Nestled below the castle of Son Vida, this is Mallorca’s oldest course.

The original Fred Hawtree design has been lengthened and improved and the greens are some of the best on the island. The back nine holes provide a stern test particularly the 18th Par-5 with water on both sides of the fairway – nerve-wracking if you’ve got a good score going! Two miles from Palma.

This Mallorcan country house is surrounded by gardens and Son Vida Golf Club and has stunning views of Palma and the Mediterranean.

This is an excellent ‘technical’ course where each hole will be remembered and although not excessively long, you’ll hit every club in your bag.

Almond, pine and olive trees line the fairways and there are a few water hazards to avoid early on too. The 5th hole, measuring 212 yards, and the long 15th are two of our favourites.

This course is fairly hilly with pine and olive trees aplenty.

The undulated fairways and well-designed, contoured greens will present a challenge although this is probably the easiest of the courses. A superb new clubhouse with poolside bar and restaurant awaits after your round.

The huge public rooms are decorated with Spanish works of art and the bedrooms are tastefully decorated with warm colours and guests can choose from a selection of pillows, luxury soaps and bathrobes.

The owner wanted to ensure that golfers played the best course on the island and in the best condition...One can only agree.

The greens are like billiard tables and the fabulous fairways are broken up with extensive bunkering, lakes, waterfalls and even vineyards. There are a number of memorable holes, the Par-3 5th and the nerve-jangling 18th being the pick. The practice facilities and clubhouse are first class. Eight miles from Palma.

This wonderfully-maintained course allows you to open your shoulders but stray off-line and the rough and streams will soon penalise you. Some of the holes are fairly long and there are a few steep slopes so you’ll need to be on your game to score well here. Thoroughly recommended. 38 miles north-east of Palma.

This recent and great addition to Mallorcan golf is already rated as one of Europe’s top courses.

Set in natural parkland, the course demands accurate play as wayward drives are penalised by the rough. Accuracy is far better rewarded than length on this course and it’s a welcome pleasure to have to think your way around and to concentrate on the approach shots. This young course has been ‘tweaked’ by Jose Maria Olazabal and presents a challenging and enjoyable test for all players.

The 172-yard Par-3 second hole is an early treat, played over a canyon, the green is ‘an elephant burial ground’ and a very tricky two putt! The clubhouse is a renovated farmhouse dating back to 1581. Easy walking. 44 miles east of Palma.
