Kraków

A city wrapped in legend Time seems to flow differently in Kraków. For centuries this intriguing city was the capital of Poland and the seat of kings, drawing great scholars and artists from the around world. They have left behind a rich legacy of unique historical relics, fascinating stories and compelling legends which serve to make Kraków a place that you simply must see! Particularly magical are the city’s squares, including the largest in Europe, Rynek Główny. The mediaeval square hosts numerous festivals, concerts and fairs. Kraków also has a varied array of fascinating museums. Some house unique collections of art and are located in the city’s most architecturally stunning buildings. Why Kraków? • Because it was here, Nicolaus Copernicus first thought of placing the Sun in the centre of the solar system, with the Earth revolving around it • Because Kraków is home to Poland’s greatest assembly of Nobel Prize Laureates! • Because Kraków is the first and only city in Poland to be granted the title Altera Roma (the second Rome) • Because the florists’ stalls on Kraków’s main market have been blooming there since the 16th century! • Because the city never could, and still can’t live without music - it sounds better in Kraków! • Because Kraków’s Blonia - a magic meadow spreading over 48 hectares for walks and recreation - is Poland’s greatest pasture and is located at the heart of this great city • Because Kraków’s pigeons are, in fact, medieval knights turned into birds! But why not just come and see for yourself and experience the magic of Kraków...

lisbon

Hanging over the Tagus River, Lisbon from its 7 hills, offers its visitors panoramic views of great beauty. Saint George’s Castle truly deserves a visit, to get there just work your way through Alfama’s typical narrow streets. Enter Bairro Alto, one of the city’s historical quarters, by the Glória Funicular or by Chiado and take a break in one of the many bars and restaurants. Taste the Portuguese gastronomy and in the evening listen to “Fado”, Lisbon‘s traditional song. Another option is just to watch the sunset on a terrace facing the river, in the docklands area. Plus you can enjoy the nightlife in one of Avenue 24th of July’s discos or at Nations Park.

Figuring out which more accurately describes this stunning Estonian city would be a tough job. On one hand, the city’s pride and joy is its historic old town with ancient streets, houses, towers and squares which looks as though torn straight from the pages of a storybook. On the other hand, threaded through that same old town are cuttingedge restaurants, cafés and clubs. Visitors are often amazed by the newness of the city, the gleaming shops, the stylish interiors, the plush hotels. There are also the high-tech solutions that go hand-in-hand with Tallinn life, such as free wireless internet available practically everywhere and the common practice of paying for parking by mobile phone. This is, after all, the country that invented Skype!

In the evening, head for one of the 15,000 concerts that make up the city of music’s annual quota. The choice is vast; from performances by the Vienna Boys’ Choir to gala events at the worldfamous Konzerthaus. Operetta lovers should make a beeline for the Volksoper, while Porgy & Bess is the place for jazz fans.
