a Mediterranean Eden for campers! Croatia is known for its long tradition as a Mediterranean Eden for camping enthusiasts. Camping tourism in Croatia is very well developed and widespread, and Croatian campsites are particular because of their ubication on attractive and extremely well-preserved natural locations, most often very close to the sea. The Croatian Camping Union which comprises almost the entire Croatian camping offer, is proud to present Croatia’s top quality campsites in this brochure.

5 INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

The campsites are located in particularly enchanting locations, under the natural shade of Mediterranean vegetation and directly by the sea (except for SlapiÊ, which is placed by the river Mreænica, and Turist, located near the Plitvice Lakes National Park). They have a rich catering and shopping offer and various sport and recreation facilities. Sanitary facilities are fully equipped with many conveniences for adults, children and people with special needs.

Mobilhomes Today, one can experience the joy and the liberty of a vacation in the fabulous nature of campsites even without owning a caravan or a tent, still preserving the maximum commodity. Mobile homes are equipped in modern style, including a kitchen, a living room, one or two bathrooms with shower and toilette, a terrace with outdoor furniture, air-condition, satellite TV, Internet, etc. Croatian campsites constantly strive to expand their range of services and some of them already offer mobile homes with spacious and nicely maintained gardens, even with small swimming pools and whirlpools reserved for the exclusive use of mobile home guests. Maximum comfort in natural environment!

In Croatia, any form of camping in free areas outside registered camping sites or parking areas for caravans and motorised campers, is forbidden and is punishable by law.

The selection criteria are clearly defined The campsites must meet the minimal technical requirements for 4* and offer a high quality of sanitary facilities, accommodation units, restaurants, bars and shopping offer, sports, entertainment and animation facilities, which is confirmed by inspectors during their visit to the campsites.

Information

Istrian coast length: 445,1 km, sea temperature during summer season: 23-24°C, average summer temperature: 23°C. Pine woods and evergreen underbrush cover 35% of the peninsula, thus during the summer months campsites have excellent shade. Mild Mediterranean climate: warm, dry summers, mild and pleasant winters.

Beaches

The Istrian sea is the warmest in Europe. The prevailing neat, paved and safe beaches have pine shade in the back and numerous attractions, including areas for children, the elderly and the disabled. As many as 50 Istrian beaches own the Blue Flag symbol, and frequent measurements continually monitor the sea quality. Seclusion enthusiasts shall enjoy the rocky and pebbly coves and beaches of numerous little islets...

Gastronomy

Istria is renowned for its traditional dishes made from fresh seafood, caught the same day in the rich Istrian waters, or from home-made supplies coming from the Istrian inland. Surely among the most famous delicacies is the magnificent aphrodisiac truffle, while home-made Istrian ham and wild asparagus are not far behind...

Istrian wines are recognized worldwide, and especially renowned are the Istrian malvasia and teran - you may taste them when touring one of the six Istrian wine roads, with almost 70 wine cellars. Don’t forget the olive roads, as well!

Aminess Park Mareda Campsite The campsite is located 4 kilometres from the centre of Novigrad in Istria. It is situated within an oak wood reaching to the sea edge and is surrounded by hectares of vineyards. Within the campsite there is the so-called ‘Istrian Village’ in the centre of which a traditional Istrian well can be found. The enjoyment of swimming in the warm Mediterranean Sea here becomes a priceless moment of perfect relaxation.

Aminess Sirena Campsite The campsite is located in the vicinity of the old-town of Novigrad, directly at the sea and in the proximity of the Aminess Maestral Hotel and Aminess Laguna Hotel. Guests can choose between pitches in deep pinewood shade, or in the sunny parts of the campsite. The newly built area of the Aminess Sirena village is particularly attractive; thanks to its 32m² holiday homes and a series of small swimming pools reserved for the exclusive use of the mobile home guests. One of the advantages is also the accessibility of the nearby hotels, allowing campers to use additional facilities, such as the restaurant, the cake shop or the wellness centre.

Novigrad has developed on the islet joined to the mainland only in the 18th century. The old town has maintained its medieval town walls, ancient churches and old palaces which are still inhabited. A must is the visit to the parish church of St. Pelagius from the 13th century (renovated in the 18th century), which preserved even fragments of the early Christian period basilica, as well as the triple-apse cemetery church of St Agate from the 10th century.

