RESIDENCE MASTER
DR. RAY CityU HSBC Prosperity Hall is one of the oldest student residence halls in CityU. As shown in the Hall 2 website, we can find the previous 16 historial hall magazines since 2005, and this year we are very proud to announce the 17th issue of the Hall magazine. Special thanks go to the Hall magazine team, resident tutors, resident association and also all the hall residents. The global pandemic has created new challenges to every one of us on the planet, and it is a valuable learning experience for us to apply technology to tackle this kind of global health problems when our education and business world suffer from significant interruption. We strongly believe that the COVID will be gone, our study and normal daily lives will resume back to normal, and more importantly, the friendship and memories that we have created together in Hall 2 will remain forever. This is an usual year, apart from the COVID, we also received a number of fraud cases affecting many residents and students in Hong Kong. However, the best way to tackle these kinds of challenges is to have a better education and also understanding of digital literacy in the current era when our human world is in the process of becoming a Metaverse or an fully AI-enabled society. This is the 4th year that our student leaders in hall 2 have collaborated with other student leaders in CityU for organizing a successful signature "CityHack" Hackathon with a lot of support from our students, academic units and industry partners. Another flagship event called SPECIAL Talk series, with support from CityU SRO, we are very fortunate to have invited 6 prominent speakers to share the value of S.P.E.C.I.A.L. to our residents. Looking forward, we expect our residents will continue to create new values not only for themselves, but also to care for people in need for a better society at large.

Lunar New Year Celebration Chinese New Year is one of the biggest holidays, and one of the few that college students get days off from classes. Most of the times students would go to meet family or explore the region but due to the pandemic, many were not able to. To make up for this, Hall 2 planned a party to celebrate the year of the tiger on the 1st of February 2022.
Every resident in the hall was invited from the resident master and his family to the students on each floor. The main draw to the party was the food prepared for it. As per tradition, New Year Cake and Chinese dumplings (Jiaozi) were available for people to taste and enjoy. In addition, there were other little snacks and drinks prepared as well for attendees to take and eat. Over 30 people attended the party and partook in sharing of food and games. While this was not how most people traditionally celebrated the lunar new year, the time spent with other hall 2 residents and the food shared made for a fun afternoon.

UP TEAM Post Exam Hiking After months of studying and weeks of testing, most students are looking for an activity to unwind with and get out into nature with. That’s why the UP Team prepared a post-exam hike on the 17th of December. UP stands for undergraduate-postgraduate and is a new team in Hall 2. It was created by Irfan (Hall 2 tutor 2020-2021) as a way to facilitate communication and cooperation between these two types of students at CityU.
The hike, which lasted for about 1.5 hours was tough and not very beginnerfriendly. It was rough on the participants and even managed to elicit some complaints from the group. However once, at the peak, the group was treated to a spectacular, clear view of Kowloon City. the group spends some time on the top of the mountain, enjoying the fruits of their efforts and bonding with each other.
The hike was organized alongside Hall 8 with the residents master of both Hall 2 and 8 (Dr. Ray and Dr. Alex) helping with inter-hall cooperation. The event was initiated by the UP team and the route was chosen by hall 8 on Fei Nogo Shan. Hiking is common leisure time activity in Hong Kong that allows people some exercise and time with nature. Over 25 residents from halls 2, 8, and 10 participated in the event.
