viewers in the eerie ambiance of the occasion.

On a chilly October evening, the residents of "HSBC Prosperity Hall" gathered for a spine-tingling movie night and pizza party. As Halloween approached, the event provided a perfect opportunity for the hall's residents to come together and enjoy an evening of ghoulish entertainment and delicious food.

The movie selection included some of the most beloved Halloween classics, such as "Hocus Pocus," "Beetlejuice," and "The Nightmare Before Christmas." The films were a perfect mix of humor, spookiness, and nostalgia, captivating the audience and bringing back childhood memories.

Synopsis:

Rini's mother died after a mysterious illness that lasts for three years. Rini's father then decided to work outside of town, leaving his children behind. The kids soon felt as if their Mother had returned home. The scenario became even more horrifying when they discovered that their Mother had returned, not simply to visit, but to pick them up.

What Did the Prosperians Say?

A truly IMMERSIVE experience! Before watching the movie, participants listened to some ghost stories shared by guys from different cultures while enjoying pizzas and drinks. The movie Pengabdi Satan put us in a suspenseful and thrilling environment with its closely-knitted plots as well as the Indonesian-featured folklores Being too immersed in the scenes, some audiences exclaimed and even hugged each other when the ghost suddenly showed up It is also noteworthy that all puzzles about the film were answered by the Indonesian friends afterwards

The film was so thrilling and made me scared a lot with such a lot of unexpected horror scenes It was an unprecedented experience to enjoy the fear with everybody on Halloween And I really love the way how Go Global Team hosted the event with the pizzas, the snacks, and the atmosphere where everyone could share scary stories from their own country. I definitely will join this event next year!

On the delightful evening of December 28th 2022, Go Global Team transformed into a cozy haven of holiday cheer, hosting a memorable Christmas Movie Night.

HALL2 SPELLING BEE

In the spirit of intellectual prowess and friendly competition, HSBC Prosperity Hall recently hosted an exhilarating Spelling Bee competition on the 21st of January 2023 at Hall C.

The event brought together residents with a passion for language and a flair for spelling, creating an atmosphere of anticipation, excitement, and camaraderie.

With Festival Walk Coupons up for grabs as the coveted prize, participants showcased their linguistic skills in a thrilling battle of words.

As the competition progressed, tension filled the room with each spelling challenge.

Participants took turns stepping up to the microphone, spelling words aloud with confidence and precision.

Missed letters resulted in a suspenseful pause, while correct spellings were met with applause and admiration. The competition showcased both the nerves and the determination of the participants, creating an electric atmosphere.

LUNAR NEW YEAR SERIES

Hall2 Lunar New Year Celebration

Lunar New Year is one of the biggest holidays in local Hong Kong. Besides, it is also one of the times when college students get days off from classes.

It is a great time to make a gathering to make residents who are not able to come back to their hometown feel like they are coming home and also a great chance to introduce the special Chinese culture to residents from all over the world.

Every resident in the hall was invited from the resident master and his family to the students on each floor. The main draw to the party was the food prepared for it. As per tradition, New YearCake and Chinese dumplings (Jiaozi) were available for people to taste and enjoy. ln addition, there were other little snacks and drinks prepared as well for attendees to take and eat.

Over 30 people attended the party and partook in sharing food and games. While this was not how most people traditionally celebrated the lunar new year, the time spent with other Hall 2 residents and the food shared made for a fun afternoon.

On the evening of February 5th, 2023, HSBC Prosperity Hall was abuzz with excitement and cultural significance as residents gathered to celebrate the traditional Chinese Lantern Festival.

The event brought together a vibrant mix of lantern displays, delectable treats, and a lively Kahoot trivia game, creating an atmosphere of joy, togetherness, and cultural appreciation.

As the lanterns cast their enchanting glow, residents indulged in the delightful tradition of sharing Yuanxiao, also known as tangyuan.

These sweet glutinous rice balls, filled with a variety of flavors, symbolized togetherness and harmony. Paired with an assortment of snacks and refreshments, the culinary offerings delighted the taste buds and created a sense of shared enjoyment.

Badminton PEK

The badminton meet held in the student residence officially started on October 5, and all the Prosperians showed great interest and enthusiasm Although we lost 3-0 to Hall 11, I believe everyone in Hall 2 gained friendship and happiness in this fantastic game.

Friendship is the first, and competition is the second, although all the participants of Hall 2 have joined a lot of training sessions, hoping to achieve a better result in the competition. But the value of life is not to win results but to keep moving forward after recognizing reality Hope all the athletes in Hall 2 can achieve better results in the years to come.

On the 23rd of October, CityU held a sporting event. The 29th CityU annual athletic meet features an interhall competition for CityU's Hall Residents. The interhall highlight is the running relay for both men and women. At the end of the round, Yukie won a gold prize for the 5000 m relay, and RT Michelle for leading Hall's team. Besides that, Lee Chi Tat from 505B room achieved the 2nd runner-up for the 5000 m relay. Congratulation, and Thank you for your hard work to everybody involved!

