The Tour of
Valletta
Malta’s Capital City! Valletta, Malta’s Capital City and a World Heritage site, is nothing short of an open-air museum. Valletta known as Il-Belt, contains buildings from the 16th century onwards, built during the rule of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, also known as Knights Hospitaller. The city is essentially Baroque in character with elements of Mannerist, Neo-Classical and Modern architecture in selected area, though World War II left major scars on the city. The City of Valletta was officially recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980. The city is named for Jean Parisot de la Valette, who succeeded in defending the island from an Ottoman invasion in 1565. The official name given by the Order of Saint John was ‘Humilissima Civitas Valletta’ – The Most Humble City of Valletta or Citta’ Umilissima in Italian. The bastions, curtains and ravelins along with the beauty of its Baroque palaces, gardens and churches, led the ruling houses of Europe to give the city its nickname Superbissima – Most Proud. During the tour you will walk through the bustling streets and to Barracca Gardens for a breathtaking panorama of the Grand Harbour. You will then visit St. John’s Co-Cathedral where you will see the painting ‘The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist’ by Caravaggio, considered one of Caravaggio’s masterpieces and the only painting signed by the painter. You will then watch the Malta Experience Show which will help you discover the Island and Malta’s amazing history. Free time will be available for shopping! Price

The
Three Cities & Wine Tasting Tour
The Three Cities is a collective description of the three fortified cities of Cospicua, Vittoriosa and Senglea. During the tour you will drive past Cospicua, a doublefortified harbour city and the largest of the three. It was also given a title as Citta’ Cottonera, but erroneously the title is now used to define the whole region. You will then arrive in Vittoriosa. Vittoriosa is ideally situated for safe anchorage and over time it has developed a very long history with maritime, mercantile and military activities. Prior to the establishment of Valletta as capital and main city of Malta, military powers that wanted to rule the Maltese islands would need to obtain control of Vittoriosa due to its significant position in the Grand Harbour. The third city Senglea is also called Civitas Invicta because it managed to resist the Ottoman invasion at the Great Siege of 1565. The name Senglea was given by the grandmaster who built it, Claude De La Sengle. The island on which Senglea lies was joined by a land bridge to Cospicua during the time of the Knights of St. John and as a result, it became peninsular in shape. During this tour you will walk through the various narrow streets shaded by many historic churches and buildings. You will then drive to the Marsovin Cellars in Marsa. The wine tasting tour commences with a historical introduction amongst original artefacts, followed by an explanation about the process of how the locally grown grapes are pressed, fermented and eventually transformed into wine. A walk through the 400-year-old ‘Ageing Cellars’ is an authentic and true piece of Maltese heritage. The wine sampling is held in the Marsovin wine bar, where trained staff guide guests through a wine tasting session to sample different Marsovin wines accompanied by a selection of local savouries like maltese bread and cheese. At the bar one also has the opportunity to purchase local Marsovin wines. Price

EVERY WEDNESDAY
The tour of Mosta, Ta’ Qali Crafts Village & Mdina, the Noble City! You will first drive to the city of Mosta. Inspired by Rome’s Pantheon, the church in the centre of the city was built in the 18th Century. It became known throughout the country in 1942 when during World War II, a dropped bomb failed to explode, thus sparing the lives of some 300 people. This church has the third largest dome in Europe. You will then visit the town of Ta’Qali, located nearby was once a British WWII outpost, but has been converted to a village for local handicrafts. You will be able to watch local artisans at work blowing elaborate glass art pieces, intricately assembling original silver filigree jewellery, carving the local limestone and many more. This is the perfect place to pick up treasures that will remind you of your Malta visit. Finally you visit Mdina, Malta’s ancient capital. It rests in a very majestic way, on top of a hilltop right at the centre of the island. Mdina is also called ‘The Silent City’ because of its literally quiet and narrow streets that give off a quaint yet very homey atmosphere. Mdina is not only considered to be one of Malta’s precious jewels, but this ancient walled city is one of the best medieval fortifications. You will see magnificent views of the entire Maltese landscape. You will also visit St. Paul’s Cathedral, a Roman Catholic Cathedral built on the site where governor Publius was reported to have met Saint Paul following his shipwreck off the Maltese Coast.

