Events, talks and exhibitions There is plenty going on at the London Canal Museum with an exciting and varied programme of special events. These include:

Discover the story of London’s canals, from the early days as important trade routes, to today’s more leisurely pursuits. Learn about the cargos and canal crafts, the people who strove to make a living on the canals, and the horses that pulled the boats.

Come and explore. . . There’s lots to see at the London Canal Museum in our former ice warehouse built in the 1860s. The building has a great deal of character and interest, and our exhibitions tell two linked stories; the stories of London’s canals, and of the ice trade for which the building was built. • Explore for yourself how people lived and worked on a traditional working narrowboat. • Discover more about the forgotten ice trade in the days before refrigerators, and peer into the museum’s huge ice wells. • View our new exhibition Water and Locks and have a go at getting the boat through the lock gates! • See how horses lived and worked in 19th century London – delivering goods around the streets and pulling the working canal boats. • Find out about the fascinating past of London’s canals – view our map illustrating how the canals developed. • Download a free audio tour of the museum to your mobile or music player before you come. • Activity Zone for children – follow Henrietta Horse on a trail around the museum or build our arch bridge