Create Climbing Competition

The create climbing competition was held on 19 November 2022

Residents in Hall 2 signed up and participated in the previous several training sessions and a precompetition actively.

During the practice, there are a variety of residents desiring to try climbing They tried one by one and others volunteered to assist to support each climber

Students arrived at the McPherson Stadium in the afternoon that day with expected and excited hearts

The competition had 3 rounds in total Each round had a 10 minute limit Climbers should try their best to climb higher in the time limit and they had 3 choices to record the present number of boxes they had climbed

The supporter should help the climber It didn't matter if all the boxes fell over, the climber could climb back up within the time limit The final result was based on the last recorded impact.

The climbers in each round found their own skills and achieved better and better results. The supporters collaborated to observe the boxes and support.

In the competition, everyone in the practice did their best and became more and more united, showing the spirit of unity of Hall 2.

Inter-hall Singing Contest 2023

The CityU Inter-hall singing contest was happening on the 28th of March 2023 at 18:30 in Wong Cheung Lo Hui Yuet Hall. Our hall had Nathan and Miki as the contestants for duets and Richard as the solo competitor.

Starting with our soloists, they truly captivated us with their sweet singing Alone, but never forgotten - these amazing performers lit up the stage with their dazzling display of talent and skill, leaving the audience in awe!

The music that these musicians played made us feel this camaraderie even more Thank you to all who bravely performed on stage and made us grow closer as part of Hall2's family

The atmosphere was electric on the 1st of March 2023 as the vibrant community of Hall2 gathered for their highly anticipated annual soccer competition. The air was filled with excitement and the spirit of friendly competition as teams from across the hall prepared to battle it out on the field The event showcased not only the talent and skill of the participants but also the strong bond and camaraderie that defines the hall's community What made the soccer competition truly special was the undeniable spirit of teamwork and camaraderie exhibited by all the participants Every team, driven by a common goal, demonstrated exceptional coordination, communication, and a shared love for the game

Regardless of the result, the hall residents cheered and applauded every effort, reinforcing the spirit of unity and support that defines the Hall2 community.

With lenses focused and imaginations set free, the aspiring photographers from the hall showcased their talent, resulting in an extraordinary display of visual storytelling

Among the exceptional entries, it was Aibek, a talented resident, who shone brightest and secured the coveted individual best photo awards.

Hall2 IT Team INSTAGRAM FILTER WORKSHOP

The Instagram filter workshop was organized by IT team of Hall 2 on 25th November 2022. The workshop was held in mixed form, zoom and offline. Around 20 people attended it.

Thanks to the IT team’s efforts, they devised this interesting topic, prepared the teaching content for a long time, and tidied up the multifunction hall in advance.

During the workshop, the speaker of the IT team explained the computer operation skill patiently. The participants were all fond of and sunk in the interesting topic.

Through the Instagram filter workshop, everyone had a great night with each other and learned a lot. It also shows that each Team in our Hall 2 always contributes its power and helps to gather the residents together.

CityHack is an annual hackathon organized by CityU students, during which participants will learn, build, and innovate technological solutions together.

We have many mentors and various workshops to guide you no matter the major, background, or experience. Join us on this opportunity and have a chance to become the champion.

The interhall League of Legends solo tournament 2022 which was held by the Office of the Vice-President took place on the 24th of September from 11 am to 6:30 pm at Create Media Centre.

During the competition, Hall2 resident Ben kept challenging residents from 10 other halls and finally got the top 1 in the hall area this year. We congrats him on his great effort in this competition, and we also thank him who won this title for hall2!

The FIFA competition was organized by the Hall 2 E-Sports Team. It was held on 18 Feb 2023, at 7:00 p.m. It was just in the G/F common room of Hall'2 and used the handles and TV. The prize of the FIFA tournament is festival walk cash coupons, 300 HKD for the champion, 200 HKD for 2nd, and 100 HKD for 3rd.

There were 4 rounds and 12 teams in total participated. Eachteam has 2 persons. The level of the participants varied greatly. Some residents did not learn about FIFA before but still came to participate because of their curiosity and passion. The environment of our tournament was very electric and everyone had a very great time. The laughter and sounds of cheers were spread constantly.

After the tournament, the veteran gamers showed strength through competition and won prizes and love this new game experience they made friends with each other fast and built up their friendly relationships during the game.

On 17th September, Hall2 T-shirt was for sale. With the logo of Hall2 and of good quality, it is highly praised. A lot of residents specially went downstairs to buy the t-shirt. The t-shirt selling day witnessed the love between hall2 and the residents. Residents actively bought and wore t-shirts, being proud of being a member of hall2.