ISTRIA | NATURIST RESORT SOLARIS

Today, Tar and Vabriga expanding one towards the other have become one, divided just by the Pula-Trieste road. The ancestors of the Tar and Vabriga have chosen the place for their settlement with great success. It is a fertile plateau (112 m above sea level), gently sloping towards the sun and sea in the South-West, whilst it abruptly arises towards the Mirna estuary in the North. The inhabitants of Tar and Vabriga may often be seen either driving tractors or sailing boats as two are their ploughfields – land and sea. Today they are also engaged in catering and tourism facilities. The particular way of fishing that takes place in the Tar valley has been going on in this way for a thousand years. The second fishermen bay is Santa Marina, the property of Vabriga inhabitants. When the fishing season is over, the fishermen return with great dedication to cultivating their olive groves and vineyards.

Tar and Vabriga The FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) experts have scientifically determined that right below Tar grow olive trees that produce the best olive oil in Europe. The secret lies in mild winters, the olive does not ripe to the full, and the oil has richer composition. The inhabitants of this area are well aware of this benefit and know how to make their olives into the best oil in the world!

Oggi, Torre ed Abrega si espandono una verso l’altra, tanto da diventare un unico centro abitato, diviso appena dalla strada Pola - Trieste. I primi abitanti di Torre e di Abrega vi hanno scelto questi come luoghi per potersi stabilire con gran successo. Si tratta di una zona fertile a 112 msopra il livello del mare, con una leggera pendenza verso la parte soleggiata ed il mare a sud-ovest. A nord si vede la foce del fi ume Quieto. Gli abitanti di Torre e di Abrega possono essere visti sia alla guida di trattori che in barca, perché questi ambienti, la terra ed il mare, sono loro congeniali. Oggi, parecchi vi trovano impiego nell’ambitoturistico. Il modo particolare di pescare caratteristico per la Valle di Torre, conosciuto da tantissimi anni. La seconda importante zona di pesca quella di Santa Marina, proprietŕ degli abitanti di Abrega. In questa baia si coltivano i mitili e vi si possono fare delle escursioni in barca per poi fermarsi nel ristorante qui situato. Al termine della stagione di pesca, I pescatori tornano con grande dedizione allacoltivazione degli ulivi e della vite.

Heutzutage sind Tar und Vabriga, indem sie sich in Richtung zueinander dehnten ,Eine Siedlung die nur von der Verkehrsstraâe Pula-Trieste getrennt wird. Die Vorfahren der Einwohner von Tar und Vabriga haben sich ihnen Wohnort klug ausgesucht. Dies ist eine fruchtbare Hochebene (112 m über dem Meeres-Spiegel), die sich vom Südwesten leicht zur Sonne und Meer neigt und auf der nördlichen Seite steil zur Mündung des Flusses Mirna hinabfallen. Sofern nicht auf dem Traktor, dann findet man die Bewohner von Tar und Vabriga auf ihren Bootens - Sie haben zwei Arten von Acker - an Land und auf dem Meer. Aber heutzutage sind alle, wenigstens ein bisschen, in der Gastwirtschaft und im Tourismus beteiligt. Der spezifische Fischfang in der Tarska Vala hat sich seit einem Jahrtausend nicht geändert. Die zweite Fischerbucht ist Santa Marina, diese gehört den Einwohnern von Vabriga. In dieser Bucht gibt es auch eine Muschelzucht sowie einen Ausflugsort mit Restaurant. Wenn sie nicht beim Fischfang sind, bearbeiten die Fischer mit großer Hingabe ihre Wein- und Olivengärten.

It is said that some of the most beautiful Croatian breathtaking beaches and coves with small pebbles are located on the area of the Kvarner islands, and often these beaches are accessible only by boat, which makes them especially mysterious. On the coastal part comfortably neat beaches prevail, with plateaus and sunbathing spots.

The wealth of the Kvarner kitchen is created by a variety of authentic dishes of the sea belt and those of the continental part. In the littoral region and the islands, you will be offered with Mediterranean tastes: renowned Kvarner scampi (shrimps), tasty lamb fed on the sage fields, “©urlice”…

Nature park Učka situated on the homonymous mountain that dominates Istria and Kvarner, offers one of the most beautiful views of this area of Europe - the one extending from the highest top called Vojak… (4) Cres Island is an attractive junction of nature and architecture, with lake Vrana whose level exceeds the surrounding sea level, the griffon vultures reserve but also enchanting towns as Lubenice (5) and Osor.

Situated in the hinterland of Rijeka and the Kvarner’s litoral, on a karts hill, with so many geographical, geological, herbal, climatic and pedological phenomena, the Risnjak national park is a real paradise, and a visit to it will really enrich one’s body and soul… (6) Lošinj Island (7) had once been an important maritime centre, and today it is an ecologic destination with a salutary climate and a natural habitat of tame maritime mammals - the dolphins.

