A concept closely tied to the ideas of new urbanism is that developments should be designed to support transit through considerations such as density, mix of uses, walkability, and location in relation to transit services. This being said, one can come before the transit infrastructure is in place, transit ready development (TRD), and one can come after, transit oriented development (TOD). Projects from the UTCAD and Vanderbilt University Owen School of management are showcased as design recommendations for the site along Charlotte Ave and the new 28th Ave connector bridge. Following the student work, professional projects in development are featured, as they also focus on TRD principles.