Discovering
Gozo
Malta’s Sister Island After a twenty minute crossing, on setting foot in Gozo you will notice that although both islands are similar in history and development, Gozo has a character entirely of its own. Gozo, which is a three hilled island, is greener and more picturesque than Malta. First stop is The Ggantija Temples that stand at the end of the Xaghra plateau, facing towards the south-east. This megalithic monument is in fact two temples, built side by side and enclosed with a boundary wall. The southerly one is the larger and elder, dating back to approximately 3600 BC. It is also better preserved. The second stop is Calypso’s Cave, is said to be the cave where Ulysseys was kept as a love prisoner for seven years by the nymph Calypso in the story of Homer’s Odyssey. Calypso’s cave lies near the stunning beach of Ramla Bay; the view is magnificent! You will then drive to Xlendi Bay, a popular beach and an ideal diving site. Xlendi is a typical Gozitan fishing village and harbours a number of fishing vessels. The next visit is The Citadella, a historic fortified city which lies in the heart of Victoria. The Citadella, also called as The Citadel, is on Malta’s tentative list of future World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, who describes it as a small fortified town. An old prison is located within the city, as are the Courts of Justice. After this visit you will stop for lunch in a restaurant in Rabat. Afterwards you will visit Ta’ Pinu Basilica, a Roman Catholic Parish Church located 700 metres away from the village of Gharb and allows visitors to enjoy beautiful views of the area. After visiting this church, which is dedicated to Blessed Virgin of Ta’ Pinu, you will also visit The Azure Window, a natural arch featuring a table-like rock over the sea. It is situated near two other famous landmarks – The Inland Sea & Dwejra Bay. Finally you will drive to Mgarr Port via Qala Belvedere where breathtaking scenes can be enjoyed. Price

On your visit you will discover the intricate nuances of Malta’s historic nobility and their enchanting way of life. Touring this stately home offers great insight and sparks the imagination – whether you find yourself seeking inspiration from the grand Ballroom, the detailed Family Chapel or the fabulous walled Gardens and Orangery. You will then drive to Dingli Cliffs, located less than a kilometre to the south west of the village of Dingli. The cliffs are 220 metres high and are the highest point in Malta! An isolated chapel makes for a charming landmark. Built in the 17th century, the Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene offers some of the most beautiful views you can get from these cliffs. From here you can also see the tiny uninhabited islet of Filfla. Your final stop is The Buskett Gardens, located in the fertile valley of Wied il-Luq, Siggiewi. The gardens are at their best in Spring but they offer shade from the harsh midSummer sun and offer a quiet place for a walk in the Winter months. Prehistoric
Temples Tour
A Malta Temples Tour is a must for anyone who travels to this beautiful Mediterranean island. Malta and Gozo are home to seven megalithic temples, all of which are designated as world heritage sites by UNESCO. These megalithic temples date back 5500 years ago and are the oldest free-standing stone structures in the world, even older than the Stonehenge and the Pyramids. It is also home to more than thirty other temples, all of which reflect Malta’s rich past. During this tour you visit the Tarxien Temples which are an archaeological complex in Tarxien. They date back to approximately 3150 BC. The site was accepted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. The temples consist of three separate, but attached structures. The main entrance is a reconstruction dating from 1956, when the whole site was restored. At the same time, many of the decorated slabs discovered on site were relocated indoors for protection at the Museum of Archaeology in Valletta. You will then visit Hagar Qim & Mnajdra Temples. The megalithic complex of Hagar Qim is located atop a hill on the southern edge of the Island, on a ridge capped in soft globigerina limestone. All exposed rock on the island was deposited during the Oligocene and Miocene periods of geological time. 500 metres from Hagar Qim stands the Mnajdra megalithic temple. The surrounding area is typical of Mediterranean garrigue in its starkness and isolation; it is designated as a Heritage park. A few hundred metres from the temple is one of the thirteen watchtowers built by Grand Master Martin de Redin, called Hamrija Tower. Transport back to all hotels will be provided. Price

