You are in Vilnius!

The capital of Lithuania, with a population of 523 000, Vilnius is one of the most visited cities in all of Eastern Europe. Its Old Town was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994. 2013 is a special year for Lithuania â&#x20AC;&#x201C; for the first time in history the country is having the opportunity to lead the council of the European union. About 200 EU meetings are being held in Vilnius, during which the European leaders discuss issues which are of significant importance to each and every European citizen. Vilnius is located at the crossroads of main roads linking the East and the West. It boasts a wellÂdeveloped rail and bus transport infrastructure. By bus from Vilnius it is possible to reach at least 16 countries and more than 100 different cities in Europe. The trip from the airport to central Vilnius is just 8 kilometres and takes only 10 minutes. Vilnius has the largest exhibition and conference centre in the Baltic States Litexpo which is capable of accommodating up to 3 000 visitors. The centre allows for events to be held along with international exhibitions. National Museum / The Royal Palace of the Dukes of Lithuania is not only a place of historical significance and cradle of national identity. Modern representation of this timeless monument not only serves its function as a museum, but is also a spacious and modern conference area suitable for high priority national events as well as low-key gatherings and conferences. If you plan to hold a conference in the Park of Europe, the artistic environment will add to the creative atmosphere. The Classicist-style Archcathedral situated at the foot of the hill has a history stretching back more than 600 years. The most beautiful hall (the Representative Hall) of the castle used to be the sovereign’s chamber and is now used a hall for meetings and conferences. Trakai is surrounded by 5 large lakes, which allow for fantastic views of the castle and the surrounding countryside from the deck of a tourist boat or yacht.

Klaipėda is the only port in the country. The first recorded mention of the city was in 1252, where it was recorded under the name of Memelburg. It is now a port city, where many cruise ships dock. Open Air Museum of the Centre of Europe

In the Open Air Museum of the Centre of Europe, the geographical location of Europe’s centre is signified. The creative and inspiring atmosphere of the open air museum is the perfect context for holding events. The Education and Information centre can be bravely called an architecture-sculpture (the author is Gintaras Karosas). The Education and Information Centre’s conference hall has a capacity of 150 people, and the Europos Parkas Conference and Events Hall can seat up to 45 guests. The halls are equipped with Internet access, multimedia projector, laptop, overhead projector, flipchart, slides projector, video player, screen, CD and DVD player, audio equipment, fax, copy machine, etc. From a uniquely shaped building with a turf roof you can see the scenery of Sculpture Park. Huge windows of an extraordinary shape make the line between nature and interior design disappear. During breaks the participants of the events are asked to come to the restaurant which is located in an old apple-tree garden, while in winter they gather to sit around a cosy fireplace.

Užutrakis Manor Ensemble Užutrakio manor complex was built at the end of the 19th / beginning of the 20th century in the countryside a mere 25 km away from Vilnius and only 7 km from the centre of Trakai town. Užutrakis manor complex was created in 1897-1902 on the order of Count Józef Tyszkiewicz and his wife, Duchess Jadwiga Swiętopułk-Czetwertyńska, by the French landscape architecture and botanist E. F. André (1840–1911) and the famous Warsaw architect J. Huss (1846–1904). At the moment the park complex is undergoing restoration as its park and ponds, pathways, ornamental flowers beds, sculptures (which resembleRoman deities), and the interiors of the mansion are being renovated according to the style of Ludwig the 16th. In the manor complex traditional Užutrakio evenings are organised every year, as well as exhibitions by Lithuanian and foreign artists in the restored and as yet un-restored halls, which have an aura of antiquity. There are chamber music concerts, seminars and conferences organised. The dining room is decorated according to the style of Ludwig the 16th and in the mansion is a restored space for expositions, chamber concerts and seminars. The Hall of Gobelin tapestry is undergoing renovation as well, and is intended to be used for seminars, expositions and chamber concerts. The White hall is also being renovated at the moment and will become an airy space for concerts and conferences with an entrance to a terrace. Žalgirio arena in Kaunas is one of the largest and highest-capacity arenas in the Baltic countries. During a sporting event, the arena can accommodate from 12.300 to 15,688 spectators. The Lithuanian Sea Museum is located in the most northern point of the Curonian Spit – Kopgalis, where the 98 km long Curonian Spit peninsula and the gates of Klaipėda harbour open. During the second half of the 19th century a defensive fortress was built made of a central redoubt, a defensive moat, and ramparts with casemates underneath them for the storage of gunpowder. After the World War II only ruins were left of the fortress. In 1979 the reconstructed and renovated fortress building was reopened as a Lithuanian Sea Museum. This is a multifunctional marine complex in which you can observe marine nature and nautical history expositions, aquarium, sea mammals, an ethnographic fisherman’s farmstead, and also dolphins. Go 5 metres underground and you are in the USSR, a participant of a Survival Camp “1984”. Three hours of the Soviet experience are more akin to real life than a drama event. Professional actors accompanied by a German shepherd dog will make no allowances - no mobile phones or cameras while you are wearing a military coat! Here can you be suspected of being a KGB informant or of possessing illegal medicine or foreign currency. But after all the formal procedures you will be given barley coffee and canned food, both of which were popular during the Soviet era. The duration of the event: 3 hours. Its red bricks reflected in the water invoke the memory of the grandest period in Lithuanian history – the 14-15th centuries. You can sail a yacht, pedal boat, a boat or a kayak around the castle. The sails of yachts and the sound of rowing can be heard on the lake almost all year round. A steam boat “Skaistis” and a sailing-boat “Baltis” travel around the lake. So choose the activity which feels best for your heart and explore charming Lake Galvė! Discover the beauty of the Curonian Lagoon A steamboat cruise will bring rest and relaxation, rowing a boat gets your body some workout, while sailing a yacht means you will compete with the wind! The Curonian Lagoon features perfect conditions for sailing. There are two yacht-clubs in the area: one is located in Smiltynė, the other in Nida. Along with keeping your own yacht there, you can hire one, too. Additionally, you can book an excursion to the Curonian Lagoon or, if desired, a different route. Go boating in a medieval Viking sailboat Book a boating cruise in a unique sailboat of Viking times for your employees. This sailboat is a reproduction of a Lithuanian fishing boat built not only of authentic materials but also using the building technologies of the original period. In addition to enjoying splendid natural surroundings, you can also taste authentic traditional meals on board the ship. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays (departure times 1.30 pm, 3.30 pm, 6 pm and 8 pm) it takes passengers from the Klaipėda cruise ship terminal. The voyage by the route Cruise ship terminal–Sea gate–the Baltic Sea–The Sea Museum–the dolphinarium– Cruise ship terminal takes 1.5 hours. On the cruise you will learn some facts about the water area of the Klaipėda port, the Baltic Sea, the Curonian Lagoon, etc. Travel from Druskininkai to Liškiava by the River Nemunas Travelling down the Nemunas River you will feel as light as a feather, enjoy the easy ride down this blue ribbon of water surrounded by beautiful green woods, mounds, hills