One of the most important monuments of the Croatian language that testifies of the arrival of Croats on the Kvarner during the seventh century. The Baška Stone Tablet (8) dates back to the year 1100. It has been found and it is guarded on Krk island, an island with incredibly beautiful beaches and a marvellous nature…

Martinšćica is a quite new and very nice area situated on the most accessible part of the coastline of the entire island, along the spacious gulf open towards the SouthWest, and well protected from the bora. The historical site comprises St. Martin’s church with the Franciscan Monastery dating back to the 16th century and the family Sforza castle from the 17th century. By the beaches, northern from the area, in this untouched nature and picturesque tourist location there are numerous possibilities for a pleasant and active stay and vacation.

The fact it is situated in a dolphins’ reserve describes perfectly the ecological orientation of this campsite. The pitches are situated in a terraced terrain leaning gently towards the sea, towards the equipped beach and the pebble bay, and are mostly situated into the pine-wood shadow. Part of the beach is reserved for naturists, and a jetty with 120 moorings is integral part of the campsite.

Čikat is the largest campsite on the island of Lošinj and is located in the Čikat Bay, which is certainly one of the most beautiful bays on the island. Surrounded by a thick pine forest, is focused on families with small children providing an ideal opportunity to have fun at the Pepé family fun park and also to enjoy sports and entertainment facilities within and around the camp, which will make every family holiday complete.

The last great group of dolphins in the northern Adriatic Sea inhabit the sea of Lošinj. Lošinj has 2,600 sunny hours per year and over 250 kilometres of walking trails. Apoxyomenus, the antique bronze statue of an athlete, was found in the sea of Lošinj and represents the only large bronze found to date on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea. 1100 plant types were identified there, 939 of which belong to the autochthonous flora. 230 of these plants fall under medical herbs.

Klimno is a small, quiet and romantic place that features a XIV century church of S. Clement, after which the town was named. The small church’s altarpiece, depicting the lives of the saints, is a protected cultural monument. From the mid-nineteenth century, Klimno has also developed as a shipbuilding centre and even today there are three small shipyards in Klimno - continuing the shipbuilding tradition of the town. The campsite Zablaće is situated in Baška valley, along the western part of the 1.800 metre long pebble beach known as “Vela plaža” (The Big beach), the longest beach on the Island of Krk. Surrounded by two hills, the campsite is offering a view of the neighbouring islands and the mainland in the distance. The part of the campsite that hosts organised pitches is on the beach itself, whilst the non-parceled camping is about 100 meters from the sea. The campsite fees include the use of a swimming pool and the fitness of the Wellness centre Baška, located about 100 meters from the campsite.

Situated in a romantic bay, only one kilometre far from Baška, it can host about 1000 persons. On characteristic terraced pitches, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, there are comfortable pitches and mobile homes. Leaning towards the sea, the campsite ends in a beautiful pebbly beach.

Lopar The town of Lopar is located in the most northerly part of the island and is surrounded by twenty-two sandy beaches. This is the reason why Lopar is known as a paradise of sandy beaches, since it is the only place in the Adriatic with so many sandy beaches nearby. The town is also known as the birthplace of St. Marinus, a stonecutter who founded the world’s oldest republic - the Republic of San Marino in Italy. In his honour, the hotel settlement and the campsite carry the name of San Marino.

Šibenik

Jezera is the smallest village on the island of Murter, situated in the protected harbour on the south-eastern part of the island. It is a fishing village and one of the strongest Central Dalmatian fishing centres. Here it is possible to enjoy the sea fruits purchased directly from the fishermen on their return from the sea. The village was named after the small lakes which arise in the adjacent valleys after spring and summer rains, disappearing with the arrival of first summer days. There is also a modern marina with a petrol station, which is the starting point for excursions to the national park of Kornati, one of the most beautiful Croatian islands. The village also hosts the international fishermen competition Big Game Fishing at the end of September.

Šibenik lies in the picturesque Dalmatian bay around the mouth of the river Krka, one of the most beautiful Karst rivers. The St. Jacob's cathedral, its most eminent building, is fully made of stone, without the usage of any other material and it is included in the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage. Besides being popular as a touristic destination, Šibenik is also well known as the children's city, thanks to the International Children's festival taking place for the last fifty years.

Plitvice Lakes Plitvice are considered to be one of the most beautiful European natural resources. The turquoise colour of these 16 lakes comes from the deposits of calcium carbonate, while thick woods and the intact nature show elements of virgin forests. The park is the habitat of various kinds of birds and small game, whilst in the crystal clear water of these lakes you will see trouts. Miles long visitor paths are connected with wooden bridges, and the visitors can also use small tourist trains. There is also an electrical boat connecting the upper and the lower lakes.