Marsaxlokk Fishing Village
You will first drive to The Blue Grotto. The Blue Grotto is actually a number of sea caverns on the southern coast of Malta, west of the Wied iz-Zurrieq harbour and across the small uninhabited islet of Filfla. Everyday from sunrise until about 1300 hrs, a unique sight can be observed here. The cave’s location combined with the sunlight lead to the water mirroring shows numerous shades of blue. Several caverns mirror the brilliant phosphorescent colours of the underwater flora; other caverns show a deep dark shade of blue. If weather permits, you can do a 40 minute boat trip around the caves for an extra cost. You will then drive to the fishing village of Marsaxlokk. Marsaxlokk is a very popular attraction for tourists and locals because fresh fish and seafood caught during the same morning can be bought. Vintage Bus Tour to Vittoriosa, Cospicua & Senglea
Step back through the mists of time as you drive to the fortress of Cottonera which is widely known as the Three Cities, these being Vittoriosa, Cospicua & Senglea. These cities were built and fortified by the Knights of Malta. You first start with an informative drive through Cospicua. Cospicua has been inhabited since Neolithic times. Prior to the 18th Century it was known as Bormla, a name which is still in use. Its fortification walls, constructed to protect the town and its neighbours Vittoriosa & Senglea, were built by the Knights of Malta. Construction began in 1638 but was not completed for another 70 years. In 1722, Grand Master Marc’ Antonio Zondadari declared Bormla a city and in view of its strong bastions named it Citta’ Cospicua. You will then visit Vittoriosa, ideally situated for safe anchorage and over time it has developed a very long history with maritime, mercantile and military activities. Prior to the establishment of Valletta as a capital city of Malta, military powers that wanted to rule the Maltese islands would need to obtain control of Vittoriosa due to its significant position in the Grand Harbour. Vittoriosa is now a location of several tourist attractions. The historic Vittoriosa Waterfront contains the former Palace of the General of the Galleys and the Order of St. John’s treasury. The area was refurbished in the early 2000s and both buildings are used for other activities: the former is now a casino, while the latter is home to the Malta Maritime Museum. A second museum, the Vittoriosa 1565 Museum, is also located in the town and is dedicated to the siege and the battle in the town in 1565. The third city is Senglea, joined by a land bridge to Cospicua during the time of the Knights of St. John and as a result it became a peninsular in shape. During the time of the Knights of St. John, Senglea was used as a hunting area and was known as L’Isola di San Giuliano. In 1311 St. Julian’s church or chapel was founded. This was the first building to be constructed. On 8 May 1552 the foundation stone of Fort St. Michael was laid. Work on the fort, which was designed by Architect Pedro Pardo was completed in 1553. Construction of walled town Senglea took place during the following decade. The area, which had until the 1550s been known as Isola di San Giuliano or Isola di San Michele, was given city status by Grand Master Claude De La Sengle and was named after him. A detailed English commentary by the driver will help you unfold the history of Valletta and the Three Cities connected with two Great Sieges of 1565 and 1942. Tour is operated by one of the first two wooden bodied buses purchased in 1921 by the Cottonera Motor Bus Company. These buses were licensed to operate routes between Cottonera and Valletta and were made by local carpenters and mechanics, later called as bus body builders. At that time the local carpenters and mechanics were encouraged to build bus bodies so that the company Cottonera Motor Bus Co. could increase its fleet rapidly. Tour leaves from Sliema Ferries (opposite of Marks & Spencer).

Paintball in Malta
What is Paintball?
At the most basic level, a paintball game consists of a group of players who attempt to achieve a particular objective without being eliminated. Players attempt to eliminate each other from the game by hitting and marking each other with paintballs shot from paintball markers. Like poker, paintball has many variations and each location or group of players may have their own ‘house rules’. Variations may include the number of players on a team, the number of teams, differing objectives, length of the game, what kind of hits count for an elimination, how long eliminated players are out the game and more. As soon as you arrive you will be given a full safety briefing by our experienced umpires. You will also be given a Paint Marker, Co2 Cylinder & Gas, Complete Face & Ear Protection, Camouflage Overalls & 250 Paintballs (50 paintballs per game). It is advisable to wear strong footwear and it is considered sensible to bring gloves and a soft cap of some sort.

in Hungarian You will first drive to Blue Grotto. Blue Grotto took its name from a series of sea caverns which in turn get their ‘blue’ hue from the phosphorescent colours given off by the underwater flora in combination with the crystal clear sea water. The cave walls in turn reflect these colours and create the effect of the Blue Grotto. If weather permits, you can do a 40 minute boat trip at an extra cost. You will then visit Marsaxlokk, the largest fishing village and probably the most well known fishing village in the country thanks to its prevalence in many Malta related photographs. There has been a settlement in this location since around 3000 BC, as evidenced by the ruins of a Megalithic Temple found on the site. Another attraction to the village are the traditionally painted fishing vessels which come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Marsaxlokk is very popular with tourists and locals also because of the fresh fish and seafood that can be bought from the market. Hungarian Full Day Tour visiting
Mdina, Ta’Qali & Valletta Your first visit during this tour is Mdina. Mdina is built on a plateau in the centre of the island, the city’s old Baroque buildings, cathedral and magnificent bastion walls dominate the rural skyline. Mdina, once the capital of Malta until the modern city of Valletta was built in 1565, has had many names including Melita (Roman occupation), Medina (Arabic occupation), Citta Nobile (Knights of St. John) and Citta Vecchia (after Valletta was built). Today is also referred as the Silent City since it inspires tranquility at any time of the day or night. The only way to really experience and enjoy this city is on foot, explore the quaint alleys, narrow streets, ancient buildings and magnificent far reaching views from the high bastion walls. While you are in Mdina you visit the St. Paul’s Cathedral, a Roman Catholic Cathedral built on the site where governor Publius was reported to have met Saint Paul following his shipwreck off the Maltese Coast. After a lunch stop in Rabat, you then drive to the town of Ta’Qali, located nearby was once a British WWII outpost, but has been converted to a village for local handicrafts. You will be able to watch local artisans at work blowing elaborate glass art pieces, intricately assembling original silver filigree jewellery, carving the local limestone and many more. This is the perfect place to pick up treasures that will remind you of your Malta visit. Finally you will visit Valletta, Malta’s Capital City and a World Heritage site. Valletta known as Il-Belt, contains buildings from the 16th century onwards, built during the rule of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, also known as Knights Hospitaller.