and villages. You can join a trip to Liškiava by steamboat on the Druskininkai–Liškiava–Druskininkai route. Cruises are available from May 1 to October 15, Tuesdays–Sundays. The ship leaves Druskininkai at 2.30 pm; the voyage takes 4 hours: you will reach Liškiava in 40 minutes, then spend 1 hour and 20 minutes on a tour of Liškiava, while another hour is spent on the return trip along the Nemunas River. In Liškiava you will see some of the most beautiful Late Baroque style buildings – the Monastery and the Holy Trinity Church. The upscale resort of Druskininkai is widely renowned because of its mineral water springs, the water of which is used in numerous treatments, health and beauty procedures. The resort also enjoys numerous other tourist advantages: pine trees, two entertainment parks, an adventure park and an abundance of natural and cultural monuments and sites. Enjoy the scenic views of Vilnius from the River Neris The ship “Ryga” takes tourists in Vilnius from the Bridge of King Mindaugas to Valakampiai and then to the White (Šilo) Bridge, before returning. As soon as you start the tour, on the right-hand side you will see the River Vilnia flow into the Neris River. On this confluence stands a white building – The Old Arsenal. In the 16th century it was one of the largest arsenals (weapon storehouse) of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Now the building houses the Museum of Applied Art. If you look upwards, you will see the splendid Vilnius hills with the majestic symbols of Vilnius – Gediminas Castle and the white monument of the Three Crosses. Additionally, further on your right you will see the Palaces of Sluškos and Petras Vileišis. On the other side of the river the most prominent building is the Sports Palace. When the ship turns round by the bridge, take a look upwards – you should see St Peter and St Paul’s Church, the most famous Baroque building in Vilnius. Traditions of Lithuanian gastronomic heritage You might have noticed that Lithuanians love delicious and rich food, right? Why not taste traditional Lithuanian meals yourself! Alongside restaurants featuring Lithuanian food, you will find plenty of restaurants offering Russian, Italian, French, Spanish, Mexican or Japanese cuisine. The oldest traditional Lithuanian beverages are the midus (mead) and the trauktinė (herbal vodka). Lithuania is also renowned for its fine beers. More than 200 sorts of beer are produced in Lithuania. Be it pale or dark lager, unfiltered beer or honey beer – all kinds are worth trying and will definitely make conversation flow more easily. Lithuania is the southernmost and has the highest population of the three Baltic States. It was the first country to break free from the USSR. On 11 March 1990, Lithuania declared the Act of Independence. This day is celebrated as the Day of Restitution of Independence.

The national currency is Lithuanian Litas (LTL). Litas is pegged to Euro. The exchange rate is 1 EUR = 3.4528 LTL. Smaller unit is called centas (cent, ct); 1 LTL = 100 ct. Foreign currencies can be easily exchanged in banks. Automatic cash machines (ATMs) can be found in all parts of the city. Cash withdrawals may be made using your credit card.
